I've wanted to visit Morocco for a long time so when BMW invited me to join a trip to Marrakesh for the launch of the all new BMW X3, it didn't take long to think about it! Now in its third generation, the X3 30d xDrive that I find myself driving is more than capable of the journey to the Atlas mountains on an exploration of a breathtaking area. It makes me think though, will there be a time I decide to purchase such an SUV?

Wow you were here in Morocco i'm one of the first subscribing funs how did you find the cars atmosphere here in Morocco even if we don't see supercars as much as you can in London or Dubai or Monaco
The X3 is a fantastic car. I had one for 24hr test drive & drove a Q5 the following day and much preferred the BMW. It's luxurious, quick enough for an suv(which is not what suv's are all about) and looks better in the flesh than in video /pics. More understated class than flashy in your face. So I guess it depends on what you are looking for. It probably is overpriced but if it fits what you are looking for it is a really good choice.
Shmee, I don't think you understand BMWs. They're not like flashy Mercedes. I'd say their closer to Range Rover in that they evolve the design. Because they're not flashy and on the conservative side, I love most BMWs (except for the 6 Series). I like timeless elegance. I like the fact that the interior isn't busy. The exterior grows on you as you begin to notice the lines (I especially like the looking at the X3 from the back, slightly to the side). One last thing I like about BMWs are the thoughtful luxuries it has. A very nice (and convenient) luxury is triple flash. When you want to pass a car using you signal, you press it down once and it flashes your turn signal three times. Anyway, my thoughts on the matter.

I think your being very kind Shmee about the samey looking X3 there's very little difference for your £60,000 pounds. your so much more excited and thrilled about your Fabulous Room and I must say it's very luxurious and I'm really pleased for you Tim .
this comment totally sums it up, his face lit up when he went to his 'room' and we can't say that about the X3, I wouldn't look twice at one, hateful cars.

Looks nice! BMW Suvs always look good - even though im a Benz guy! Love your GT-R Schmee - in New Zealand here we have like none haha - I struggle to find another fellow E63 :)
If you need an suv i think a cayenne/macan are far better options. But no, you don’t need one.. only useful for the ski trip.. and kids... or perhaps get one with a towing hitch+trailer and use it to transport your other cars long distances if you want to save miles on the more special cars... but i never felt you’re one to try and save miles on the other cars..
To you all thinking £55k is a lot; went to my local BMW dealer here in the Netherlands with my mom to look for a new car and we ended up speccing a nice X3 xDrive20i (base engine) Lux Line and it ended up being €82.000. Which is? £71.000. Yeah. It’s insane.
Nice review! X3 is very well done. But you are right- looks too much like the old one. Still, it would be my choice as it is very good where it really counts for a car like this.
If you want an SUV, I’d say go for it but I think unless you have a family, I.e. kids, there isn’t really a need for an SUV. There are plenty of cars that have similar storage space I.e. most modern day estate cars. But I won’t deny there are some lovely SUVs out there. Range Rover SVR, Bentayga and Macan S to name a few! Lamborghini Urus also to come relatively soon!
I spent nearly 4 weeks in Morocco and passed that same road in Marrakesh or certainly one similar albeit in a land rover convoy and not that sick hotel haha. However whilst I agree that this new X3 is improved, lets face it couldn't get worse so the only way is up! the X-Series is such a shambles of a series, yes people will buy them (lord knows why), yes theyre put together ok but have you ever spoken to someone who's in to cars (and doesn't just claim to be) who's put their own money in to an X car? I've certainly not, they don't work off road at all so whats the point, buy a 3 or 5 series estate if you're not going to use it off road, which you wont be; its smarter money. The only problem you face then if you're going down the estate route is you fall in line to the best in the business. if I wanted an off roader luxury or otherwise you'd go to Land Rover or get a G-Wagon and if you wanted a practical roomy car with a lot more cool factor and evidently looks a million times better then you'd find yourself at your local Mercedes dealership looking at high spec diesel estates or AMG estates or at least that's where I'd be. id argue they also make much nicer SUV's.
May as well own a 3er unless you take it off road or need to worry about snow/ice. So c'mon, drive it through a bog on those shiny 20" road tyres :-) It IS very pretty though, big improvement on the previous gen, and the tech is impressive. But again, for a load-lugger at £50k+, I'd buy a Touring.
If you're going to buy an SUV, go for something a little more unusual like a Stelvio or maybe a Jeep Trackhawk. But I'd rather see you in a sports saloon or estate. How about an E63 S or a Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo?

can you review the new Range rover Velar? I heard that it has full latest technology you could ever imagine, I think that might also be a good option if you are looking forward to buy a SUV
Remember the Top Gear road test of the first Gen X3 where Jezza got stuck in a muddy field and he had to be towed out by a tractor. The design was a disaster back then, but they have come a long way since then...but very predictable indeed..
You already have a Ferrari FF which is an estate so does everything the SUV does papart from off-road. But how many people with an SUV in the UK go off road.
there's nothing about the new x3 that looks like the old or even physically ALL NEW: :Wheels,chasis,engine,interior,nav,standard options,bigger moon roof,new head lights,new tail lights,new bumpers,new exhaust, new springs,new rims,new brakes,new buttons, and new steering wheel:NEW LED,new design team went into the x3 too also the last thing I can remember is that the designers are not even the same either this car Is brand new and doesn't even look like the old, the old x3 had a nav inside the dash while this is out side the dash, and in 2018 BMW will be opening a new segment in there lineup, they will change there logo , and they will bring the luxury to a new level with
I thought that Land Cruiser 200 or LC570 or G -AMG would look better on the Morocco roads...but... X 3 suit for your image

It could be a good car as a daily driver to replace the Focus. It would lose very little in value compared to the supercars., but have more room than the Focus/ff
Nice one! Tested this 30d and M40i at the international media test drive in Lisbon. The torque in this 30d is addictive! And the exhaust note from the M40i is just obscene! in a good way of course. I hated the X3 until I saw this new version. However, in blue! I like it a lot and is currenly thinking of buying one...don’t understand all negativity in the comments
