@Erhart LPS I found someone with a similar idea in the comments shortly after I posted this one. Didn't know that someone else already came up with the idea before.
Wendy Berrios Then Ty Lee, who’d been standing there like “umm... umm... who do I did with? Who do I side with?!?” steps in and is basically “no Azula, you are not torching her. That would be cruel and somewhat unusual.”
Lmao this reminded me of when my cousins son said that if he got a brother they would keep him and if he got a sister they would give her to my uncle aka his grandpa😂😂😂
Zuko: Keeps too many secrets Mai: Keeps too many emotions in I imagine they’re argument- Mai: How am I supposed to stay with you if you don’t tell me anything? Zuko: Well how was I supposed to know you’d want to know and that you’d care?
Someone needs to get saved for drama and we need a reason to care. The "safest" bets that engender sympathy are babies and kind old people. Kidnapping someone's love interest is cliche, plus if it's a girl it becomes even more overused, while if it's a guy the audience is very likely to hate him for being weak and unmanly.
@Yeah "Would never win" I don't agree, and neither does both the show and the comics. Zuko beat her twice in the comics even when she was in a good state of mind as far as that's possible for Azula, and even before her breakdown in the Agni-Kai he fought her to a stalemate twice, once at the Western Air Temple, and once in the Boiling Rock. His chances become smaller of course, but it's still 50/50 at the very least for Zuko. Remember, he was taught by the Dragons. The last dude who got trained by the Dragons is arguably a better firebender than Ozai, and Zuko also happened to have learned from that man.
All this is starts to seem a lot less dumb when you realize they’re teenagers and this is basically highschool relationship drama with the added weight of ending a century long war and the work that comes after that
Doesn't a whole war add a lot and they're not normal teenagers , he has to rule a whole damn country and get his problem out and not some person who just doesn't care about his feelings . It's a cute teenage relationship but not for the long run .
And both find meaning and greater purpose for their lives through their respective relatives' humbler pursuits. Part of me wonders if the two of them should be introduced
Not uncommon in the biographies of women who were involved with highly important men in politics and war and who were only teenagers by the time of their "stories". Seriously, think about how brilliant and some First Ladies have been, but their major role in history is still "husband was a president".
But like, what color are Aang's eyes? THAT's a real topic to talk about. I know they are grey, (gray) but the animation makes his eyes change colors some times! It's just fun to point out which colors are in which episodes.
Also the fact that zuko and mai named there daughter Izumi which means fountain is so cute because that’s when they both realized they liked each other so they named there daughter after the place the to realized they loved each other
You are correct, that is very cute. I’m over here pressing X to doubt Mai’s contribution to Izumi’s existence after the shitstorm that is her love life. With Zuko Without Zuko With Zuko Without Zuko With Zuko Without Zuko With street urchin (forgot his name sorry) Without street urchin Open for interpretation (I want to vomit)
Honestly this is how there relationship went half the time Kissing - argue • Zuko storms off - Mai does something “cute” •Zuko : I love when you .... *starts kissing and go back together* ^EVERY SINGLE TIME^
Let's just be honest The cringiest thing in the show was Zuko saying "I love how you hate everything" Like bois they aren't the emo couple. They're more complex than that.
To be honest that was true love. Mai gave up so much for Zuko. She betrayed her own nation and family even tho she was raised not to do so. But i don't know why I still think there is something between Zuko and Mai that doesn't quite work well.
It may be all of the toxic parts of her personality and Zuko's personality they got being raised as Fire Nation elites. During the time they separated in the comics, they were able to get rid of those toxic parts before they harmed each other more. If you look at their faces at the end of the Avatar the Last Airbender TV series, you can see how when they are able to communicate to each other, Mai's willingness to listen to him and her assuredness is his stronghold and soothes his stress-filled mind.
Yeah , they're just toxic . Mai is a person who doesn't care about other people's feelings and finds them a burden but zuko focuses so much on his feelings his life revolves around it . Such a difference is too much as they're both extremes and the way they handle this difference is not good . They do have differences but in a bad way and they're too similar in some aspects as well leading them to not understanding each other . Even after everything feelings will be a great part for Zuko but for Mai that's not the case . So they don't work out and they never talk about their break up. Why it happened? What caused it? That's where the problem lies . And they've broken up so many times , there's a rare possibility that it'll end in a happy marriage. Overall glad that the broke up I the comics.
Mai really needs someone that can anchor her, set firm boundaries, and be completely assertive. Zuko isn’t that person because he doesn’t even know his own emotions much of the time and his role as Fire Lord will require him to get into dangerous situations. He needs someone with a water or air personality.
@@Ironcabbit yes, absolutely zuko needs someone who can understand his feelings and isn't so feiry. Same goes for Mai she needs someone who compliments her personality, zuko just doesn't fit the role. So instead of cute or heartwarming or even romantic they come off as toxic.
neither of them know how to feel empathy. they need to learning about empathy before either of them getting into a relationship with anyone, not just each other, is going to work
KHABIB TIME!!! I mean good advice it’s better to date someone when you’re at your best and when you don’t need your lover to live or something like that.
idk why people hate her saying zuko needs someone who will support him and show that she cares for him to better his mental health but she isnt his therapist. she always tried to calm him down when he was tensed(?) and tried to cheer him up when they were at her parents house and thats only one of the scenes that showed their relationship. what else do yall want from her? all that she showed about herself in the series is that she hates everyone except zuko and shes a badass tho being pressured by her parents. its just that zukos family problems are too much that they cant have a normal relationship.
Bro, it's obvious Mai couldn't care less about Zuko's feelings ("I asked if you were cold, I didn't ask for your whole life story."). Yeah, she isn't his therapist, but at LEAST listen to what your partner is saying. That's just one of the many factors of why their relationship is as toxic and unhealthy as it is.
@@no.5179 you do know after she said, which was a joke, she literally comforted him and hugged him. touch is her love language. nvm that she sacrificed herself in front of AZULA for him.
She calls him in his bullshit TWICE because he's not telling her nothing. Hiding things is the worst in a relationship. The part about the "are you cold" she was trying to confort him with some humour, and she always choose to show her love for him with hugs, kisses and cuddling (like when he slept(?) in her house). Mai sacrifice too much for him, always with an eye on Azula. In the Beach episode she looks so tired with Azula: "do you wanna me to express myself? Leave me alone!" I love Mai because ppl like her dont need to show everytime she loves with empty words and fake actions, she's always by his side and caring him, that's what matters. ❤🔥
@@chriss.3817 EXACTLY THANK YOU. And shes definitely my second favorite character in the show. But Zuko was more of the issue, but he was going through an identity crisis. But mai helped him work through that and comforted him constantly. She doesnt need words to express what she feels. Zuko said himself he felt horrible for leaving her behind, but he as well never knew how much mai loved him.
@@whereami2130 They're my fav too!!! Their conversation abt the letter in the episode Boiling rock and her eyes almost crying when he locked her up in the cell... He knew she wont let him go to a mission she considered danger to him. Maiko is perfect
The first time I watched the show I had a hard time figuring out Mai. She likes Zuko, but every time he tried to cheer her up by giving her a gift she had a negative response.. It was only after re-watching the show that it made more sense. As the daughter of a rich family she was used to getting gifts from her parents.. as long as she acted the right way. She didn't look at them as gifts any longer, to her they're just bribes or rewards for acting how others wanted her to act, to comply with the ridged royal life style that she felt oppressed by. When you're rich it's easy to try to find happiness by purchasing the next thing that captures your interest, but all to often that "thing" fails to bring us the joy that we thought that it would.. Some people spend their entire lives trying to find happiness by collecting one thing after another, while others like Mai can become apathetic to the chase because it never resolves. When Zuko opens up around the campfire on Ember island he says that "I should be happy now, but I'm not." because he has everything that he wanted, by conforming to what was demanded of him. This is something that Mai could easily relate to as she had also been given everything she had wanted, but like Zuko was never able to find true joy in them.
The reason I read was because legend of kora didn’t appeal to children enough or something, i want another season directly after the war or when aang is truly mastering all the elements
“Mai, don’t tell me this is you new BOYFRIEND, Zuko wasn’t that great but your standards are getting lower” HAHAHAHAHAA!!! Clearly Mai agreed with Azula on that
Everybody be saying Katara and Zuko are perfect together. My guy, y’all forgetting about our girl mai. Like ok, she isn’t a big character but she’s really pretty and iconic. She and zuko looks very cute together, just like ty lee said. I’m just a new fan of avatar, but at least I understand.
In defense of Zuko and Mai’s relationship, they’re teenagers for a large portion of the plot we see in the show and in the comics. Relationships between teens are weird and complicated and often times they just don’t know how to deal with the work that comes with a serious relationship. This can be especially true if one of them has more responsibilities than the other. I went through a similar situation with one of my own relationships. So really they were both trying their best, it just didn’t work out a lot.
I hate how everyone is always hating on Mai for being “emo” and “emotionless”; saying she’s annoying and boring. In the series she was like 15: The Age of Emo. Are you really gonna tell me you never loved (romantically or platonically) anyone who was emo or were emo-esque yourself? Cuz I definitely was and I always really related to Mai because I always felt really emotionally repressed by my family (not to mention the world). As I’ve grown older, I no longer think of emotions as gross, bad or weak things but it’s still really hard for me to be expressive and show emotion. Seriously everyone I know or have met has referred to me as being monotone and/or seeming “generally uninterested”. It’s a hard habit to break, but I’m trying to grow out of it and Mai is too. I love her. 💕
c lovely idk, some people have said that’s right but others have said the statement in the beach episode was wrong so... 🤷🏻♀️She’s Between 15-17. Regardless tho I think that “age of emo” still applies.
I personally am really mad with her character because I have the same personality, but nobody finds me attractive because of it and yet she has a hot ass bf lol
We all know for a person like zuko that's difficult plus we also see how she deals with his problems "I didn't ask for your life's story" . They just don't work out . They both aren't willing to compromise.
@M Kahn Ty Lee literally struck her in the back. Azula is powerful enough of a firebender to throw so much flame at once that Ty Lee would never get close on a 1v1 confrontation.
Your brain uses absolutely everything as advice or how to avoid things so it's likely that since humans are social creatures all romance plots are memorized for your brain to draw from memory if ever in a similar situation Yes I always talk like this
No it wasn't. They kept breaking up on and on. And even when they were together most of the time it was always one of them being moody and the other getting annoyed by it.
I’m pretty much 99% convinced that Mai is Izumis mom. Izumi looks like a exact combination of zuko and Mai and even has some of Mais mannerisms when we see her in a few scenes of LOK. And her name means fountain in Japanese which could resemble their first moment together falling in the fountain when they were children. And plus they still have great chemistry and love for each other after all these years. They were literally meant for each other
@@-Muichiro-Chan- I’m talking about legend of korra (that’s why I said in LOK) when the gang is old and zuko has a daughter Izumi but it’s not confirmed who her mom is. And I think it could be mai given the reasons I said previously.
I really hated Mai for most of my time watching the show. I kinda just saw her as Zuko's emo girlfriend but this video actually made me appreciate her more. I really want so see more of her character outside of her relationship with Zuko and Azula.
If you just mean after the series the koshi warriors now serve zuko directly, and suki and ty lee are like zuko's personal body guards. They're with him more than the other kyoshi warriors.
@@killakam3600 In the wikia, I saw someone mentioned that a creator said that Suki and Sokka moved to a suburb together. So I assume that since Zuko and Sokka were best buddies in the comic and also Zuko treated Suki as if she was his friend, Zuko allowed Suki to retire from being his bodyguard at some point. After that Sokka married Suki, moved to a suburb which was most likely in Republic city, fucked and gave birth to a few kids which are not shown in LoK :(
@@fsmraps I seriously doubt that... Especially since the original writers are part of it they wouldn't dare ruining one of their characters on something so stupid as Identity politics or sexuality
I honestly thought we would see her again. At least we got to see how their relationship started even if it never progressed. Not saying I hate Mai, but I thought Jin and Zuko would of been together.
@@rin-sv2sk I get what your saying, Mai is a loveable person, I like her character sometimes but mostly I get kinda weirded out on how many time she says "boring" in the show. Maybe a short series would be nice, she kinda shows people you can do anything of you work hard, she's pretty inspiring like you said. (This is way too long lmao)
Almost any character could've had there own series every character has a great background story and have amazing experiences that I would love to hear in any series I would love to watch almost any series on every character before and after the main series this would be an amazing thing in my idea
Zuko's daughters name is Izumi. Izumi means "spring" or "FOUNTAIN"! I'm sure they did get together and have their happily ever after. Just look at Firelord Izumi in LOK she looks like Mai
I ship Mai and Zuko sooo hard but I cringe at this part Mai: I hate the color orange Zuko: I love it when you hate everything I feel like that's so cringe, but other than that I love them
@@zennoix9984 The reason behind that is because the focus was on the plot of the show. There are so many interesting characters, however they can't exactly look at everyone's life on less than 30 minute episodes.
