Sadly it’s often the case, that the awful person who is committing the crime gets far more attention than the victims
@jademcqueen5474
@jademcqueen5474 2 года назад
Because people want to know about someone who could do something so evil, they are intrigued to know what happened in thier life to drive them to harm others, if it was all about the victims no one would be interested as much, that's why it's good when family or friends of victims set up foundations in memory of victims to help others. There would be no true crime channels without in depth info on the purportrators.

I think it was Norway who refused to publish the name of a mass shooter and to focus on the victims instead. The US should do the same taking away the possibility of fame which is what some shooters want.

Amazing how these killers always seem to have someone to excuse them because they had a "troubled childhood". So very many kids had ghastly upbringings but did NOT go out and destroy others. Also, the bleating that goes on from the killers when they know that their own life is to be forfeit staggers many. The dear victim/s did not have a choice, their killer did, no messing get in the slammer and shut up, game over.

It should never had so long for this POS to be put down, anyone who can kill 2 young kids can't be rehabilitated in my opinion and to try to justify it with such a ridiculous statement just tops it off. I don't believe he had changed and this crime is on my own list that I believe if committed then rehabilitation is pointless to try because they've already crossed the line and once over they will never go back and are more likely to do it again.

I remember this very well. I grew up in the neighborhood west of Oak Hill Road. Aspen Ridge was the new subdivision going up directly east from us. We often road our bikes past the Gilligan house on our way to the trails in the woods and Pidgeon Creek bottom. The family name of course made us think of Gilligans Island, which we often watched. The neighborhood was ( and still is) a nice, largely crime free area. It was so shocking to the whole town. There were many details and pictures in the presentation which I never knew about. I do recall that the judge said that Donald Wallace had Grovelled in the very depths of human degradation. (I think that is the direct quote, but it has been a many years ago ) I never met the Gilligans, but I did briefly speak to Mrs. Gilligan. I had gone to Wesselman park and left my camera near the playground. It was Mrs Gilligan who found it and turned it in at the park shelter. They had taken her name & number. When I picked the camera up, the employee suggested that I call and thank her, which I did. That was June 1979, the summer before the murders.

This was difficult to watch. Theresa was my mother’s first cousin. I will never forget that morning she got the call. The look of horror on her face is forever etched in my mind. Justice delayed is justice unserved. Capital punishment is a pathetically slow process when judges let paperwork sit on their desks for years. Gut wrenching to say the least.

It made my blood run cold to read your comment. It makes a horrible, tragic story like this one become all the more real. I absolutely share your view on what masquerades as a legal justice system in this country. I imagine judges letting paperwork sit on desks is but one of many inexcusable factors at play. I've really gotten into these solved cold cases over the past 6 or 7 years now and the virtual onslaught of them over the past few years now, in particular, has been something to behold. As much as I enjoy following them, I'm also put off by certain aspects that seem to be included in damned near every solved cold case story - this huge, highly publicized spectacle we have to witness being put on by law enforcement, with huge pats on the back for everybody, as if they never let up working any of these cases and it isn't really the DNA science that's opened the flood gate - pathetic how much credit they shamelessly take. It's NOT good enough!! They should be factoring this "backlog" of 60+ years into ALL of their budgets - we KNOW the money is to be had. It's almost as if they WANT to wait for brokenhearted parents/family to be dead already...AND the perps! Too little too late and opening old wounds.

How quickly things escalated, committing a crime but goes on to commit an even more heinous crime. Why can't people just try getting some menial work, and live in harmony. This BS of bad childhood doesn't gel with me, many people have very difficult abusive childhoods but made a good life for themselves, and their families.

I always found the extravagant "last meals" of the choice of the inmates to be odd. I mean, the concept i definitely understand, for an innocent person, but for someone who is sentenced to death because they clearly committed a heinous crime, I don't know that they really deserve it.

Hello, What horrific, senseless and diabolical murders of a lovely, innocent family. He had lots of options Not to kill this beautiful family but his only concern was for himself without an iota of compassion for their lives but of course plenty for himself. To walk away, brag about his illicit haul of guns, money etc. and have gruesome photos taken clearly evidences he was oblivious and indifferent to his evil murders, even of little children, and was gleeful to show of his his bounty from this, now dead, family. Pure evil. Xxxx

The tragic part is that he probably intended to rob an empty home. He didn't think about killing anyone until the father worked himself loose. From that point, he had to compound the murder by killing all the witnesses or be identified. If he could have found a way out of the house and escaped without the murders, he's likely looking at a prison term under ten years. Instead he winds up on death row with a guilty conscience.

Child killers really should not get to keep living. Idc about his intent or lack thereof or whatever (says him ya know...blah blah blah string of bs). He still did what he did and “I didn’t mean to” doesn’t fix any of the fallout or make anyone less dead or damaged. I also think they should revoke the last meals. I don’t think it was remorse at all tho. I think it was still all about him just finally deciding he wanted to die. See how that works tho? Still all about him and not all the people he snuffed out or harmed.

No one on put to death should be on death row for 23 year's. Even 2 year's is too long. Over $500,000 in tax just to keep some animal alive. I say 30 day's after you get it your dead. 23 year's on death row isn't justice for the victims or family. It's an insult to them

Hello, just found you and subscribed 😀. I feel like the murderer didn’t originally plan to actually kill the family. if he didn’t bring a kill kit of sorts, noticing that he used things around the house to subdue the family. I just don’t feel like it was premeditated in that way; I think things escalated once the altercation happened. Not to state that he is any less at fault for what he did. Also it seems like robbing the neighbors house could appear that he was greedy but rather appears to me to be an act out of guilt. Meaning that he robbed that house too, so that person would be alerted and then check the side family noticing what happened. Like he was guilty and did it almost unintentionally. Just my thoughts.

I remember this very well. I live in the town where this happened. My husband & I had been married a couple of years and our home was in a subdivision not very far away from where the Gilligan family lived. These horrible murders shook everyone in Evansville to our bones. Will never ever forget the Gilligan family whose young lives were taken away from them senselessly. Glad to see the story being shared in honor of the young Gilligan family.

That poor family. Those wee babies. I just can't ... and "I'm a changed man" accompanied with "I'm so tired of doing time, I've exhausted my options, to die is early parole" ... where's the remorse and changed man in that? The eyes are certainly still the same.

I think he murdered them out of envy, his childhood was far different with cold parents. Seeing this family so close and loving to each other inflamed his anger at how different he was raised?

Your being remorseful doesn't bring the family back. If my son did this, I would do him myself.

Are you sure your research was correct on the blood type evidence? If one parent has type O blood, and the other has type AB blood, the children can only have blood types A or B. Neither child could have had type AB.

New sub…..would like to see you do a story about the Axe Murders in B.C by Eric Peever and Tyrone Borglund wherein they killed Peever’s entire family in 1989. I have a family member who is friends with one of them which I’m still trying to understand. Thanks!
