FNF co-host Alan K. Rode and producer Mark Fleischer introduce The Narrow Margin (1952) at the 2024 NOIR CITY: Hollywood festival at the restored Egyptian Theatre.
Fleischer, son of the picture's director Richard Fleischer, reminisced about his accomplished father and grandfather (famed animator Max Fleischer) while discussing the initial film programmed at the Egyptian's First Annual Festival of Film Noir in 1999 as NOIR CITY: Hollywood celebrated its 25th anniversary.

He had an interesting directing career. Armored Car Robbery and Narrow Margin are great and I have a soft spot for Soylent Green which I’ve seen many times starting as a kid in the 70s seeing it on tv. The Last Run is a good one with George C. Scott.

Those early noirs are his best films imho.

Well-plotted little film. And I'm a sucker for anything set in a train. Sure looks luxurious now, with all those bygone amenities & service. And didn't the ladies dress up! - a fur jacket for dinner in the dining car in one scene. One could write on a desk a telegram and have it delivered from the train. These were placed in a cylinder and dropped from the window when train stopped or even passed a station. The poor stationmaster was obliged to catch the loop with a stick! Then message taken inside station to telegraph operator. Bet you thought there was a telegraph office in the train. No, needs telegraph wires. 🛤️ Actually, I took a train to watch Noirs - LA Metrolink to downtown Union Station (a good noir was shot there) & the subway to Hollywood Film Noir Festival 2024. Watching a film noir with a train in it while actually on a train myself is my dream. And bring a cocktail please, waiter!
