I could totally see the NBA moving towards the new airless ball. I think the entire idea was that since it was airless, the air temperature, humidity, air density inside, etc. would never affect the balls performance, and it would ALWAYS perform the exact same game after game wherever you play

Temperature point is bs as plastic will too behave differently. One potentially good thing about this ball is that it's gonna have better grip. Regular balls gets covered with sweat and can be slippery. Modern balls manage it to some extent but not 100%. But since this one has holes in there is less surface for sweat to stay on. It won't be a common ball though as it definitely will be less long living and more expensive and if u play with it outside shit gonna get stuck inside.

@adamstruwing8509
@adamstruwing8509 Год назад
with the weight of the basketball and the distance it travels, the magnus effect plays a negligible role in shooting. with a tennis ball becoming a wiffle ball, it has a different path because the spin is much faster and the ball is much lighter. With the basketball, you're really limited as to how much spin you can put on it anyways. The only difference putting a backspin on a basketball has is maybe how straight it travels, so i wouldn't expect to see that much of a difference

That airless basketball could be a standard in the future because it is more independent from the pressure inside which minutely changes per ball. They only need to improve it: cover the whole thing, they can use a transparent/translucent material if they want to retain the aesthetic. Those hoops seem great but what about rims? Cool gadget for people that shoot for hours. This basketball seems fancy too, but on the contrary to normal and natural 🏀... Its about the feeling and slight deflation of air in the ball to make it work well enough. People often tends to pump ball too much, was doing the same thing in ball that had air leakage but usually there's some threshold to not make ball rock solid and too bouncy. And this ball... I really don't know what to think about it because its built different.

Less resistance. It changes the entire dynamic of the game. In a bad way. Just keep a regular basketball you maniacs

imagine if we had like jerseys built with a camera in the material and you could have your VR hooked up to a player whilst they're playing and not just a seat in the arena

Wonder if I’ll see that new basketball hoop at a nearby RecCenter or gym. I like the APS shoes. Also want to get my hands on that new basketball

the ball would be perfect for youth, Middle, High School and College (hey they all use metal bats in base ball in those age groups and then go wood in the pros) they never get flat and they will last longer than a leather/ synthetic leather ball . plus out doors this is gonna kill the casual basket ball business. I do wonder if they will be able to make a baseball like this but not sure if it will withstand that impact from the bat.

The idea of having a futuristic basketball is great, but it still has many issues: Stones, courts with holes, as someone else mentioned Aerodynamics. Something more flexible to these problems will be invented quick lmfao

Futuristic NBA would have sensors in NBA players shoes and on the court even the players uniforms with have sensors that could sense if a player received enough contact for the foul or did the player overreact to no contact. Sensors on the court and in the shoes can automatically show if 3pt shot is behind the line or if a player steps out of bounce. It could even show cool reaction times. A funny idea would be a sensor in the ball, so if the ball is still in a players hand or even touched after the shot clock expires the ball pops like a bubble or a balloon.
