My Instant Death Ability is Overpowered is… terrifying. And not just because the ability itself is so overpowered. Our protagonist doesn’t value the lives of others at all.
He is actually incredibly cautious in using his abilities. Numerous times he tells them to back down or else. But more importantly he's got the ability to judge hostile intent. Episode 7 had him use his powers only once after all. Then there's the doll user slave from the city arc. She gives up the information, she lives. But more over its like a gun. If he uses it people die. If he doesn't use it well, he and his loved ones might die. And he's grown up in an enviroment where death might be needed because people view him as such a massive threat. Its only because of Asaka that he's even remotely close to human morals. In fact the whole limiter system is something he's self induced. Which is why the scientist and the spies panicked about the first seal being released.
Yogiri is a psychopath/sociopath without any empathy and remorse as well as a huge hypocrite. He pretends to have some moral code and only use his powers as last resort, but as you said that's just not true. Especially jarring, considering he not only kills but ends the very existence of all these beings. Despite him having so much other possibilities, including (but not limited to) "just" killing them (only ending their current life) or knocking them out (ending their CURRENT consciousness). Fun fact: Yogiri isn't even that strong compared to other fictional universes. There are some huge design flaws if Yogiri really were supposed to beat every other fictional universe. Any proper capital-G God or toon character would mop the floor with him. Also it's quite ironic how Yogiri is said to be above fate and plot, yet he beasically only behaves the way he behaves just in order to make that stupid excuse plot happen at all. If he really just wanted to be home again, all he had to do was to end this stupid plot. So easy.
The dude lived in a locked cell for most of his life. What kind of emotions do you want him to have? Of course, he would come across as Psychopath due to his past. What would you be like in his place if you were the following, locked in a cell with certain times invisible creatures trying to kill you, the time you do kill someone to save the only person who is willing to be close to cause no one else would, and know that your very existence means instant to anyone and anything?
the point of Yogiri’s character kinda is to be a psychopath. (spoilers for the LN if you care) there’s a moment in one of the last volumes when Mitsuki (who’s basically the main antagonist, but he doesn’t get properly introduced until the 2nd to last volume) does a world-wide announcement that in the short time Yogiri’s been in this other world, he’s killed like 10% of the population. and most the victims weren’t even people who were directly trying to harm him; they were potential threats that had the CHANCE to become hostile (which is a really long story lmao) and all of Yogiri’s current companions (minus Tomochika & Mokomoko) immediately turn on him cause, y’know, he’s a mass murderer. Yogiri feels no remorse because he sees his act as self-defense. it makes the final two volumes really interesting because all of a sudden there’s all these people trying to kill Yogiri cause they have a vendetta against him. Instant Death is FAR from perfect (i know, ive invested way too much time in this story) but the MC’s questionable morals is, imo, one of the things the author executes pretty well. it’s a shame to criticize it.
