Mortarion's adoptive father was able to live where even the Primarch of the Death Guard legion struggled. Just who or what was this man?

What if a Dark Eldar humonculus sold his soul to Nurgle in exchange for escaping Slaanesh's hunger? Then, after Mortarion's apotheosis, he was gifted his father's soul by Nurgle?
@trollzynisaacjohan1793
@trollzynisaacjohan1793 6 лет назад
Dark Pariah well nurgle has isha which is evident nurgle can claim Eldar souls. Really any chaos god can claim a sentient creature with most of its soul intact (necron barely even have a warp presence but can still deny psychic powers?). Arha Phoenix lord of the incubi and striking scorpions is a heretic (he is described to burn with the dark light of chaos so probably sold his to khorne in return for protection from slaanesh heresy.

@kingbaldwiniv5409
@kingbaldwiniv5409 6 лет назад
It is not confirmed that Mortarion is a Daemon Prince. He has gifts, but lacks the decay and bloated infection. Also, the lack of the warp does not lessen him. This indicates that he is not a daemon prince yet.
@LordSethize
@LordSethize 6 лет назад
King Baldwin IV That's not right. He is mentioned as Daemon Primarch in essentially every mention of him in the Death Guard codex, not to mention the fact that he was banished to the Warp by Draigo using his "real name." A Daemon prince doesn't always look the same. Magnus is red for one, while Tzeentch's colour is mostly blue.

Necrontyr never raised the dead and in the short story called Grandfathers Gift by Guy Haley Mortarion captures the soul of his adoptive father and says that he is a very powerful pysker to last this long. So, definitely not Necrontyr

I could see hyim being a dark eldar like was said in the vid, and it has been shown that Nurgle being quite old compared to Slaanesh might be able to protect the souls of Eldar/dark Eldar that fallow him. He was able to take the Eldar goddess from her before she could consume her like the other Eldar gods. Though i will say that like with the Laer it would be fun to see some more races that are fully devoted to specifically just one of the chaos gods. Mostly to see what kind of creatures they would become thru such devotion to that chaos god.

Every number related to Mortarian involves a mathematical operation of seven and two. 7*2=14th Legion 7^2=49 steps of his Deathshroud Bodyguards I think it's not just a reference to the obvious number of Nurgle, but that the repeated usage of the number two seems to hint at another reference of which I am unaware.
@Daimon-X

Spoiler Alert! - - - - - - - - - - - The largest of the clocks was the second item. Occupying the central portion of the room, and twice the height of the daemon primarch, it had three faces and stood on three legs worked with the tripartite symbol of Nurgle. The legs did not obviously represent those of any kind of beast, fantastical or otherwise, but were made so that it crouched over the floor, giving the impression it was about to strike. Its faces were a metre across, and each had seven hours and three hands with pointers made in the shape of flies. The time was approaching the clock’s midnight. A massive scythe on a chain served as a pendulum. It swished across the space beneath the clock. Reality sighed as the blade cut into the very stuff of creation, and every tick-tock was the death of something fine. The third item was contained within the great clock. Atop the timepiece was a huge bell jar, covered all over with arcane symbols. The lower half extended into the space between the triple faces. The upper half made a lesser dome below the greater. There was something inside: a prisoner. Its presence explained why metal tubes were attached to glass valves in the jar. They allowed certain poisons to be introduced, though not to kill. The jar was a device of torment. The thing inside the jar was no longer alive, but it could suffer. Streamers of corposant moved behind the glass. As Mortarion entered the room, they coalesced, becoming a monstrous alien face. Even in death, the soul’s psychic potency was great enough to stop a mortal man’s heart by sight alone, and then raise up his corpse to serve the creature, but to Mortarion the killing scorn it broadcast was a balm. ‘Good day, father,’ he said. The primarch’s voice was ghostly. A deep, sighing whisper. For a thousand years, Mortarion had pursued the soul of his adoptive father through the warp with packs of baying beasts. Over the landscapes of insanity and through the kingdoms of dreams, the pursuit had gone on. Mortarion had turned his face entirely from the mortal realm in those years, so bent was he on having his final vengeance upon the xenos creature that had adopted him, used him and had been slain by the Emperor when Mortarion had failed to kill him. Imprisoning his alien father’s soul had brought Mortarion a modicum of peace the Emperor had denied him. The hunt was long ago, and the novelty of the prisoner had worn off. The lord of death paid no heed to his foster father’s glowering and went to the clock’s pendulum. An extract from Dark Imperium by Guy Haley.

His father was some sort of Space Skaven. But really, whatever the species, it's clear to me that he was, at some point, a worshiper of Nurgle. I don't think any xenos species that hasn't been ruled out (eldar) is capable of surviving in Barbaras' atmosphere like he had, this leaves only one conclusion in my mind; along with this, the fact that Mortarion would later become a Nurgle worshiper himself does, in a roundabout "fated from the start" sort of way, suggest it was Nurgle who placed him on Barbaras in the first place - as Papa Nurgle does have a heart of gold, and it would make sense for him to put anything under his care into the care of his own servants.
@KimKhan
@KimKhan 6 лет назад
I would have guessed some Abhumans, people who made purposeful genetic alterations to themselves to survive in the high spires and take on a "twisted nobility" status, but with the new canon, probably vampiric xenos. But either way, they would have a baroque alien vampire style - like in Vampire Hunter D. That's my take on it anyway.

Is it possible that an eldar that fell to Nurgle would have their soul captured by him upon death, instead of being consumed by Slaanesh? Nurgle is much older, and since he technically represented forces of nature that every living creature is affected by, I'd assume he's stronger than Slaanesh also, so wouldn't he be able to lay claim to the soul and keep she who thirsts at Bay?

She Who Thirsts doesn't automatically claim every Eldar soul, since the soul needs to be within the reach of the warp or one of Slaanesh demons, she/he/it just very zealously hunts/seeks them. Hell even then either of other 3 gods can fight Slaanesh for an eldars soul just for shit and giggles but choose not to since it's not worth the effort/trouble, and I wouldn't put it beyond Nurgle to throw a fart between that eldar's soul and Slaanesh just to please Mortarion, after all Papa Nurgle loves all. If use of Spirit stones is involved as you said then the soul is basically rape-free as long as the stone itself is free, and I can see Mortarion picking up the stone or storing the corpse and unknowingly the stone with it somewhere for later handling.

I think the overlords were a slightly evolved version of the Necrontyr that somehow escaped their world albeit poorly and crash landed on barbarus just as civilization collapsed after the age of strife and since leaving their poisonous world they slowly became stronger and bigger kind of like superman in a way, now I'm not sure where they got their psyker powers, but I assume it's either because A: the random warp storms may have mutated them through the generations causing them to receive the psyker gene, or B: they obtained their psyker powers when they were among the humans and the power just rubbed off onto them, I think the former is more likely. The reason I think they are Necrontyr is both because of their obsession with death and having power over others seeing how they were jealous of the old ones for having immense power over them during their first violent encounter with one another, plus the Necrontyr are pretty much extinct at this point, they are the Necrons now and thus have no way of reproducing.

It could be an interesting expansion/retcon if the father is a Dark Eldar. I never liked that all Eldar souls are instantly eaten. Hunted and Eaten is great lore and true to the grim dark, but instantly eaten is so quick and final that it kind of kills the fun. Retconing it and having souls have a slight chance of escape would enable a more colorful and grim lore. I mean what sound more interesting? 1-They are eaten instantly. or 2-Hunted, tortured, and slowly devoured by Slannesh and its demon hordes who gain perverse pleasure and dark sustenance from their pain and growing madness.

Mortarion claims his adoptive fathers soul in the warp in the short story Grandfathers Gift by Guy Haley so since his soul was captured we know he wasn't devoured by Slaanesh. No Eldar soul can escape the clutch of the Dark Prince

John Evans I’m pretty sure it’s explicitly stated he wasn’t human

It be interesting if the species of Mortarion's asshole adoptive father turned out to have been plotting their revenge aganst the Imperium for driving them off Barburus. This would also probably cause Mortarion to hunt the ancient xenos species that he thought driven extinct millennia ago. 40k equivalent to the Vampire Counts. That's my guess. It'd be awesome to see something that.
