Shortly after landing upon the world of Medusa, the Primarch Ferrus Manus would battle against a great silver wyrm called the Asirnoth. But just what sort of beast could this wyrm have been?

Theory: it was a human replica of a tomb stalker. Pre-strife humans could find necrons arriving on medusa and with the technology they could try to restore/recreate it for their own purpose. This wyrm could be a human experiment with necron technology. The other necrons may be defeated by the pre-strife humans (the earthquakes may be an aftereffect of a planetwide mass destruction weapon) and the humans built a planetwide research center around the recovered necron technology.

judging from the phrasing used to describe the stone around it and the apparent bioluminescence and the creatures "living metal" body having properties similar to mercury, it's fairly likely that Medusa was some sort of Necron Tomb world and this creature was a guard of some kind, perhaps unique to the planet's dynasty.

One possibility is that the Asirnoth is a Necron Tomb Stalker prototype, hence it not being equipped with ranged weapons. As a prototype it would probably have malfunctioned, viewing all targets as threats to the tomb, resulting in the Necrons sealing it away on a remote planet.

Could Ferrus Manus have happened upon a kind of Necron menagerie? And this thing was a lone survivor? Might explain both its appearance and why it acted more like an animal. It was never meant to be a weapon. Just a kind of living display piece. Could explain also why it was locked away in a vault that could be so easily accessed. It was in storage and not seen as vital to the tomb's defense. So it just sat, in hibernation, until someone opened its container up. Someone who, of course, had no authority over it.

I don’t think Asirnoth is a true story. I believe it’s a story that others made up to explain Ferrus Manus’ arms, and Ferrus Mannus just went along with the story. In the Novel “Ferrus Manus: Gorgon of Medusa”, a medicae says to Ferrus that he does not believe the story. Ferrus replies: “A pity, that one was my favourite”. It seems to me that Ferrus is saying that Asirnoth is the favourite of the made up stories that explain Ferrus’ hands.

@40KTheories
@40KTheories 5 лет назад
While that is a good point, the 8th edition Iron Hands codex supplement (page 9) states that any Iron Hands who fail the chapter must journey into the lands of shadow to obtain a shard/scale of the Asirnoth to regain the trust of his brothers, and that over the past ten thousand years only a handful of battle brothers returned in triumph. The fact that some Iron Hands were able to obtain a piece of the Asirnoth would suggest that the Asirnoth's "corpse" is out there still, adding credence to the tale about Ferrus Manus killing it.
@thehungrygerman9434
@thehungrygerman9434 5 лет назад
40K Theories That does put a large hole in my theory. Perhaps the story of killing Asirnoth was true, but had been changed or embellished by retellings, and Ferrus was referring to a favourite retelling of the story. Keep up the great videos.

@MrKago1 5 лет назад
@@danielavalsangiacomo6691 Necrons themselves are not psychic, that is correct. In fact that's part of why they lost the first half of the War in Heaven. The C'Tan ARE psychic creatures however. Not just psychic, but immensely so. The power of a full fledged C'Tan would have rivaled the Emperor's, albeit probably still slightly less. The shards of C'Tan, which is what I was referring to, while immensely powerful, were just a fraction of a full, unshattered C'Tan. And of these "star gods", Magladroth the Void Dragon was the most powerful and said to be the one that gave Necrontyr the technology to become Necrons. A shard of the Void Dragon is believed to be imprisoned beneath Mars. None of the Necrons themselves have any psychic powers. That is why they allied with the C'Tan against the Old Ones.

What if it wasn't released at all, but rather activated? In that it wasn't imprisoned, but rather in stasis and only activated when someone not qualified tried interfacing with the technology.

if the necrons caught this how they find it and how they trap it

The mention of the forbidden artefact, that could resurrect people using cybernetics, might lend more credence to the Necron theory. It might well have been a Necron bio-transference unit.

It very well couldve been a ctan shard. Once free, the ctan may have wanted to get away asap. The only doubt i have is even though a primarch could destroy a ctan shard, why were there no reports of the powers of the ctan being used. 🤔

Ctan? Maybe the old ones? Idk, maybe even the Chaos gods in their long game. Seems like something Tzeentch or Slaanesh would make.

theres also the possibility that it is simply a critter like a fluke or flatworm hailing from an environment iwth more metal than organics could have been the discovery that led to the Nerontyr developing the "Living Metal"

Weaker shard of the void dragon imo. A tombstalker wouldn't need days to fight and kill for a primarch.

Also, can Necron tech phase through a stasis field if it's functioning properly?
@atilax6452

Ferrus was an idiot. As said in the video, the metal sounds like the same stuff the C'tan were covered with. Maybe it was an infant C'tan. Judging by the way the metal reacted to the primarch, it would seem to b, primarily, a protective covering by design. Not a construct. But, what was it covering? It sounds almost like a type of Tyranid, coated in necrodermis. "Necronid"?

@@atilax6452 you should watch Remleiz xeno biology videos. Basicly every second or third xeno creature which can be found as local fauna on every planet somehow have ties to the tyranids. And because of that fact the community meme grew that everything when in doubt is just successor of a protonid^^ It's pretty hilarious because basicly every wild animal somehow is a tyranid based creature in it's earliest form xD

he avoided being entirely shattered, small bits still broke off, and yes Big E put the biggest shard on Mars, and the IH and toaster boys have so much in common

Possible that the story was turned into legend, some specifics were dropped in order to make the story more mystical and legendary. Ferrus "Skostface" Manus might have taken some necron artifact, and instead of chasing the silver wyrm, the wyrm chased him. To be chased and running away because of failing to kill the wyrm sounds very cowardly for a Primarch, thus the story was altered to stoke humans need to feel superior over non-humans...
