My dad bought a 1998 cobra brand new whenever I was a teenager. He let me take my date to my prom in it. He took me to my cancer treatments in it, we did donutsin a parking lot, he drifted in that car. So many great memories in that 98 cobra. One day soon, I will own a 98 cobra of my own.
Hi Spencer, how are you doing now? Pleasantries aside, as an Asian I really appreciate classic muscle as where I'm from the only new muscle car is the new Mustang which is sold worldwide
Alright I wasn’t ready for this right before bed. Now I’m all in my feels. On another note I hope you are doing well and I truly hope you get a 98 cobra soon
I'm a chevy guy born and raised and I've never liked mustangs for the most part but I can really appreciate this guy building the car he grew up in for him to pass down to his kids. It's a sick car and people like this make the car scene what it is. It doesn't matter what car you have or how fast it is. If it's important to you and you love and care about it that's all that matters. ✌️
@@redlight3932biggest difference is the heads. Everyone talks bad about the car cause the body is controversial & people talk bad about the heads. The B heads do exceptionally well with boost however NA these cars are kind of a dog. You really need cams & at least a 4:10 to really get these things moving. Also, they’re incredibly reliable cars. I owned a built 03 Mach 1, and my dad had a 03 cobra. The 97 was the oldest and most original and had the LEAST amount of problems. Like I said in the video I’m on the original trans and rear end over 200K miles. Guy on RU-vid bought a 97 cobra all original with over 400K miles the odometer worked. I made a video years ago saying that the 96-98 cobra is the BEST mustang you can buy for 10,000$ or less and I still stand buy that opinion. Mainly due to 10K or less you can buy a cobra in really good condition with low to decent miles. Mach 1’s are in rougher shape for the 10K and up mark. I paid 7500$ for my Mach 1 and dumped about 15K$ into to it to fix it. Motor was shot I got lied too but the owner, 4/10 paint condition/interior was beat up etc etc. you get much better car for the $$$ on the 96-98 cobra ok rant over lol.
Thank you so much David for the review! I had a GREAT time hanging out with you again and catching up off camera. You are such a genuinely awesome and nice guy & I cannot stress to you enough how much this meant to me & my father. My father was literally on the edge of his chair smiling ear to ear like a kid (and he loves to recline and drink his beers 😂😂) Not only was I able to have a goal accomplished by having you review this car but you made my dads night. Seriously that right there has made this entire process worth every $$ and every moment wrenching on this car worth it. The hoods back on & to give you a hint I’m doing a boost setup the everyone overlooks but loves (it’s not centrifugal & it’s not turbo). And I will also be on E85 as a couple of hints. Hoping to meet again when the car is finished up. Thank you so much David, you rock! 💪🏻 #TDIBSQUAD
@@TheSunChaserUS I genuinely don't care what anyone thinks....THE ONLY BLOWER THAT SHOULD GO ON AN SN95/NEW EDGE IS A MUTHAFUCKIN KENNE BELL!!! They sound the best, and have this aura about them that makes you say or think "Yea man this is it right here"!!!
Dude! You just flooded my brain with memories! My dad cosigned a 96 svt cobra with 4k miles on it when I was 19. Neither one of us even knew what it was. Only had it for 9 months, but it created some of the best stories of my life! Thank you for this video
Damn, somebody beat me to featuring a very cool SN95... Maybe my 1995 mustang can still be featured. It's a 6 year, rotisserie restoration/resto mod that i went too far with. If you love this mustang, you should love mine. Sweet car 💪🏆
My uncle bought a 98 GT Mustang brand new. A week after he got it, smelled fuel. Brought it in for service. Service dept burned the car down. They gave him credit for the new purchase price of the car from the dealer, AND he got paid from the insurance company. He took a brand new 98 Cobra in Royal Atlantic Blue off the showroom floor. Nice car. The second stick shift car I ever got to do burnouts in. He got GTRAC STG 3 suspension, alum driveshaft, king cobra clutch, 3.73 rear gear, bassani X pipe and bolt on engine mods. It made almost 400hp to the tire. In 98 for a basically stock car that was really good power. It was a 4.6 though, so mod motor yeah whatever. With a set of Nitto radials I ran his tire pressures at MOROSO drag strip, and it went 12s consistently all day. Almost broke into 11s. A cool car. He sold it years ago. The color caught me. A tune , exhaust, intake and injectors woke the car up. I think he even got the heads ported.
I love the 4 valve 4.6 modular, I have one in my mark viii and it’s smooth but violent 🔥I’m gonna swap my intake manifold to a cobra manifold for more power and for the looks. The sound and feel of these engines is very engaging
Back in those days, I had a procharged V6 SN95 (1998) that ate cobras and SS cameros alive. It was mildly built and had a smaller SC pulley that made 17lbs of boost. It only had 250whp but that's a huge increase from the 95whp those cars have stock.
The SN95 Cobra wasnt even the first car to get the B-head 4v engine with the Teksid block. The 93-98 Lincoln Mark VIII got it first (with a few differences, of course), plus it was on the MN12 platform that was already IRS. They're just a bit heavy. (We also won't count the '95-'02 Continental, since it had the FWD variant of the b-head 4v).
I had a 97 Cobra, and to this day, it's my favorite & most fun car I've ever had! I really do miss that car. The SN95 chassis is so underrated. I would scoop another one in a heartbeat!
Best car I have ever driven Imo, they are so driver friendly (even the manuals are very forgiving). 4.6 DOHC just loves putting the power to the ground. Even with street radials, it still chirped the tires. Would definitely recommend at least the GT, cheap, sounds good, reliable for the most part, and surprisingly has a good amount off aftermarket support.
I love the 94-98 sn95 body. I’m old, but I remember being in my early teens and the whole family was sitting in front of the TV back in December of 93 in anticipation of the debut commercial for the 1994 Mustang. It was all anyone talked about when we went to school. I had a 98 GT back in the day. I loved it, but you’re right about it sitting like a monster truck. That suspension was so squishy, it was almost unsafe…but my stock s550s sit a little too high too, but nothing like the sn95. The first gen sn95 with a nice stance and big meat, it’s probably one of my favorite looks of any Mustang out there. I get it’s not a performer, but it looks good. I’ve had two 69s, two fox bodies, two s550s, but only one sn95. I would love another.
I had a 95 Cobra which was the 5.0 pushrod motor, sprayed her with a 150 shot and had a blast. Built a 331 w/ Ported Edelbrock Heads, Custom Cam, and had the turbo kit ready to go on... Sent the Victor 5.0 Intake Manifold out for powder coat, got it back... Didn't realize there was sandblast media caked inside the manifold that despite tossing it in the parts washer and running some water through it did NOT come out. First start w/ the New 331 and in about 40 seconds it sucked the sand blast media through the engine and destroyed everything... I eventually sold the chassis and then rebuilt the engine and sold that as well, but sadly never was able to get the car back together. Would love to find that car again or one like it and Coyote swap it.
to remember the 98 cobra you gotta be old enough to remember how awesome it was... it was the first muscle car in like 25yrs to have over 300hp, the viper and corvette don't count and the camaro was in limited edition for their z/28 SS model. In 1998 that was a big deal and as a kid in the 90s seeing that more aggressive hood with the signature snake nostrals (the hood vents) was very sexy.
My mother had a 95 GT it had the weapon x cam’s exhaust so much fun!!! I took my brother for a ride and you know had fun, he told on me my mother was mad lol
Had a great memory with my pops in a white/tan vert Cobra like this one when me and my brother were younger (middle school if I remember).....We went to an empty parking lot and my dad hit it and did 2 or 3 donuts.....and wouldn't ya know a cop rolls by 😂 pulls him over, and he says something to the effect of "Hey I live right next door in the apartments, just got this car, and wanted to have some safe fun with my kids real quick and go back home". If I remember correctly he got a warning and we got outta there lol! Good memories, RIP Pops! Miss you buddy ❤
I have a terminator, love it, but i love the sn95 cobra too. my first car was a v6 convertible 95 mustang and i always envied the cobra's during those mid-late 90 years
Gotta love the SN95/ NEWEDGE, I got a 2000 mustang gt convertible and I love the car, just received my catless x pipe for it. Thinking about taking it to ponys in the smokeys next year😊
4v’s will always have more character & sound better than coyotes. Take me back to the early 2000’s where I don’t hear ear bleeding straight piped s550’s around every corner
The SN-95 svt cobra is definitely underrated but it's not the most forgotten mustang but the '99 New Edge Mustang (Mule) boss 351 and the Concept New Edge Mustang FR500 I think is definitely the most forgotten mustang It's definitely undoubtedly the best mustang ever made imo.
Add the Super Stallion and the 10L Boss, if we're talking about non-production SN95's too, my man. The EDGE was just a sheet-metal swap from the SN-95.
The pop between gears reminds me of a mild sonic boom of a F22 Raptor. Fantastic Mustang. I had a 98 Convertible GT. Miss it. Still wondering how I can get that pop out of my 2014 GT Premium 😄
You'd make more power without the chambered mufflers. I've had to become Dr.Sawzall a few times at the tuning shop I was working at. I've even seen decent gains across the board after chopping off a 40 series off a stock Silverado.
I test drove one of these last summer. It was soooo slow and unresponsive. Felt like a tractor in every way. Went with an 03 Mach 1 which was SOOO much better
Eh, early years had leftovers from foxes and later years had earlier, usually weaker versions of the new edge engines. Very much a transition period for Ford to modular architecture. I'd rather just have a Fox or New Edge (I've had both). 96-98 Cobras are very good looking, I just wish Ford made them in more colors, I swear like 80% of them are white and the rest are red, black, or yellow.
Paused at 0:01 and by the tiny silhouette of the car that I can see on my PC, I'd have to guess that this is a Mustang Cobra R. EDIT: Nooooo, I was proven wrong instantly.
Y’all need to tell these followers to stop over pricing trash ass cars . this shit is getting out of hand instead yall show the glamour and glitz of being a car influencer then do your job and influence !
