OK, I watched ALL the episodes of "The Nanny" on RU-vid, from the first to the last, and I don't remember EVER seeing this clip. Was this episode not included in the syndication package?
Wow, how cool is that! I love both, The Nanny and I Love Lucy!! This was done very well. One could easily think that Fran is in the actual Lucy scene :)
I have watched reruns of the nanny atleast a dozen times over the years and have never seen this clip. It will always say in the guide that fran talks to lucy but they have never shown that clip in the reruns when it was on lifetime, tvland or nick...anyone know why ?
Syndicated versions of shows usually cut some scenes for time, in order to allow for more commercials. That scene, while amusing, was not really important to the story, so that it the one that was chosen to be cut.
The Second Season of The Lucy Show, Lucy's follow up series to I Love Lucy, is being relesed on DVD July 13, 2010! It's available for pre-order on amazon! And it's in Color!
Somebody once said that all modern day sitcoms are derivative of either THE HONEYMOONERS or I LOVE LUCY. The Nanny was definitely derivative of I Love Lucy, no doubt about it - ROSEANNE, ALL IN THE FAMILY and MARRIED WITH CHILDREN were more like the HONEYMOONERS. Al Bundy was like Archie Bunker but without the prejudice (Al had black friends). Archie Bunker was like Ralph Kramden but with the prejudice.
this is sooooo much fun, omg even though the nanny will never measure up to i love lucy the nanny is one of those good follow ups to it rather than copying it the nanny is truly something special
I am glad to read that Fran reminds you Lucille. I knew Fran before Lucy and when I saw IL, I thought that Fran certainly has Lucy as her idol or sth like that. Lucille is th only one and the best, but Fran is damn funny as well :-) Actually I am not able to think of more comediennes - these two and Rosalind Russell.
Speaking of clips on the Nanny which have never appeared in syndication, does anyone remember on the episode where Fran temporarily quits and ends up working at a department store when C.C. runs out of the dressing room and trips after Maxwell makes the announcement over the intercom? I remember seeing it when it first aired but it's never appeared on syndication. I know it exists because right before the scene cuts to black you can hear C.C. scream "NO!!!".
A very clever bit here, along with the ones that incorporated Fran & Co into the "Dick Van Dyke Show" and "Dynasty" settings. The "Nanny" scribes really earned their paychecks.
I remember watching this the night it aired! As far as I can tell it's never been released on any of the DVDs or anywhere, so thank you for letting me see this again!
It could because of rights issues. CBS owns the right to I Love Lucy. Maybe they decided to allow The Nanny to use that scene only the times when it aired on CBS. As I recall, that episode aired during the season that the network was promoting its 50th anniversary, so they had various specials and special episodes, such as The Nanny, taking part in the promotion.
watching on TV Land, in the description it says Fran chats with Lucy, but they cut this out. Glad it's on here, because I didn't see the original airing, but have seen this episode several times. I thought it odd they even put this in the description if they were just cutting it out!
OMFG I love I Love Lucy and The Nanny. They are almost alike in everyway. Though, the Nanny has little quotes from ILL. And there ends the similarites. :P
the nannie was just an updated version of the nanny. just think, the whole showbiz accent husaband thing, there always trying to meet celebrities, wait another 10 years and you can do it again
Fran: You married a guy with a cute accent I'm marring a guy with a cute accent, you're guys in show biss and my guys in show biss, you guys sleep in twin beds and there ends the similarities
@onlyme114 The Nanny over the years has been butchered to death in order to save time for advertisements and Nick at Night is infamaous when it comes to that. If you rent or purchase the DVDs you'll see it in it's entirety.
i love how ppl thumb this down just becus they asked who lucy was!..WTF u ppl? a person cant ask a damn question? believe it or not there r ppl who havent heard of her! geeze!
if you watch the making of the nanny, she says that shes grown up watching Lucy and wanted the nanny's Fran Fine to have the same physical comedy as Lucy! MY MOM AND I LOVE LUCY AND THE NANNY, except im a bigger fan of Fran and The Nanny than she is, BUT WE BOTH LOVE EM'!!!!!!!!!!! SUPPORT CANCER SCHMANCER AND VOTE FRANCINE JOY DRESCHER SENATOR TO BE (hopefully!) NEXT YEAR, (2010 OR 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) FRAN+LUCY, FRAN+LUCY, FRAN+LUCY, FRAN+LUCY, FRAN+LUCY, FRAN+LUCY ROCK!!!!!!!!!
oi vey, Fran was in front of a green screen, then they edited out Vivian Vance from the original I Love Lucy episode and replaced her with Fran. I don't know why I'm bothering to explain this, except that the fact that this confused comment is sitting out there unanswered was bugging me.
it can't be her because lucille ball died in 1989 and that's 4 years before the nanny aired on tvand that women looks so muck like i may have my suspicions!
