It's about time I break down my favorite character from one of my favorite shows...I've done so many other Avatar character videos but this one was the most fun to make. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!
My favourite lines of Zuko *Thats rough buddy* and *Think about our place in the universe* or *I once hired someone like her to kill the Avatars...* *Didnt work*
“Why am I so bad at being good? - Zuko This line summarizes his emotional journey before he became Fire Lord. The struggle Zuko had to endure and his steady growth through it all makes him one of the best characters of all time!
To be fair, the Wester Air Temple was the closest one to the fire nation, and fire was the last element Aang needed to learn. So it's not all that out of the question
Well Zukos journey was the exact definition of an oddysey, where the target location wasn't the central thing, but rather the journey and the things learned along the way
I would have *loved* to see his and Sokka's sword (+boomerang) fight on screen! With how the animators did so many other scenes of sword fights throughout the series it definitely would have been pretty awesome.
Zuko is definitely one of my favorite characters in ATLA. Started out as an antihero in Book 1 & 2 and then redeemed himself in Book 2. Zuko Alone is one of my favorite episodes because of character development on Zuko.
Fun fact. The pregnant woman and her husband that Zuko refuses to take the food from, later on is seen inside of Ba Sing Se holding her baby, and Iroh caresses the baby and tell the parents how handsome their baby is.
I blame ozai for azula, Jesus Christ imagine if azula also had the same love from her mother like zuko... zuko and azula would be the greatest duo of all time
Also her memories and love for her children were too powerful of her. She was suffering, and that's why Ursa sought out the spirit to remove her memories and change her face.
Keep in mind, all of the sudden, the person who's family is personally responsible for what's going on in Lee's village was revealed to him. In a sense, they felt betrayed by Zuko. Yes he did save them, but he wouldn't have needed to if the fire nation never started a war.
all thought sad it shows a lot of perspective into the war and how it made people think. All though zuko hadn't done much wrong he was still being blamed and treated like shit.
well its hard to attract air nomad women when there are literaly 0 ALIVE though luckly he compensated by having some extra earth bending ladies fall for him
Zuko only became powerful when he learned firebending from other sources. His uncle taught him lightning redirection, the dragons taught him true firebending, aang taught him to be more circular for defense and katara taught him to be more precise. Only when straying away from tradition did zuko become a more powerful bender
Am I the only one who's noticed that there's a pretty big change in not just Zukos personality, but also his voices tone? He sounds a lot more angry and rough in the beginning of the series, but his voice get's softer and softer throughout the series, it gets more humble.
Well he got to know his enemy and reflected on what he did and became a better person because of it he also had a better relationship with iroh, him and mai got back together if he was the same type of person then he was at the beginning of the series none of that would have happened
Ozai didn't only scorn Zuko because he wasn't gifted. He found out that Urza had written that she wished her former lover was the father of her child. From then, Ozai, petty king, said that he would not treat Zuko as his own... I think she had to beg for Zuko's life. It's crazy to think, but Zuko was raised in a single parent home even though his sister wasn't .
@@thedelordhimselfgokublack in the comics she wanted to see if Ozai was intercepting her messages (getting back at him was still a reason lol) but regardless, Zuko is Ozai's son
I’ve always loved Zuko even when he hadn’t had his redemption arc yet. He was a very well written character and is definitely one of my favorites in the series.
not to mention the dragons, and his genetics too. Son of the fire lord, the most powerful firebender, and on the other side of his family his grandfather being the avatar.
@@yaphetgebreyesus3774 The Gaang was powerful when they were kids, with aang defeating ozai when he was 12/13. Toph was also around 12 when she discovered metal bending. Zuko defeated admiral Zaou when he was around 15 and not even done with his training. Katara did not even have any formal training when she was kicking as* at 14. Altogether, in their prime an airbender not even done with his training, a lava bender that toph could dismantle, and the combustion bender being no new sight to them made it pretty easy. Also zuko could just zap the water bender like Mako did. The Red Lotus stands no chance
We all have that "friend" who have seen just the first episode of ATLA and you have to convince him that Zuko is the best character of the entire franchise
man ... this is the worst childhood anyone could ever have I mean loosing your mother and getting a horrible scar burn from your own dad and having a dad that dispises u
Well yes but actually no;from what i remember in thw comics, ursa convinced him not to do that for the exchange of a colourless poison that would kill his(ozai) father without suspicion and someow he became the firelord.(maybe because iroh wasn't home at that moment)
@@hudakhalid6910 there was a time where things we're "ok" in Zuko's family. He and Azula reminisce that when they went to Ember Island, their father was more normal
I don’t know if someone already commented this but i can’t believe how spoiled zhao was when Zuko tried saving him and called him weak we should appreciate he didn’t die
@@taliahernandez3294 it’s Mai talking to Zuko in season 2 when they are on the boat heading to the fire nation after Azula attacked Aang (Avatar the Last Airbender)
Zuko did not just speak out of turn during that war council meeting. He stood up for the inexperienced soldiers who were going to be used as bait on the front lines. He stood up for his own people and this is one of his most defining characteristics. That Zuko is kind and caring, no matter how much Ozai tried to squash that goodness out of him
@@be5608Vs. Thousands of lives on both sides of the war. I don't want to say it was worth it, but the scar and the banishing was ozais decision. Zuko was ready to fight the admiral who proposed the idea, not his own father
Legit it's perfect pacing, and me being a member of the rainbow pack his voice is also super appealing, add that on top of a love of learning and this channel is perfect
Zuko is my Favorite character from the show, 1st he was a villain, 2nd he was anti-hero, 3rd back as a villain, & 4th he's know as a hero. He's story arc & his character development are tragic, pain, pride, depress, etc.
Zuko's character development is out of this world! Seems really realistic and interesting to follow. He started from the bottom to the top only to realize that there's another summit to climb, and another valley to cross. This show is a masterpiece!
It’s funny to think that Zuko’s dad ruined who Zuko was but also saved who Zuko was by banishing him with Uncle Iroh. You really couldn’t have gotten banished with a better, wiser, more kind, gentle, and sweet man than Iroh.
he's already kindhearted as a child. at that point, he would start a redemption arc then regress back to making horrible choices. tbh, his actions may be fucked up but he's just trying to cater to his emotional need (affection from his father). the whole series is his redemption arc, not just the moment he didn't steal food from the couple. he had an emotional turmoil that fucked him up which uncle iroh also recognized which is why he didn't give up on zuko. he let zuko run after the avatar because zuko needed aang to go back "home".
What I learned from Zuko 1. Never ever give up on trying 2. don't get distracted by your goal 3. Keep finding life purpose 4. Obey your parents 5. Don't disrespect them 6. learn from life lessons 7. find loop holes to problems 8. If you find your way then no matter what you did in the past you'll continue doing good in the present 9.Try to correct past mistakes if possible 10. never too late to change 11. Try to help people 12. never get up without a fight 13. Stratergice everything
You know, when Ozai saved Zuko, I actually believed that he had a small shred of kindness. But then I learned the real reason why and reality came back to me. Still, I was actually fooled.
The scene with zuko trying to capture the bison and uncle iroh putting some sense into him is my favorite because those are honestly real conversations u can have with a parent “you need to start asking the big question, who are you and what do you want” that hits home because a frustrated parent will say that to you if you constantly keep making mistakes
From Clean Shaven, to Bald pony tail, to cut pony tail stump, to Buzz Cut, To messy, to “Hello Zuko Here”, to Really long, To 5 trillion miles long. I think this is the most character development lol
“I used to think this scar marked me, the mark of the banished prince, cursed to chase the Avatar forever. But lately, I’ve realized I’m free to determine my own destiny, even if I’ll never be free of my mark.” - Zuko
This show is so perfect man. I loved the character development for Zuko so much! See when you have a bad amd abusive father you either allow yourself to become him or worse to your kids, or you become everything you wanted/needed as a child growing up to your kids. We got to experience him becoming his father while zuko idolized him and did everything he could to make him proud but thanks to the guidance of everyone' (favorite) uncle Zuko became a better person, learned to coexist or overcome his demons, and successfully became everything that his father wasnt as a man. So in the end of an amazing journey, Zuko become everything he wanted but most importantly became a great, loving, and kind Father. Truly this show was a masterpiece. It's so sad that I don't see any possibility of another sequel or prequel achieving the level of rewatch ability, connection, of love for the characters and show in general.
That scene of Ozai burning Zuko's face and the way Zuko screams always breaks my heart. The storm is definitely one of my favourite episodes but I can't help but cry when you think how terrible of a father Ozai was. Zuko is definitely the best character written in fictional history with the best redemption arc. No other character could probably come close. Excellent video. Looking forward to Life of Katara soon 🌊
Oh yeah but when you think about it; Ozai's terrible parenting did teach Zuko how to be a better father for his daughter. I mean, I feel like Zuko definitely deserved better and in a way he did indeed earn a better father figure; Uncle Iroh. Iroh was always there for Zuko even when he thought that Iroh was being annoying and lazy. It was indeed heartwarming when they reunited and Iroh hugged Zuko with Zuko not able to understand and said that he thought that Iroh was gonna be mad with him. Iroh just replied by basically saying that he was so worried for Zuko's mental compass and that he had found his way back to Iroh. That made me feel like that Iroh should've been Zuko's father, not Ozai.
Eren Yeager though. Although Eren is different, Eren's story is about becoming humanity's villain, but still one of the best written character arcs in fiction.
Fun fact I recently found out: In the Dutch translation/dub off Avatar, Zuko is voiced by the same voice actor who also does voice of Malfoy in the Dutch Dub off Harry Potter, Sander van der Poel. and I thought he does a good job.
Well it does make sense cause he gave them what he never got from his father his love. By taking the experiences from his childhood and teen years he did the opposite of what his father and sister did to him
Myeong On the other hand you had Toph who decided to give her daughters too much space and not be around as much. She created a rift between her family for years
The creators did say that zuko and mei end up together in the end. Izumi (their child’s name) meaning fountain is a call back to how they had that moment in the fountain as kids
Seems like the whole ATLA actually focused on Aang and Zuko's life as parallel, there were many scenes where both Zuko and Aang's stories mirrored each other, for example : Bitter Work. And there were also scenes where Aang and Zuko's feelings/emotions were shown mirrored each other, for ex : the ending of The Blue Spirit. And the most blatant comparison is when Aang and Zuko danced with the dragons in Firebending Masters, the frames shown each of them dance with a dragon behind them, Aang with the blue one and Zuko with the red one. Not to mention the conclusion of the story, where both the Avatar and the Firelord stood side by side before the nations. I forgot to add that one episode (i think it was The Storm) where the scenes kept switching between Aang and Zuko's background stories. Plus, the fact that both Aang and Zuko seemed to be "special", with Aang being the Avatar and Zuko the great-grandson of both the previous Avatar and the Firelord who started the war.
@@sonderly7820 True. Since the big story here is war, and wars always have two sides. And the big message is to make peace, not to defeat. Aang represents the people under oppression and Zuko represents the oppressor. The war could not end if the Fire Nation--Zuko's side--did not want peace. Thus making Aang and Zuko's reconciliation as the "real" end of war and the beginning of peace. The battle between Ozai and Aang was just a climax scene to show how the good guy kicked the bad guy's ass.
As an abuse survivor I relate strongly to Zuko. His rather burned him across the face, nearly blinding him. Mine raped me multiples times and gaslit me for years with his wife who was not nearly as loving as iroh or zuko’s mother. I was angry in all the same ways he was, never related to a charicter more than him.
Zuko was such a kindhearted good kid. He was forced to be a bad guy and impress his father. As he got older All Zuko really wanted was his mother, Poor guy. But replacing his mother was his proud Uncle and I love how his Uncle was always there for him no matter what, he never judged Zuko for being himself. His Uncle is the reason for Zuko changing and becoming a better man.
The two are the greatest earthbenders that ever lived so of course they would need 8 people to stop them. Also I think that Toph is actually 12 not 10.
I like this character because it made such a development. Once he got his honour back from his father he realized that "honour" is not something anyone can give to you but it is something you earn for yourself.
Leaves from the vine Falling so slow Like fragile tiny shells Drifting in the foam Little soldier boy Come marching home Brave soldier boy Comes marching home
THE LEAVES DID FALL.... FROM BRANCHES OVERGROWN.... DRIFTING...SLOWLY DOWN RESTING ALL ALONE... LITTLE SOLDIER BOY... TAKEN FROM A HOME... FORCED TO FIGHT A WAR... THAT WAS NOT HIS OWN.
