Eek! Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD and Sonic Forces on one game card! Eek! Edited by Sam Essig and Scott Wozniak Main Channel: @ScottTheWoz Twitter: / scottthewoz Facebook: / scottthewoz Instagram: / scottthewoz
I mean, he has a physical copy, so why bother? Also, interestingly stupid fact: Possible chance Forces shows up like that because of DLC Forces has that was never made available on the digital eShop, and Scott likely used a code from an OG physical copy. However, because there's no eShop listing for it, it can't be redownloaded without downloading the digital game in question, but you *can* download the game itself without the DLC for some weird reason. I discovered a trick to that. You archive the digital version of the game, then you put the cart for it in, choose to update data, and then the system will download the update data AND the DLC. It's so freaking stupid that you gotta do it, though, and the cloud icon doesn't really get replaced by a cart icon, either. Weirdly, though, as I've a physical LRG copy of Doom Eternal, the eShop says there's still DLC that I've not downloaded despite doing this, and I even checked to be sure all DLC in question was downloaded(it is).
@@JeskidoYT Other companies are guilty of this, btw, such as Ubisoft with both Immortal Fenyx Rising with the Gold Edition and/or the Season Pass having an exclusive quest, and Mario & Rabbids Kingdom Battle with the Season Pass having exclusive weapons. It ain't just Sega.
I like these games having separate icons since that means they’re separate games on your profile, it says you’re playing the specific game and showcases your hours similarly.
I’m studying Computer Engineering rn, and let me tell you, that shit is straight up black magic for me as well. You can ask me to put the game in there and I will gladly do so but holy fuck, don’t ask me how it works physically
i think the funniest nintendo multipack is probably the fnaf collection to me, you put it in and the entire goddamn franchise shows up in your console, giving you a quite literal jumpscare.
My favourite is the Final Fantasy VII and VIII cartridge just because it's a nice full circle back to the FFVII ads that bragged about the game requiring 3 discs or 200 cartridges
I feel like another reason why they don’t have the “select-a-game-menu” is to maintain parity with the switch Eshop, if they had a cartridge exclusive version of one multi game they would have to seperatly that version as well
la-mulana and la-mulana 2 released as separate games on the eshop, but the physical game card version, the la-mulana & la-mulana 2 "hidden treasures edition", had a simple game selector menu that launched the games from one switch icon. for some reason, 3 years and 2 months after the initial release, the bundle version was made available digitally on the eshop as well! it's the best of both worlds lol edit: it turns out that the 3-year-later bundle eshop release is permanently $5 cheaper than buying both games separately, and also la-mulana 1 & 2 standalone are 2.5 GB and 4.3 GB respectively, but the bundle is only 5 GB somehow
Prinny 1 & 2: Exploded and Reloaded is also a physical cartradge with both "Prinny: Can I really Be a Hero?" and "Prinny 2: Dawn of Operation Panties, Dood!" in one. No download code required.
I don’t know why, but I’ve always liked these multi-game packs. I mean, the concept of these things were always fascinating to me: getting multiple games in one cartridge/disc was amazing.
The hands-down best “multiple games on one cartridge” option is The Ori Collection. Blind Forest and Will of the Wisps on one cart, plus a soundtrack download code and several really gorgeous cards featuring scenes from the games… it’s one of those things that I think should be in every Switch collection.
Risk of Rain 1 and 2 got a physical Switch release with both games packed into the same cartridge. Interestingly, it was pushed out while Risk of Rain 2 was still in early access on Steam, so the version of that game on the cartridge is incomplete and unpolished but still playable. You can run the game without downloading an update, and it feels like opening a time capsule.
But wait, the FF Collection isn't the most games on one cartridge! Annapurna Interactive released the Annapurna Interactive Collection, which contains 12 games, all with their own icon as they were all released at different times on the Switch. The 12 games are Donut Dodo, Gorogoa, Hindsight, I Am Dead, If Found..., Kentucky Route Zero:TV Edition, Neon White, Sayonarra Wild Hearts, Solar Ash, The Artful Escape, The Pathless, and What Remains of Edith Finch. A few of these games had never been released physically on Switch before, so this release is great, I own one personally.
Interestingly Megaman Legacy Collection 2 DOES indeed have a physical Switch release...! Only via a expensive Japan only premium box. Least the X Collections can be bought separately for cheap in Play Asia, but Classic Legacy 2? Hope you have 500+!
8:53 - The Annapurna Collection contains 12 separate game files, filling the entire screen. The physical copy retailed for $199.99 and is one of the rarest physical Switch games at 2,500 total cartridges.
I like it the way, Batman collection did it. Because with a download code like other collections did it, you redeem it once and the copy is now only the first game. You can buy Batman pre owned or borrow it to someone and both can play all three games.
I remember finding the Banana Blitz HD + Sonic Forces combo pack in a GameStop, sitting right next to a copy of just Banana Blitz HD. It was $5 more expensive than the combo with Sonic Forces 💀
My problem with games that come with download codes is that those eventually expire for some reason. And if you haven’t redeemed it or you bought the game years down the road, the code is essentially useless.
Bought a used copy of Trine collection from a game shop. Only included the first game and the download code had been used. Had to inform them I wanted my money back and that they had basically a useless game.
Fun fact, the most games on a multi game cartridge like this is the Annapurna interactive deluxe collection. It has 12 games all on one cart with no downloads.
Kind of makes sense that Capcom did the download code before Nintendo had the functionality added, because if they made it a separate icon on your Home Screen with a menu to pick between them, it wouldn’t share saves with the other copies you might have already played from the eShop or borrowing a cartridge.
Hey, if Arkham City and Knight aren’t one-time downloads like they would be as codes, the trilogy might have a pretty good life later down the line on the second hand market.
the metal gear solid master collection on switch was also similar but way more overly complicated. The cartridge itself didn't even have any of the main 3 mgs games and only the first two metal gear games and the other 3 metal gear games were given as a download code.
The only multigame cartridge I own is blaster master zero trilogy which is actually a pretty cool release not only does it include all the dlc but it even includes voice acting which is exclusive to this release
Honestly. With the release of Switch flash cards now. It's only a matter of time until you can pop in once card and all your games show up as separate games. On any non jailbroken switch. Just wait.
Would be funny if people started selling flash cards with games pre installed but instead it just zip bombs your switch with 20 thousand games that are just a png of a troll face
Remember Ateliers games had like that, Atelier Mysterious Trilogy and Atelier Dusk Trilogy had three games in one cart (alongside music & art you can watch in switch menu). Probably it's best example. Other good example is Blaster Master with all three games. Thanks Play-Asia, i buy these but remember Atelier games cost like more 90$
One Switch multicart I have that I think is really funny just for its title is AMERICA'S GREATEST GAME SHOWS: WHEEL OF FORTUNE & JEOPARDY. I mean, the pairing absolutely makes sense, I just think its funny that Ubisoft gave it such a long title. On the other hand, I found it for $20 at a Walmart somewhere in Pennsylvania and ended up having fun playing it half-drunk with some friends on a trip to the Poconos, so that's worth the price of admission alone.
Their Star Wars Heritage Pack you have 7 games but still 5 game in the cartridge you have to download KOTOR 1 & 2 this is the second best value after FF Pixel Remastered cartridge !!!
I have a few of these, and it definitely feels like some wizardry to put one game cart in and have multiple games pop up. So far I have the PlayAsia Japanese/Asian collections for No More Heroes 1+2, River City Girls 1+2 and Bloodstaind Curse of the Moon 1+2, but I also recently picked Pikmin 1+2 and the collection with both Ori games as well. Having a collection with two games that are super mid like Banana Blitz HD and Sonic Forces would give me a big case of buyer’s remorse though lol
Its so funny to me that, from what I remember, you can buy the games for these collections beforehand and they wont make a duplicate on your console, so you could (for example) buy all the fnaf games on eshop and then your cartridge becomes basically worthless
The Batman Collection having the downloads required by the card is better than a download code since you can use it on multiple switches with multiple accounts instead of using the download code once
I love how the whole 'need game card inserted to play the game you installed' is just getting us right back to the mid 2000's of PC gaming where you needed a disc in the drive to boot a game lol
I imported the Dragon Quest 1-3 Trilogy on Switch from China. It's really cool to have, even if those versions of the game kinda suck. I still recommend it to any Dragon Quest fans with excess money to burn
Multi game collections were, and still are unique to this day. GameBoy Advance used to have a bunch of them and the DS probably had very few of them. It's nice seeing this was carried over to the Switch and many franchises would have the most obnoxious collection of games in a single cartridge for the same price, if not higher, than a third-party game itself.
I'd honestly say the Batman Arkham Trilogy way is better in the long run. Eventually people will want to sell or give these games used, or maybe a library will add the game to its collection, so by having the other games be on there but require downloads to really have the game on there, you allow for secondhand owners to not be screwed out of part of the bundle.
Yepp. Square dropped the ball on the North American version, only allowed like an hour window to order it, then stopped after that. You can get the Play-Asia version for like $80, which is just about the same thing except for the rating on it
The standard price for that collection was supposed to be around €75, but Square Enix's store sold it mainly to scalpers and the rest is abominable history.
I think it's better to have extra games downloaded via an update than a code because then you can buy a copy second hand and still get access to all of the games.
Updates are better than download codes in two important ways - it means that the additional games are available for secondhand purchasers of the cart and it means that the game is still available for download after then inevitable online store closure/game delisting
Personally I’d rather how the Batman games handle a multi game pack, where once the game card is in you can download the games The borderlands collection does it the other way where you get borderlands 1 on card and borderlands 2 & pre sequel as a eshop code The difference is when you go to sell/buy the game used, with borderlands you can only resell the game on the card, with Batman you get all 3 games buying new or used
I got a custom “replacement” case for Final Fantasy 1-6 for PS4 that does have the ESRB. But I still don’t even own a single one of the games even digitally.
Fun fact: Five Nights at Freddy's has the Core Collection on 1 game card which includes FNAFs 1-4 and Sister Location. You can find it on switch for like $40.
Dunno whether to feel happy or sorry for Scott getting that FF 1-6 multi pack. They’re all great games but they far from worth their current price on the eshop and on the physical cart. Happy I was able to wait for a sale plus have a fair amount of gold points.
I got the Banana Blitz/Forces combo pack because it was ten dollars and there were nine price stickers layered on top of it and I thought that was hilarious. I beat Forces just to say I did it and I still haven't touched Banana Blitz.
Lol I can imagine that 😂😂 $2 $1 $1 $1 $1 $1 $1 $1 $1 Btw why a physical Switch game which such a low price?!? In my country a new game is €60 and an used game is like €55 (at this point you'd rather buy a new game, right?)
You missed the metal gear collection. It has it all. Aeveral games preinstalled on the cartridge. All with their own game icon. Except for Metal Gear 1 and 2 which are together with a new menu to select which one you want and then in those you can download different versions of that game. Its nuts
Pros of physical: No storage space wasted Cons of physical: Having to change the cartridge each time Pros of digital: Easier to play games faster Cons of digital: Having to download it Literally the Arkham collection has both cons with no pros
Nice video, Scott! One point that I think you missed about the multi-cartridge approach instead of download codes is that they make these collections worth more when you sell your used copies. For example, you could buy a used copy of Batman Arkham Collection and that would include all games, but a Resident Evil Collection copy probably wouldn't come with an unused download code, so they would be incomplete (most used copies from this game only includes Resident Evil 4 now).
I remember Nintendo released Wii Sports + Wii Sports Resort double pack for the Wii and it was just one disc that would let you pick what game to launch into from the games menu rather then two different icons on the Wii home menu
With the Download collections: One way they can appease physical collectors and people just wanting all the games would be to say the download games are "Bonus" games on the packaging. Like, you're buying "Resident Evil 4" on Switch but a sticker on-top of the shrink wrap mentions you can download a bunch of others for no extra cost. Win-win.
This issue you brought up of no longer needed a downloaded second game is actually getting implemented for the upcoming Ty the Tasmanian Tiger rerelease of 1,2,&4 (not 3 idk why). The new cart will have all 3 games and the original made you download the second game and didn’t have 4
The upside about the Arkham collection are the people that buy used don’t have to purchase the copy digitally. Which might not even be possible if the store ever goes down.
I feel you, I would probably prefer the single menu most of the times. However what Capcom did with the download codes was just bad, it was bad then it is still bad now.
the weirdest thing about the Mega Man X legacy collections is that they put 4 games in both installments when the series was supposed to end at 5. The first classic legacy collection ended at Mega Man 6 which was the last one on NES, but Mega Man X just stops one game before reaching a natural end point
The Borderlands collection has it so that only the first game is on the cart while BL2 and the pre-sequel are redeemed via a code that you need to input making it difficult to trade-in if you ever want to.
There is one multi-game cart that I know of that somehow has more games than the Final Fantasy one. It's known as the Annapurna Interactive Collection and it crams 12 games in one cart. Probably one of the coolest releases when it comes to how many games there are included.
I have a half dozen of these. Got the Pixel Remaster collection, the Dragon Quest trilogy, Pikmin 1+2, Baten Kaitos 1+2, The Oddworld Collection and the FFVII and VIII double pack. Great deals.
I think the MGS Master collection vol. 1 on switch puts either 6 or 7 icons on your Home Screen as well. I wanna say 1.2,3, bonus stuff, and the 2 older older games.
