Great review! I appreciate how you brought both worlds together instead of one bashing the other. This drone appears to be exactly what you described, someone stuck in-between both worlds. Great job!
Thank you so much. This is one of the best tech reviews I have EVER watched. I was just getting into FPV and almost bought all the gear... glad I didn't because although it's not as 'authentic' as building (which I think is dope!) I do want to get into it with videography in mind first before racing. This really does seem like an amazing all-in-one starter kit for both video and fpv. This is such an incredible well-rounded review with balanced views of positive or negative features, depending on your skill set. Seems like this drone can be awesome for anyone, depending on your expectations! :) I had so many questions that were answered - even questions I'm sure I would have had later down the line (ie. Simulator). Amazing man. Appreciate the work that went into this!
OMG OMG OMG I got a comment from Elly Awesome! I bought a Sony ZV1 because of you! I no joke binged watch your videos with the hopes that I’d somehow pickup some of your super fun bubbly personality. Wow, making this video was worth this comment from you alone lol. Feel free to hit me up with any questions you have about FPV!
As someone who isnt a massive drone enthusiast I have to say this really explained a lot not just about the DJI but also FPV and drone mechanics in general. Well Done!!! SUBSCRIBED!!!
I’m glad! Because I went through several explanations trying to figure out how to concisely explain the difference until I landed on this one (and still wasn’t sure if I’d lose people).
Amazing review Tommy. You really approached it with an open mind and did a killer job at breaking it down. The motion controller makes me think of real-life Google maps street view.
Ayyye thanks Matt. I think it’s most def a great piece of tech for the right person. And the motion controller was most definitely a pleasant surprise. Side note... your videos are absolutely killer
@@ummagawdFPV Can't wait to try it if I can get one shipped to Korea haha... Also, I really appreciate that! Stoked to try your frame once it arrives too 👊
TOMMY! Outstanding! A credible review from someone who ACTUALLY USES the DJI for work and is a pioneer in the FREESTYLE world, and this edit?!!! Pffffft... who else is gonna have their own footy like dat?
Great review! I hate to say it but some of your peers seem to forget that a few 'Top-tier' pilots don't drive the industry with their self-built FPV drones. As we saw just a year or so ago we got the same negative reviews about the DJI Goggles, yet now several of your peers have transitioned over to using them in their daily setups. Now it doesn't mean that DJI is always deserving of rainbows and butterflies. You did a great job of reviewing this from the framework of someone that hasn't spent much time to the 'experts'. As well as addressing that this could be a great option for someone interested in more dynamic cinematography. So thank you for keeping this in mind and in balance.
You get it! I think it’s a highly misunderstood product, that absolutely has a place in the industry. Thank you for your comment. The negative ones are definitely strong on this one lol
Probably the best video I’ve seen about this. Nice use of b role and footage to tell your story. Excellent editing. You are good. Hope you get the traffic. Your deserve it.
Tommy, this review is the best and clearest one I've seen on the subject, and there's been quite a few since the DJI announcement! Great work there, crystal clear!
I really like to watch FPV videos so I have seen a lot of those, but honestly your videos (editing, structure, etc) are in another level, really! Congrats!!!
When you were checking the pause button, the way it was completely vertical in the slow motion was INSANE! That computer is calculating so fast! Great review!!!
The former is definitely doable in Betaflight if you run a GPS. Maybe not as aggressive of a stop but it can do it, and you could probably make it stop more aggressively with tuning. I've definitely seen a floating home point target before, might have been on a PX4 branch but I bet it could be added to the clean/betaflight stack with a bit of work by someone smarter than me.
It was internally called Flash... and I think I was the last one to figure out they weren’t publically calling it that lol. I had to go back and edit me calling it the flash
@@ummagawdFPV Thanks for the inside scoop, Tommy! Flash or any other real name (maybe except Trashcan) would have been better. It's not like DJI calls all their other drones DJI Camera Drone.
I can fit 2 of these, extra props, 4 batteries, charger, goggles, radio, motion controller... all into the small lowepro backpack easily. I would agree with your traveler friendly assumption
Really enjoyed watching your video and especially the motion controller. I have zero experience in FPV but watching the guy fly it for the first time was something else. Very very cool!
So many reviewer's have dropped a edit for this new drone but this one totally stands out as the best I have seen. Awesome work Tommy, really enjoyed this.
To be honest, if I was starting out right now I would seriously consider getting this. When I first started to learn about FPV, I was sometimes wishing there already was a ready-to-fly drone by DJI because it was kinda overwhelming to learn about all this stuff. It took me like half a year to learn about all the components, learn flying in a simulator, to finally receive all the parts (took months), and then finally to learn how to solder and to put it together. It's a huge barrier to entry. In the end, I'm glad I did it, building quads is pretty satisfying by itself, even though it's a lot of work. The freedom to put together any drone you want to to fly it wherever you want and how high you want is really great (apparently, this one is supposed to have the same 500m altitude limit from takeoff that all other DJI drones have, so scaling mountains should be impossible). Good review!
thanks! Yea... I think if you're end-state goal is to be deep into the FPV hobby (building your own, repairing yourself, tuning, etc...) then this is not the way to go.
Excellent video! I ordered one of these today so I'm pretty pumped! We have a lot of wooded land in the Adirondacks and I want to get a bird's eye view of it all, but I ALSO want to have a little fun 😀
ADD TO CART!!! Your review sold it for me! Excellent and very informative! (I also have that same Dj Lee T shirt, so that was the other selling point lol!) I saw the ad for this drone and really loved it, but you know how sometimes ads add hype, and the product aint all that great, you convinced me that it's actually a great product. I'm not a seasoned drone pilot but I've flown some, definitely nowhere near as good as this one, just very basic drones with no cameras or birds-eye view options, I like the fact that you showed how comfortable a beginner would feel flying this drone, I definitely didn't feel overwhelmed. Thanks for such an all around great review!
@@ummagawdFPV lol, I was curious does this have that follow me option? I saw a drone a few years ago that had a device you can wear that allowed the drone to track you, basically follow you, the ad showed a guy on his mountain bike wearing the device on his wrist I believe and the drone was following him.
Yes. Would like to see you do some more expert flying with it. Especially as a chase drone / camera tracking. Thanks for taking the time to learn the drone before just putting a video together.
+1 on the chase drone capabilities video idea. Thanks for making a straight up informative video. I was a bit of a hater because of the plastic case and would like to hear your take on that, but after watching this video I feel like this is the next step toward the future. Nice job!
I def don’t think this is made to crash and it seems like a lot of the fpv community is mistaking this to be like one of our DIY freestyle builds. It’s not, it’s very much still a film/camera drone. Think of it as a mavic with rate mode.
I would like to use this with a vista and my long range FPV quad. Is it possible, or it's usable only with this hybrid? (The size is ideal for a travel setup.)
This video is the reason why I got this drone with the motion controller 🙏🏽. With my challenge with my right side I can navigate easily with this controller
Wow! The other reviewers could learn some presentation and editing skills from you! Really slick review. You didn’t address the elephant 🐘 in the room though, it breaks really easy! I guess you didn’t “try” to crash it like Joshua 🤣
I have never seen your videos before and I have waiting to hear about this drone from an experienced fpv pilot. Very informative video. You have got an new subscriber.
Once again Tommy, you did a superb job. It is both informative and entertaining. You make me laugh and you always present things in a way that keeps me watching. I got irritated when the commercials just popped in at an important point, but they are short unless you want to keep watching them, so they are tolerable. You did a truly great job here and I learned a lot. Thank you.
Great review! Extremely helpful. You have a great on screen presence, well narrated, and well produced content. I like your workshop dungeon, the shop that you did this review from. The wall of drones is crazy - how many do you have there! I really like your durability videos - awesome again. And another unrelated comment to this video I saw your message on Patreon, very sorry to hear about the sh!t you are going through, i went thru some really nasty times about a decade ago, I think eventually we all do. I can tell you that the saying time heals all wounds is mostly true and having a passion like what it appears you have for drones can be one of the greatest things you can do with your time. Keep up the great work. It looks like you have some good friends and the hobby has some really cool locations like that salt mine! What a cool location. I am a new pilot so I am going to check out your website and support you that way if the drones there are right for me, that is unless I buy this DJI! Watching that motion control demo at the end was way nuts! The features are nuts, nice but expensive.
@@ummagawdFPV Thanks man. I have been in RC for 40 years! (Yikes) I went through some serious loss and for a while didn't do anything, lost all drive. I still have a kit 1/2 built right where I left it years and years ago... For me FPV has refreshed my interests, knocked the cobwebs off. Helps to focus on positive things like this kind of hobby. I am also super impressed with your starting a company at a young age! That is 100% the way to be! Keep up the great work, hang with positive people, have fun with it all. What setup do you recommend to someone who has general RC skills and a bunch of LOS quad flights under his belt? I should have a few bucks free to spend in about a month, I might have to buy in separate pieces to spread out the cost. I was thinking of a 4" frame, seems like a good compromise of size/performance/cost... I also like LOS flying quite a bit, there is a guy here on YT that is amazing at it, his channel is RC Addict if you have not checked him out it is worth it. So much talent on YT, it is such a great resource.
Like many others I really appreciate your skills at presenting information in a very polished and clear manner. Other reviews had me writing this drone set up off, but you showed me features (like the pause button) that made me reconsider my opinion. Plus your flight footage was amazing! Thanks for putting the time into making this video. For upcoming videos I want to see how you (a skilled and experienced pilot) would use it
Motion controller reminds me of the old Multiwii days where we were already using the guts of a Wii Nunchuck for the IMU, so then we experimented with using a Wii Nunchuk on the ground as a motion controller.
Just bought and collected mine yesterday here in Papua New Guinea! Will be playing in DJI Virtual Flight for a few days to really practice as much as possible... didn’t think it was so easy with just touch controls on iPhone... but it’s a fun app! :) Kinda nervous about that pro level M-mode!! Great video with some sick footage! Unfortunately the motion controller wasn’t available yet here or the fly more combo, but should be here in about a week! 140km/hr is crazy!!
I have watched a TON of these reveals. Yours is by far the best of all of them. Some of the the newbie videos are also entertaining. I did end up buying the whole thing w/fly more combo. I own a Mavic 2 Pro(which I never fly) and at least 25 FPV quads which is my passion. I just had to try this, as I know the DJI build quality, and the fusion of an FPV quad, and a DJI drone sounds awesome. Great review man. Good thing I got care refresh 😂
@@ummagawdFPV Yeah, I had already spent $1,800 unexpectedly, so I didn’t at the time. If it really is that cool, I probably will then. What’s $200 more...(possibly some new Ummagawd merch🤔) So it’s really that good in your opinion? Worth the extra money?
i honestly thought it was gonna be more expensive than it is, i guess i'm used to the marked up price of everything on the market. For what it's worth tho, this is exactly what i've been waiting for. I will order it for sure.
Awesome review man! If it wasn't for this Dji FPV, I wouldn't have known about the whole FPV world. Now I have 3 BnF FPV quads from all different brands. Really digging a hole in my wallet, but this shit is just so fun. Just bought one of your 2fiddy build kits too lol. Looking forward to it. My first build!
Great review 👏 I have been toying with the idea of getting into fpv for about 3 years, but having a wife, kids, dog, rabbit and a job doesn't really leave me the time to figure out the whole building my own drone bit. I bought this drone on day one and have loved every minute of flying it. I guess it will be quite some time before I go full manual. Another thing that has put me off fpv to this point are the crappy images in the goggles, the images in this system combined how user friendly it is to fly really make it a great starting point for somebody who has been on the sidelines for so long.
Lol a rabbit?!?! Yea man take your time. Fly the virtual sim until you get it right, and then keep going until you can’t get it wrong... and then you’re ready for manual
@@ummagawdFPV I can't get passed level 2 of the sim in sport mode yet 🤣🤣🤣 gonna be while before I get anywhere near acro, good job the pictures are pretty.
Last drone I lost fpv in mountains was because of looking at mountain side and finding what tree opening I was sitting at. LOL! Then the gps baby croc came out and it has the nav bonus too. A stripped down dji fpv quad imo. Great overview for people that... Want to learn more?......star ship troopers drop. That's not a pause button it's a virtual parachute. DJI will use that tag I bet. -hoverbotfpv guy
Hey Tommy awesome review video always providing better info than others appreciate that and we still ask for more info is never enough lol... it does look ugly but I'm curious to try the motion controller it looks interesting
Great video. Was on the fence, but this video convinced me to go for it. Built my own FPV a few years ago, but I have so much other things going on, that the time investment in adjusting, fixing, learning, etc, was just to much for me. If this was out 4 years ago I would’ve bought it in a heartbeat. I’m glad I learned the things I did by building my own, but this is pretty sweet.
Tommy! 0:49 - opportunity for "flight of the year" missed? Killer intro! This drone suites your "fast flowy line" style quite well - but not the FPV ninja tommy style - here it's just too fat I guess ;) 8:30 - I see the hexagon campus where you made your antennatest video :) even as an experienced FPVer (but still a chicken) I LOVE the pause button! It will also make room for fun challenges... Motioncontroller: can you still use the normal remote at the same time? Say you let someone fly, he / she gets lost and you wanna hit the pause button on the normal remote... it would make it ultra comforting for ridealongs... anyways - great review - has to be one of the best, thanks alot, now I'll unbox mine ;)
Hehe it’s definitely got an application, and it’s def NOT an FPV acrobatic freestyle monster. It’s very much a film/camera drone that happens to have rate mode. You can only use the motion controller or the radio one at a time
Best review so far! You've explained everything properly. Not a drone for me as I've been flying FPV for a while, but I will share this with my (DJI) friends. Some interesting new features though. Thanks Tommy.
Glad it was helpful! Definitely NOT for everybody. I think alot of people in the FPV community is really misunderstanding what this product is and who it's for.
Best review of all those I've seen so far and Ryan was right, this is likely the future whether us ol' skool pilots like it or not. I can see its place in the market. Superb production value as always Tommy 👏 👌 👍 🙌 👊🏼
Thanks man. The motion controller is pretty fun. I can't imagine what it will be like in the future. I think the only thing holding it back from "true" control is to somehow put yaw onto it's own controls (maybe foot pedals)? Right now, it mixes yaw and roll for you.... but baby steps.... baby steps
Thank you so much for your video, and thanks especially for explaining things with simple words for those like me who doesn't know much about this world!
Not sure if I could categorize this as a cheap or expensive hobby. You've got an all-in-one drone on one hand, and on the other.. it's not cheap. Still, an amazing release ny DJI nonetheless.
Try that infamous pause button with the record button. The record button won and the drone crashed hard 3 arms gone. The firmware should always give that pause button authority!!!
