Indeed, Matt went into the crowd several times, singing directly to fans, posing for selfies, taking selfies with their own phone, recording video with their own phones, and even brought up a fan's phone on stage to video himself performing the song 'Day I Die'!

The National was originally scheduled to perform 2 shows in Berkeley a year ago in October (with Daughter as the opener), but they were forced to postpone the dates due to the hazardous air quality caused by the North Bay fires in 2017. Big Thief is the opener for the 1st show and Cat Power for the 2nd show.
Matt: This song is called 'Don't Swallow the Crap'... wait, no... sorry, that was a Freudian... lol
Matt: Aaron and I had a long-going debate about the origin/inspiration of this song (Fake Empire), and it has been going on for years, and only a couple nights ago I realized he was right.
