Izumi means fountain in Japanese. Zuko and mai named their kid after the fountain they fell into as kids. This can also be taken as a big pointer in the direction of mai and zuko being together

Then Zuko might named her daughter İzumi to remind him of his first love. But I kinda want the mother to be Mai.

Its so heavily implied that Mai is the mother 😭 Izumi looks like Mai, and Mai LOOKS like Future Fire Lady. The writers kept implying that they got back together.
It was Gene Yang who said they will be back together. But he no longer is in charge of the comics. Also Izumi can mean water, that can relate to a certain waterbender who also saved his life.

It’s Mai. The Fire Nation would have never accepted Zuko as their leader so easy if he had married Katara. Zuko had a linage of royalty, while Katara on the other hand was a foreign Water Tribe peasant. Mai was FN, daughter of a Governor, and born noble. If Zuko had got with Katara he would have never gotten the support he needed and the Fire Nation could’ve possibly collapse.
Believable it’s ironic though if the downfall of the southern water tribe never happened Katara, as the chief’s daughter, would actually be considered royalty like Yue was but like you I like to say it’s Mai.

Actually 3 years after the comics Mai and Zuko got back together! I heard it on an interview with the shows creator saying “ I wish I could turn the comics into a in between show, but we were gonna do a tiny mini clip showing Old Zuko and Mai.”
I cringe every time he says “My” instead of Mai, pronounced “May”... he might not even be a real fan of the show and is just reading off a script handed to him...

If you look at Mai and Mai's mother Michi, Izumi did reassemble both Mai and Michi. So Izumi's mother is probably Mai. Both of them have a pointy chin.

In the comics, it says Zuko and Mai break up. Though they always break up and get back together, it doesn’t say that they do get back together and since tsuki appears to be by zukos side an alarming amount of times (by protecting him) sooo it makes me wonder 👁👄👁 What if tsuki and sokka don’t end up together, zuko ends up with tsukki and sokka ends up with......toph? Or boomerang ☺️
Just think. Zuko's daughter is named Izumi I - from Iroh Zu - from ZUko Mi - from MaI No problem 😉 And if you don't know, after they broke up (in comics series), they were together again. I know that because the author of comics said that.
We never saw or heard anything about Sokka when Suki was Zukos bodyguard, so it's probably right that they may have not ended up together after all. But at the same time, the bond between Sokka and Suki was so strong that it'll be difficult to ascertain for sure that they did not end up together after all or it could just be a new character that that we don't even know at all that may have emerged and ended up having a relationship with Zuko. Lots of possibilities in story.
Why does no one ever think zuko's half sister could have had the kid??? Like instead of trying to analyze zuko and every girl he's ever interacted with, why not consider his half sister. She's technically of royal blood, because ursa (even if she married in) and she has an avatar's blood in her, that would surely allowed her to rule. Like I don't feel like zuko would have had time for a whole relationship with kids, so to me it makes sense for his half sister to have the aire to the throne
I know I’m going to upset people, but I legitimately don’t get the Zuko X Katara ships. Like I get that people will ship anyone together, but the fact that it’s such a big, vocal ship baffles me. They loathed each other up until they South Raiders episode which was a few episodes before the finale, and only had one positive interaction before Southern Raiders. Like why did people think they’d get together in the last few episodes verses the relationship that was obviously set up from the beginning. Not to mention, Zuko kind of encouraged her toxic behavior in Southern Raiders.
The fans basically ride the enemies turned to lovers arc. They hate each other, they are stuck together and open up a little bit, it all goes to hell and katara is distrustful of him. He goes out of his way to help her get revenge on her mothers killer while reminding her about her humane side and accepting her decision to let him go. There is serious chemistry there. There's nothing with Aang. The kid learns nothing. He throws a tantrum when he loses and blames everyone, and he forces his love onto katara who asks for time. Even at the end, she's a kid and doesn't know much better and buckles at the pressure placed on her by aang. It doesnt get any better in the book. Their loves so dysfunctional, it reflects on their kids feeling of neglect and burden in legend of Korra. Those are two very crucial reasons behind people shipping Katara and Zuko. Basically. Zuko grew up from his fathers shadows and his arc developed more than anyone else's as he got more alone time with katara. Don't get me wrong I'm perfectly content with zuko x mai... but I would even ship the monkey with aang until the kid learns to lose and grow up. Which again. He doesn't. He's impulsive, and stubborn till the end. Tl:dr. They had too much chemistry in those few episodes then the entirety of the 4 seasons with aang. Aang literally had more chemistry with zuko then with katara (again within limited encounters on common ground)
I should of known that when they said “Zuko’s children” that it was BS,as far as I know they never confirmed whether Zuko had more kids or just had Izumi.
Izumi looks like Mai and she acts the same way. Plus the comic book writer said in the 2017 ECC that he made it so that a couple temporarily broke up but got back together after 3 years, it's pretty obvious that it's Mai
something to note is that in the atla comics from AFTER the events of the show, Mai is clearly shown to have a new boyfriend. However, it's not out of the picture to think she'd get back with zuko
Mai’s entire thing is that her and her family are picture perfect fire nation nobility, and it bores her to tears. She’s a well bred and groomed lady of the court, and until her little brother (with a big age gap) was born she was probably being trained to carry her family’s name. In other words she’s perfect, and someone a banished Prince who violently over threw his father and sister, and ended Fire Nation dominance over the world was 100% going to need to get the Fire Nation on his side and not just under his control. Also Izumi just straight up embodies Mai having to address the public professionally, excellent posture calm tone. I just really wanna know what she like in a casual setting.

I cant help but think that the guy talking in the background is saying Mae's name wrong kind of like the 2010 last airbender film her name is pronounced mae this guy is saying it wrong saying a characters name like that is a bad preference to the names that were said wrong in the live action film
