Excellent as usual. I also wanted to thank for your work, helping out bass players in the world. It's been a while since I follow your videos, you're the best teacher so far I've ever seen in the internet. Thanks again. Peace and Bass, from France.
I gave up playing bass in college back in the late 70's and two weeks ago I bought a bass and amp and took it up again. Got to say these videos are fantastic, thanks for this.
Never give up on what you enjoy! I gave up playing for 10 years because the ex didn't want me to play. I've since started playing again too! Don't get discouraged or intimidated by the 3 and 9 yr. old prodigies here on YT HAHA it's all for the enjoyment of the instrument!
@@thebigempty_5792 prodigy? There are absolutely no shortcuts at all. You must put in the time. Just because parents throw an instrument into their child's hands at 2 doesn't take the time away of practicing. If you don't truly have a desire to put the hours in then that person is just expecting to play like a pro in a delusional world.
You are truly the best resource available for bass guitar on the internet. Thank God for you and your work and for Al Gore for inventing the internet so I can watch your videos.
I'm a very beginner bass player and I want to thank you for these great videos! You have a clear relatable teaching style and I get more out of your videos than any other RU-vid channels I've seen. Great work!
Man these lessons have helped me become a bass player, really enjoying the different styles and techniques. Watched Another video where you do the three finger pluck and I now incorporate that in to my playing! Thank you sir, keep on keepin on
I've downloaded allot of the free tutorials you've made available on RU-vid , THANK YOU , so incredibly helpful. I'm unemployed and have F4 End stage liver disease so I'm broke but if I could I'd be buying your books with cold cash ..playing bass is what gets me out of bed in the afternoon. Your tutorials are fantastic and most helpful , again thank you.
I want to thank you so much for ur powerful explanation mark ur d best teacher in d world when it comes to basslines cause it really helped me with my bass playing in church thank u mark much respect n one love jah blessings
Once again a great lesson. I strengthen my theory with each of your lessons. It is very nice how you take a simple line and teach it getting progressively more advanced and teaching the theory behind it in a practical way. I also would love to run into an Enfiels bass, but we don't seem to see them in the states.
I always wanted to kw how to play these licks n u made it possible... ur head is full of many bass Mark... great stuff I appreciate ur teaching man big up urself
I really dig your videos.I have one small suggestion however, if you could use a different backdrop, say orange for instance, it would probably be easier on your viewers eyes.Just a thought, and thanks for posting.
Very nice little riff with the 9th or octaved ii, might try it in a slow blues jam [ slightly modified] since it is nice and mellow. Your lessons have been mentioned in SBL Academy by members. You are an excellent teacher. Cheers
Thanks a lot. Don't know if they mentioned it but I do all the transcriptions and write all the lesson material for SBL. I've known Scott since the 90s.
@@talkingbasslessons I've often wondered if you two knew each other outside of professional admiration. You both seem like sincere well-intentioned people with beyond the pale bass skills.
Nice video mate. If You play the 5th with the ring finger of the left hand the overall feel would be better and the control of the slide from the octave to the 9th would be more accurate (because you would land on the g-string with the tip of the (4th) finger instead of the joint. A bit of trichotomy on my side here but as someone said - the details make up the culture. Other than that great job !
Yes, that's another way of doing it. My only reservation is that the ring, pinky way is a little more messy and 'spider finger' like but some people find it easier so it is worth mentioning. In terms of control, it would be better for vibrato or any other expressive techniques but this line is limited to the slide up. I'm looking for a neat hand and a little exercise in the pinky and development of the callus around the joint. Notice that when including the 10th I position shift rather than using the pinky. Every line is different.

If you were to hang about on the 9th too much would it feel wrong cos the 9th isn't always in the key's major scale- or any of its modes? Does it need the back to the octave to resolve?
Yes your right. 2nd octave up always fits with major chords. This was an old question when I was trying to get my head around this stuff; thanks for the reply :)
