Nintendo has had a bit of a rough history with localizing certain RPGs. Even today, people ask for many games in the very popular Fire Emblem series to be translated to other languages. But one stands above all of them as the most requested. When the word "localization" is spoken, you know that this game enters everyone's thoughts. Spoiler warning here folks,

The whole Pokey/Porky thing can also be chalked down to the series always having something of an issue with inconsistent romanizations. In Earthbound Beginnings the antagonist is called Giegue yet in Earthbound it's Giygas. And the official name used on the Japanese title screen is actually Gyiyg. When romanizing something from a different alphabet into Latin there's always room for interpretation, and this is no exception. I personally feel like Porky is the better name, since he does somewhat resemble a pig, and he definitely IS the definition of a swine. And the fan translation changing Yokuba to Fassad was a pretty genius move, since it is both a pun and means "corruption" in Arabic, this is very close to what Nintendo would have probably done if the game had received an official translation. Still hoping, btw.

Technically Roy's game Binding Blade is still in Japan. Blazing Sword aka Fire Emblem was released as the first FE title localized for Western Audiences which features Roy as a child

5:35 no that is wrong. Fire Emblem The Binding Blade, aka Fire Emblem 6 has not been localized. So that means that Roy's origin game has also not left Japan. Fire Emblem 7, which is the first Fire Emblem released outside of Japan, is about Eliwood, Roy's father. It's also a prequel.

The main reason this game hasn't come westward is definitely the legal battle they'd have to fight with Warner bros, the Michael Jackson estate, etc. Etc. Same reason as jojos and why earthbound always takes forever to port.

Binding Blade is still Japan exclusive, so Lucas and Roy are the only playable characters in Smash to have never had their debut games released outside of Japan.

Roy's entry has NOT been released in English to this day. Fire Emblem Binding Blade is still japan exclusive. But Roy does make cameos on FE Awakening, Echoes and Blazing Blade.

He's the most recurring character appearing in each town Ness visits ahead of him and you *actually see* him, whereas in Mother 3 you only see representations of Porky until the final confrontation.

I still remember the first release date of December when Mother 4/Oddity was announced. Ever since the Oddity change, we have received pretty much no updates or even signs of it will ever come out. I hope this new Mother 4 actually releases.

Wait. PK Love? I don't know that. I only know PK Rockin and PK Flash from Lucas (in Mother 3) Edit: The translation I played with named the PK Love "PK Rockin" (just like Ness) Those guys lied to me Edit 2: In the first informations of the game: I answered "What is your favorite thing?" with "Rock". Does that make the name of the PSI change?

The fact that Nintendo hasnt ever attemped to purge the fab translation or lawsuit the creator says something to me: Maybe they want THAT to be the official translation because they don't want to do it themselves due to the controversies the game could cause, and they dont want to publicly localize it because since they are a big company and someone who has never seen the game before in the modern day could easily take it the wrong way and put Nintendo in a bad light. So, I feel that Nintendo really DOES want to make it an official localization, they are just too afraid of what would happen, which makes sense given how the original Earthbound was poorly received in the US...

This is the only game in the Mother series I liked, no, loved. The other 2 were good ideas but executed pretty badly, a good game isn't just quirky. Mother 3 is such a beautiful game and I will never understand why people still desperately want Nintendo to make a sanitized translation. Just fucking buy a cart from Etsy or just play the rom, why the hell do you people want to give Nintendo money so badly when they clearly don't want it.

Man I tried playing mother 3 a couple of years back but it was on my phone I got pretty far into it but I can't play games on phone for that long but I loved everything especially the beginning with all the changing characters I think I last left off Spoilers!!! When I think Klyde got his memory back, but on Switch or a future console I would absolutely love to go back and beat it on a proper console.

Yeah it's rough playing the game unofficially, portably & when the English patch first came out. The game was made with a gamepad in mind, not so much a touchscreen. I prefer playing on one anyways so I gave up on a decent portable option unless I were to buy a GBA and flashcart. I ended up playing it emulated on Windows hooked up to the couch TV and a Dual Shock 2. No regrets.

Hahaha the new Mother 4 developers are in for a rude awakening. Nintendo doesn't just go after a few choice games. They took down damn near every game they could on itch and other indie gaming sites at one point. DNAs were given out like it was Christmas.
