The most versatile and legendary lens ever made. The Canon EF 135mm f2. No 135mm modern lens can match its glory. Plena? Pleasa. This lens does everything from portraits, environmental video portraits, landscape, wildlife photgraphy, astrophotography. It has that vintage character but is also razor sharp wide open. Best lens ever. I'm adapting it to Nikon ZF with 2 adapters, Megadap ETZ21 Pro and 7 Artisans EF SE. It works sometimes lol. Also adapted it to Sony A7S III for the wildlife shots and used in manual focus.

The 135 F2 is legendary. It is amazing that a lens this good was introduced 28 years ago and still holds up. Sure, there are some newer versions that are a little sharper, but this lens is inspiring, beautiful, and still competes today. Great job!

I kept two Canon lenses when I switched to Sony over a year ago. The 100mm f2.8L Macro and this lens, the 135L. Every time I use this 135mm I am blown away by it and have not a clue why anyone would actually "need" to upgrade it to the RF 135L f1.8. It so small and compact for what it is its just unbelievable. Happy you finally got this lens Sir. Hope you hang on to it for awhile.

The Fringer EF to Z is pretty good. But the EF lenses really perform well on EOS R bodies, better than native EF. Bought a new R6 for the price of a used one, as they were dumping the old model - pretty good for what I paid for it and with IBIS.

I still have a 5D Mark II, and it uses old school Compact Flash, not CFast, so there are tons of cheap readers out there. For what it's worth, I was able to pick up a cheap SD adapter that lets me put a regular SD cards directly into the camera.

This. I think only Sony cameras used CFast (could be wrong on that). The Canon's used Compact Flash + SD if dual slot
@AskJoe
@AskJoe 6 дней назад
@@definedphotography The 5D mk II came out in 2008, before CFast came out. I still have one, and like I said, it's easy to adapt an SD to fit into a CompactFlash slot. The funny thing is I rarely use the adapter because my Compact Flash cards are large enough. Also, the mk II only has one slot.

I saw the videos about the RF 135mm F1.8. I can afford to buy it, but I will buy the EF 135mm F2. It's plenty sharp enough, has mich better color saturation, better microcontrast and tonality. All these brands are making these super sharp over corrected lenses that have been sterilised and have more lens elements than a zoom. I think the best indication is Vanessa Joy still posting pictures using her old 135mm F2, despite posting a video as a Canon embassador about being excited about the new lens. Anyone with a good eye will immediately see the difference between a good lens and a lens that is only good at being sharp.

I switched to Fuji from Canon around when the EOS R came out, and these days I keep wondering if I should switch back. Canon's colour science is the best out there (yes, fuji film sims are nice but they're not the same). The menu system just makes sense (Sorry Fuji, your menus suck, I love you but come on hire a non-programmer to do something more intuitive) Canon's AF has always been some of the best in the business (Sorry Sony, I still love you). The new RF glass is really only trumped by Zeiss Otus in terms of performance. But the back catalog of EF glass has lenses like this, the 85 f/1.2, the 200 f/2.8, 50 f/1.0 etc that are just something magic. I love my fuji. So does my back and shoulders. It's a different shooting experience. But Canon will always have a place in my heart. And one day I might switch back, even if I still have to deal with using 2 different cards for redundant shooting (Seriously Canon F-you, pick one standard and stick with it. Or copy Sony already and make the dual purpose slots so people can mix and match as they please).

Canon 5Dii I tested it an is such a beauty. Get over it with the CF card. It's not a big deal. It's worth the magic. My R5C can't replicate the same vintage touch of 5Dii. Here's my thought: You'll probably never see a 5Dii release again. But R5's we'll see plenty. I got my backup copy. I know is a pain the manual focus, but imagine the DJI sistem that Potato Jet used in his R5c review. Manual focus wouldn't be a issue anymore. In fact I'm going to do a video with it and ef135, zeiss 140mm 1.9 project lens, ef35mm1.4 and soviet lens helios 58mm for fun comparison .

Eos 5D Mkii takes Compactflash. When I was buying Camera back in the Days I had to choose. Canon had just released the EOS 5D MkIII and EOS 6 D. The MKIII had the best autofocus, and a tad better picture. The MKII was the last EOS 5D with interchangable focusing Screen. Good for manual focusing. EOS 6D had for the time low light noise, cheaper build quality and good center focus. The 5 D Mkii was on sale and I bought it. The autofocus was bad compared to my EOD 7D, but the picture quality was very good. It had very good build quality and newer broke. It looked brand new when I sold It to a man who was heading to the Southpole and wanted a solid camera.

I have the Canon FD135mm T3.5 and it's a lovely lens. Kasey the bee whisperer.... I actually prefer a less tight shot with birds than most bird photographers shoot. Some of the close shots are just way too tight for my eye. That red winged shot was really nice. It showed the bird in the setting. I like that. Kasey using a video to talk himself into an new camera from Canon! LOL! Have a great day!
@robertwlittlejohn
@robertwlittlejohn 6 дней назад
Camera Mystique is one of the more interesting camera youtubes out there....he does seem to bash a few concepts but he always expands on it...he seperates 3d pop from "dimensionality"...he doesn't trash vintage lenses....he identifies their characteristics and when they suit different circumstances...its photo centric but applies to video just as much....understanding micro-contrast and field curvature are difficult subjects that many experienced photographers don't get right....his videos are worth the time to listen to, even when you don't get it first time around......watching his ziess 28mm f2 vs milvus 25mm f1.4 vs zeiss 25mm f2 is a very very interesting exploration (i own the first 2 lenses )
@charliejg
@charliejg 6 дней назад
@@robertwlittlejohn I didn't mean to say he trashed the lenses, only the notion that low element count gives that dimensionality/pop. I believe he said what happens is that the old lenses have much more vignette effect which causes the center to appear far brighter. But, I probably shouldn't have used the word trashed either.

WOW Fantastic lens, 135mm is another focal length that I have a few of, not this EF f2 lens though such a clean fast killer sharp lens. That 5D II is actually CF (Compact Flash) , I have seen it listed before in different places as taking C Fast cards, I think usually because people familiar with C fast cards in newer cameras see CF and assume that it is C fast, The 5D II is a pretty nice Camera video frame rates are a bit limited though at 30fps 1080. I mean it was still used for lots of TV shows and other media so I am sure it is usable. I have been shooting an a7 for a while now mostly stills with adapted vintage glass. Wild life is pretty amazing all over the city this time of year, I love the footage you're getting, that Black capped night heron is gorgeous the red winger black bird shot was an amazing catch, I totally know exactly what you mean by how difficult it is the catch these action shots when you are zoomed in when they are perched somewhere to get close then they move, happens to me shooting 100-400. I do also enjoy quite a few of the same areas you post in your videos, I was down Tommy Thompson the other day not sure if that's one you hit in your travels saw some great barn swallows young still nesting moms flying around getting food for them, I like it down there on the super hot days it's cool with the lake breeze.

Even with wildlife you can get some very good deals on MF only lenses which are essentially the same optics as the modern Af-s lenses, and they were made to focus manually for wildlife, so no weird fly by wire nonsense.

It is not the sharpest lens but it definitely has character and you can find it much cheaper than the standard EF 70-200 zooms. It doesn’t have IS, but it can definitely be used for wildlife with ibis cameras like the R7 or the R6 (or a Sony camera I suppose).

i really like the Nikon 180mm 2.8 and think you will too, Canon 200mm 2.8 is probably good as well.

The EF 135/2 lens is actually the primary reason I switched from Fujifilm to Nikon. Picked up a used one on Mercari in mint condition for ¥60,000 and a Fringer adapter. The Fujifilm 90/2 wasn’t cutting it. The Plena wasn’t out at the time.

What wasn't cutting it about the 90mm T2?
@PaulQ-gw6be

@@cameraconspiracies It’s hard to nail down, exactly. Like the source of the emptiness in a photographers soul that leads to eternal GAS. The focus speed of it is fine. The rendering… decent, but only that. It softens the background behind full-body subjects nicely, without obliterating the context and setting. Sharpness was very much enough for me, even wide open. But I couldn’t open it wider when I wanted to lessen background detractions further. Like when there is sunlit foliage in the background because some jerk trees just grow wherever they feel like. This is, after all, a lens I use mostly outdoors. I found I would usually grab the 56/1.2 and the 90 sat at home or in my bag. The rendering and field curvature of the EF 135 is fantastic. Definitely more “pop” to the images than the Fujinon. Despite also picking up the Plena, I kept the EF 135 because they are totally different. The EF falls apart with any light hitting the front element. The Plena does not. The EF has a nice swirl and curvature to the bokeh, while the Plena is like nuked butter. The EF is only marginally bigger and heavier than the Fujinon 90, while the Plena is a chonky beast with pre-diabetes. The EF is plenty sharp enough for 24 megapixels, while the Plena is probably sharp enough for anything you can put behind it. The EF is more prone to CA while the Plena takes effort to create or notice CA with. I don’t care about vignetting. Both are incredibly easy to nail focus with. Something about the rate of focus falloff? I’m not a lens designer or physicist. I just judge their work like a thin person judging the life choices of the person in front of me at the grocery store. Now, if Fujifilm made a 90/1.4… in the same vein as the wonderful 35/1.4... And if they could come out with a camera body that can match the Zf… Regardless, someone in Tokyo has a minty, repatriated 90/2 and I hope they’re more talented and less judgmental than me.

May I make a request? Nikkor AF 180mm t2.8 ED IF (or the AIS manual focus version). I’ve had my eye on that lens adapted to my GH6 for wildlife and Sony a7siii for all around short tele.

Wonderful lens. I have three of the D versions and one plain AF version. I use them on Nikon. Absolute must have, life and death level do or die. Just get one. Then again, it might be lame on GH6 or other cameras. Never tried it on anything but Nikon. Usually around $300 on eBay. The AF and AF D versions are very little more money than the AIS lens, and if you go AIS, make sure to get the ED version, which is MUCH better than the older non-ED version.

@@danncorbit3623 thanks for your recommendation, you’ve verified what I keep hearing about the lens. I use a few vintage AIS Nikkor lenses on my gh6 and they’re my favorites to use, over my native autofocusing lenses. I think it might be a good fit, especially with a speedbooster. Maybe even more-so on the a7siii. My 400mm f3.5 AIS is especially impressive adapted to the gh6.

I’d love a Canon EF 135, but will make do with the Fuji 90. Have you ever tried a tilt-shift lens? Best Canon lens I ever had was the 24mm TS, oodles of micro contrast. Not a fast lens but great rendering. Thanks for all your hard work.
