Im a black Bama (native born in Alabama) by birth, love this tribute by The Neville Bros for sister Rosa Parks to all black people universally. We are One no matter where ur from. We are the indigenous people of the planet earth, of which all other peoples evolved...
Je viens de Suisse et je remercie ma prof d'anglais pour m'avoir fait découvrir cette chanson je la cherchais depuis un petit moment, maintenant je vais violer le bouton replay :)
This just randomly popped into my head and I haven't heard it since I was in 4th grade in '04. We would sing this in class and scream the last line, such a great song and lesson to teach the kids.
Art Neville passed away on July 22nd, 2019 at his home in New Orleans, he was 81 years old... He was a founding member of the Neville Brothers and the Meters. Known as 'Poppa Funk', Neville was a staple of the New Orleans music scene, who helped shape the city’s signature sound... The Meters, formed in 1965, were among the originators of funk, performing their own songs as well as backing artists including Lee Dorsey, Robert Palmer, and Doctor John. They were honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018... In 1977, Neville founded the Neville Brothers along with his brothers Aaron, Charles, and Cyril. This was my favorite song when I was about 6. I was humming this song at work today. So I had to come and listen to it. We didn't have cable TV growing up so until today I had no idea there was even a video. I still love this song so much. Especially now. I'm going through it y'all. We all are. I'm getting into confrontations with racist family members on Facebook. I'm very much for Black Lives Matter. As a kid I didn't realize how racist my family was. Now I'm an adult and George Floyd was murdered in cold blood and all they can say is how racism doesn't really exist. So now to keep my sanity and my positive state of mind I have had to delete them all from my social media. Seeing as they all live in England this means I have cut off all contact. It makes me feel so alone that my family has refused to stand with me in this fight against injustice and racism.
I'm really sorry you had to go through that. I've had similar struggles with loved ones in the last couple years. So much that I might have like one or two conservative-leaning friends left, period, but fortunately they aren't ardent trumpers or anything like that.
Just found out that DEC 1 is also Rosa Park Day. She more than deserves it. She was the primary spark that started the Civil Rights Movement. Another Inspiration.
I remember hearing this in music class in elementary school. We would be on our best behavior so we could listen to this at the end of class. Wow brings back so many memories.
My Granny introduced me to this song as a young kid and this inspired me (who is pale skin, (originally) blonde hair and blue eyes) to do a report on Rosa Parks in front of my 2nd grade class at a predominantly Black school. None of the other kids knew who she was at the time
Never heard this one before! I remember as a small child, running down the aisle and getting on that big seat in the back. My mom was upset for some reason and made me come sit up closer to the front, lol. thanks for the memory NB
How can you not feel that bazz 🎸 the brothers harmony😌🥺 It was decided all God's children would walk until segregation was brought 2 it's knees and we obtained freedom and equality yeahh 😆
We sang this at my elementary school, way back when for Black history month. I feel that despite everything this song was so powerful. I still remembered the chorus to type it into google to find them. It's like 2 decades and some since then but I still remember
My fav song by Neville Bros. I was 8 or 9 when I first heard this, during Black Awareness Month, I learned some history, and learned how AWESOME some people are--people who changed history all together.
Sister Rosa December 1st, 1955 Our freedom movement came alive And because of Sister Rosa you know We don't ride on the back of the bus no more Sister Rosa she was tired one day After a hard day on her job When all she wanted was a well deserved rest Not a scene from an angry mob A bus driver said, "Lady, you got to get up 'Cause a white person wants that seat" But Miss Rosa said, "No, not no more I'm gonna stay right here and rest my feet" Thank you Miss Rosa, you are the spark You started our freedom movement Thank you Sister Rosa Parks Thank you Miss Rosa, you are the spark You started our freedom movement Thank you Sister Rosa Parks Now, the police came without fail And took Sister Rosa off to jail And 14 dollars was her fine Brother Martin Luther King knew it was our time The people of Montgomery sat down to talk It was decided all God's children should walk Until segregation was brought to its knees And we obtain freedom and equality, yeah Thank you Miss Rosa, you are the spark You started our freedom movement Thank you Sister Rosa Parks Thank you Miss Rosa, you are the spark You started our freedom movement Thank you Sister Rosa Parks So we dedicate this song to thee For being the symbol of our dignity Thank you Sister Rosa Thank you Miss Rosa, you are the spark You started our freedom movement Thank you Sister Rosa Parks Thank you Miss Rosa, you are the spark You started our freedom movement Thank you Sister Rosa Parks Thank you Miss Rosa, you are the spark You started our freedom movement Thank you Sister Rosa Parks Thank you Miss Rosa, you are the spark You started our freedom movement Thank you Sister Rosa Parks Thank you Miss Rosa, you are the spark You started our freedom movement Thank you Sister Rosa Parks
Isn't that Spike Lee's sister as Rosa Parks? Sure looks like her... Never heard this until today, and it's timely as yesterday was the 68th anniversary of Ms. Parks saying, "NAH!" Beautiful!
This song has been a fever dream I vividly remembered hearing only once on KCRW radio Los Angeles back in the late 80s. All these years later I could still remember that catchy chorus enough to find it again
Lasts I ever heard this song was back in 2011 when I was in 3rd grade. My music teacher showed us this song and it was quite a banger, the whole class would sing to it.
My Sister shared this awesome song with myself and my boys this year and I am sending it into his 2nd grade class for the movements they are learning about!!! Love it!!! Thank you Sister Rosa
Who will be the next "Sister Rosa"? Who will say ,"Enough!". Sister Rosa was very brave and Dr. King stood behind her. Who will be the next "Dr. King"? Who is brave enough to take a bullet to start the fire? Be the change! Practice at every opportunity.
I absolutely HAD to learn this bass line. This is the 2nd incarnation of the bass line. The newer one is even funkier than this one. But I learned the 1st one. That was the most complicated. Made me sweat. I LOVE THIS SONG!!!
