Very cool cave. Here in Oregon in the county of Malhuer which is in Eastern Oregon right next to the Idaho border, we have a lot of cool caves in our District that I have checked out myself when I used to work for the Bureau of Land Management for over 12 years. Needless to say the caves I've been to have been used by indigenous peoples. I'm an part time archeologists and geologists and now i get out more to explore new areas in our District now that I'm retired. Some much to learn from past cultures.
That’s awesome, Easter Oregon is so rich in its indigenous history. A-lot of the caves in the Mojave have been exposed to lots of people and unfortunately not always cared for as they should be. My goal is to find and share some of the lessor known caves and parts that are found much deeper in the desert. Thanks for watching the show and enjoy your beautiful area
Check out the Utube channel "Abandoned & Forgotten Places". That U-tuber has some great vistas that he has on camera and the mine adets that he explores are similar to caves Ricardo.
@@uberkloden Hi there Fred. Yes and no. Late 80s a few caves were looted however, those people were caught and prosecuted. Since 93 up to late 90s looters stopped cause of volunteers that stated working for the Bureau of labor management and reported any unusual activities on public lands. I worked for the Bureau since 1977 to 1995 as a wildland fire fighter. I do know people that still work there and I keep informed as to what's new rules they may have now. My wife and I enjoy camping out in our area. There's so many places to camp out in our district which is the second biggest district in the state. Other than people from Idaho not to may others come to Malhuer county.
This is definitely not what I know as 'The Shaman's Cave' or 'The Rattlesnake Shaman's Cave' in the Rodman Mountains. The one I'm familiar with can be a little difficult to drive to the parking area (in a 4X4). Once you get there, it's only about a 125 yard very easy walk to the cave The cave is in a steep walled basalt canyon that has LOTS of petroglyphs in it. And at the entrance to 'The Shaman's Cave', there are squiggly line petroglyphs, perhaps rattlesnakes, on the rock face. Your video was still interesting and I enjoyed it.
i agree this is def not the shamans cave i went to. shamans cave had a bunch of "scoop" marks on the ground. also the circle "window" is almost a perfect circle. there is a little wall of stacked rocks right at the opening
Yes, I was there over the winter at Surprise and Deep Tanks. Shaman cave right above Surprise Tank, with rattlesnakes above the entrance. Amazing place along the ends of the lava flow.
@@theinstructor2687 sorry for the delay in getting back to you one year later😎 I somehow did not see this comment. However, that sounds frigging awesome and I’ll have to see if I can find it. All the best thanks again for watching.
@@themojaveguide No apology necessary. Hopefully, you do go check out the 'The Rattlesnake Shaman's Cave' in the Rodman Mountains. It's a very cool spot. You should visit it and do a video. I'd certainly watch it.
Cool little adventure man. 👍 Speaking of a Shaman’s cave…crazy story…I was out hiking with some buddies, from church of all places, when me and one other buddy decided to push further up a mountain to see if we could make it to the top. We still had quite a ways to go up a fairly steep pitch so no one else was interested in going. Anyway, as we got with maybe 500ft from the summit, I noticed a dark opening slightly off to the side of where we were headed. I assumed it must have been a cave and convinced my friend to go check it out with me. Well, it definitely was a cave…a creepy little cave at that. It was probably 5ft tall and burrowed into the rock maybe 20ft. This cave however turned out to be somebody’s satanic little club house. No body was in there at the time but it did look like people had been there fairly recently. There was tons of black smoke staining everywhere with pentagrams scratched in the rock all over the place. Large red half burned candles were placed on different little outcroppings around the interior walls. Also, there was also a fairly big pentagram drawn in red paint on a portion of the wall along with some words written in red that we couldn’t understand and below all that was a fire pit. The fire pit was only maybe two feet around. It looked like it was used for rituals as opposed to keeping warm as there wasn’t a lot of wood ash in it but there were lots of little bones and black looking burned hair. Needless to say we were shocked and a little creeped out so we did what any good Christian kids would have done. We smashed and threw out all there candles, crossed out all their pentagrams and scratched crosses in next to the scratched out pentagrams. We crossed out the words we couldn’t read and scratched in “Jesus loves you.” Next we threw all the little rocks lining the fire pit down the mountain with the half burned candles and kicked all the little bones out of the cave down the mountain as well. Lastly, we prayed against any evil activity going on in that cave. This was way back in the early 90s before everyone had a cell phone that could take pictures but I can still remember this like yesterday. Job complete, my buddy and I laughed and headed back down the mountain to tell our buddies. Looking back, I don’t recommend that you do we what we did if you stumble upon someone’s demonic little hideout. I’ve had pretty shitty luck since then and if a satanist who used to hangout in that cave happens to reads this…sorry, my bad. Lol
Dang, trashing someone else's religion because it's different than yours while defacing public lands? You are really lining up that Christian stereotype!
Great Video, Thanks for Sharing! We've been going out to Johnson Valley for over 30 years, It's one of my family's favorite places to enjoy the beautiful outdoors. 💖🪨
Thank you for the kind words, I love Johnson Valley. This spring should be amazing out there with all of the water that we got. I’m looking forward to seeing the wild flowers. Thanks again for watching
There is an old Indian Lookout cave with hieroglyphs somewhere to the N/E of Cadiz Summit. I think I sent you the wrong direction on a comment in a previous video. I remember my Grandfather tearing across the desert, no roads, right through the sagebrush with his old Caddy. He took it everywhere. The caves I am talking about overlook a wide low, plain from a perch about 75 feet up. Lots of petroglyphs on the walls. Some of us technical climbed up the face of the cliff to get to the overlook only to discover it was easily accessible by walking around to the back of the mountain and just taking a trail up.
I'm glad for you that you found the cave. Next time, maybe, consult some topo maps to find the better trail. Since you only have a go-pro, it can only focus to a point, but you did not check, or atleast infront of the camera, if there were any petroglpyhs. The blackened area you noted on the above rock appears to be desert varnish or patina, not smoke. Your a lucky fellow to have the time to go searching in the remotness of the Mojave. I would have liked to have taken the walk with you, but you captured some of the terrain and scope for us. Thank you.
@@treasuretom13 thanks so much for checking out the video. Sorry for the day delay in getting back to you. Are usually take this summer off to go adventuring. I should be posting some more videos soon. Thanks again for taking the time to watch the video.
Thanks for checking out the video, I’m am not sure what the 411 locations are. If you can elaborate a bit I am curious to see what they are and would love to do a show on it
Ok, just found it on RU-vid, I’ll check it out and get back to you on when I can fit one in. I have about 6-8 shows in the works right now and I have to finish up at least 3 that are a priority. However I am working on a series that will hopefully intrigue you if you enjoy shows like missing 411
That’s what I thought, I’m seriously considering going back for an afternoon to hang out and explore a bit more. It’s not a bad hike as long as you don’t take the long way around 😊
Me too, unfortunately, there just wasn’t any and I didn’t have enough or time to continue looking in the general area. I am about to release an episode however that has rock art on a whole different level at a cave that is much more remote
Smart move, I have never been on that trail but knowing when to say when is the difference between making it out and not. Thanks for watching the show hope to enjoyed it.
I am super interested in exploring these areas. I am very familiar with the Old Woman Mountains and have not had a good chance to thoroughly explore them, I will be making a couple of episodes in the future in the area
Next time be prepared for an over-nighter ....and make a movie of the sunset and night sky - then sunrise! Bring a lady/model friend (I used to go to Joshua Tree with models) camping and photography! Always had a blast.
I will tell you about some really cool big caves to Explorer we used to explore them more kids Silver City New Mexico the old courthouse upon the mountain
Have you been into the big cave with the picnic table in it that is alongside the road in Lucern ? It is in the backyard of an abandoned house last time I went through. It is on the right after passing through Lucern headed to apple valley. It faces east
@@tonysoaresnativeclays1434 not that I remember however I think when we did that climb we weee pretty hot because it was a summer afternoon and we were just out for exercise. I’ll have to get back there and check it out

I may have missed it, however I am about to publish an episode that will be full of Smoke art, pictographs made from scraping smoke away from the roof of a cave. Stay tuned

Don't try this at home but most definitely be at home if you are going to try this. Be at home wherever you are on planet earth. Don't try this at home is another subject for a philosophical inquiry.
Anyone can appreciate the effort... but I would've like to seen a more of the cave and a little less of you... I had a glimpse of what one might think is a door... and it's this would be the kind of place for such a thing... Yes, we followed you up there... would like seen the hole, and other holes up there on top... that knoll you were standing reminded me of "The Planet of the Apes"...
Hi Freeman, dully noted, I will keep that in mind going forward. I was running out of light unfortunately but I will try to make it Bach and get a better shot of the location. Thanks for watching and for your feedback
@@themojaveguide It is an intriguing place and I saw much that would make it a place worth a thorough investigation... looking forward to your videos on the area...
I don't. know what it was, but I'm sure there was some biology going on with that cave. I hope y'all will check out mud fossil university on youtube. You'll never look at rocks the same.
Shamanisim in our tribe is the only spiritual belief, Siberia, sub Arctic Alaska County. It involves, worship-communication with dead, and animisim. Animisim is the belief that all things animals, plants have a living spirit. All Native American Indians, Eskimos are Animists. This is pre colonization, Christianity. I would not visit a cave I knew shamanistic ceremonies were practiced.
There are bears in our deserts, this area borders the San Bernardino mountain range. There was actually a bear killed on the highway in Morono Valley a year or two ago, and there was a bear xing sign installed there as a result.
