Learning about all the weird consoles of the 90s is always very weird feeling to me as while I'm a 90s kid born quite early was I still born somewhere that didn't get much, was really small saw I wasn't welcome all these places, and I don't remember much either 😅. If I was born just 10 years earlier I'd probably know a lot more, but then I'd probably feel this about the 80s..!

Another aspect for Taito was that they had their FX-1 arcade platform based on modified Playstation hardware in development at around that same time. It became obvious to just port the FX-1 arcade games to the home Playstation without Taito needing their own console.

Taito had the publishing rights and development prowess to still have released this without the Satelite capabilities. It could have been a good console if they had removed that feature and focused on the masses, not the classes.

@@cbrmax4192 Of course. It was a CD console in the 90s.
@JudgmentStorm

@@cbrmax4192 The satellite link would have to be ditched, but I think they'd be able to have some success with an "arcade at home" CD console. Some games like Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands, Rastan, or Cadash wouldn't have much load time. That would kick in on F1/F2 ports like Metal Black or Pulirula. Still, I could put up with it for an arcade quality version.

When you think about it, we now have PSN and XBL where you can download game directly to your consoles. Its so weird to think this idea were already being thought of since the 80's.

No mentioning of The Fairyland Story from 1985 made this video a shocker. That game should have been shown. It's so cute and one of my favorites. It is always part of the Taito collection releases. Like on Nintendo switch; it's in a ten game set for Taito milestones.

My favourite arcade game in the early 1990s was Taito's 1988 arcade flight simulator Top Landing, which had quite extraordinary 3D polygon graphics for the era it was released, so I would theoretically have loved it if Taito had entered the console market. However, I suspect the 3D arcade games I wanted to play probably would have been too taxing on this hardware and the best I could have reasonably expected would have been a better home port of Taito's arcade superscaler Chase H.Q. than what we got on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive.

People seem to forget video game consoles here in the USA were sold primarily in the toy departments of department stores. They went to the electronics departments after the ps2.

Your comment about Taito for getting into the home video game market with their own system, is similar to why M-G-M Records was formed in 1947! M-G-M movies had records of their soundtracks were on other labels and wanting to have a piece of the recorded sound pie they started with Popular artists such as Kate Smith, Jimmy Dorsey and Hank Williams(Sr) for starters! Sounds almost similar to what Taito thought 🤔🤔😉😉

Honestly this console I think was a very interesting idea. It just was too ambitious for the time. The technology just wasn't really there. I mean it could have been done but it was too expensive of an endeavor.

You should talk about the Pokemon Center that was once in Manhattan, or the Nintendo World Store which replaced it or Super Nintendo World in Japan and/or California! Some Japan arcades and shops like for Neo Geo, Sega and Capcom would be fun to explore as well. Nintendo World for instance has and had all sorts of things on display. They recently _removed_ their Gulf War DMG Game Boy, I guess to silently address their drop in quality in regards to their hardware. That’s not a promising sign, but an interesting anecdote IMO. Hopefully they’ll reverse all of this. Nintendo can’t do things the ways that they are used to doing them moving forward, smart phones alone changed the expectations regarding durability of handheld devices, a long time ago. Great stuff, as always!

It took the failures and limited successes, going all the way back to the Intellivision and Atari VCS, to bring online technology to where it is now. The Wowwow was ambitious, but Taito were probably right to pull the plug when they did. Still, one has to wonder what the system might have been capable of had it be finished, even without the satellite component.

Reminds me a bit of the NEC PC Engine CD in terms of graphics. Even the console has a bit of similarity to the TurboDuo 2-in-1 console (I can't remember what that specific model was called in Europe--I'm American, and we called it the TurboDuo here. 😅)

I love your videos. And I think this channel is criminally underrated.....You always have such interesting topics. You are clever, very funny, knowledgeable, informative, and you are just a pleasure to look at and listen to. And I hope you don't find me saying that offensive. I am only trying to compliment you. I also know that its not easy for women to carve out a lane in making gaming content because there are so many people who want to tell you you are a fake gamer girl, and all that kind of BS........and it's really admirable how you work so hard to keep putting out content, and it's obvious you aren't a "fake gamer girl". If you did not have the passion for this topic, you would not be making such great content, and you would not have so many videos. Being a content creator is much more difficult than the average person thinks. And I'm basically just trying to thank you for all that you have done. You are genuinely inspiring. And I hope more people find this channel because there is a lot to enjoy here.

You've used some selective resources because he's from Odessa and Odessa is in Ukraine. He'd be Russian if you still class Ukraine as part of Russia... but only one country and a few pariah states believe that.

I think you may be right, the jump from the 16 bit consoles to the Saturn and PlayStation was probably the biggest jump in generation consoles ever. The PS1 beat off the Saturn and held off the N64 and Dreamcast, until the PS2 entered into the market. The PS2 takes it though as the games were fantastic and it helped kick off DVD’s as well.

Early 90's was a horrible time to release a new console. Nintendo was the only one to release a successful console during that crazy period, although Sega did release the Game Gear and had at least some mild success with it.
