Before everyone jumps to conclusion like Mr Tony Montana in the comments, allow me to clarify that this trip took place long before Covid-19 became out of hand - in early Jan. Self isolation had been observed, the entire office is fine and so are my family members and friends. We also cancelled trips and declined invites to events even before the March 18 lock down.
@@yagooatthegoat Always RWD but objectively speaking, considering the change in trends that prompted BMW to introduce this change, I personally think they've done a pretty good job in making sure the 2 series GC drives well as a FWD. With all things considered, that's all that really matters at the end of the day - car manufacturers making good and nice-to-drive cars.
A great review - thank you! Really interesting to hear you say that the pricing shouldn't be more than a 3 series because here in the UK, it is much less. I think you can look at the 218i as (say) a relatively eco-friendly alternative to a full hybrid. Compared to most full hybrids, it has reasonable handling and balance, a premium feel and (mostly) good looks. Think of the benefit of this small front mounted engine as emitting low CO2 levels rather than one lacking in performance. I am a petrol head and I've owned many (40+) cars including 6 M Sport BMWs. In my view, this car offers me (and perhaps others) a stepping stone towards a greener future and at reasonable cost without sacrificing driving appeal, quality or comfort. Reaching nearly 70 years old, I am at an age where I don't want to be thinking about driving on the ragged edge anymore and to me this is still an ‘ultimate driving machine', just in a more modern and eco-friendly form!
Brilliant video review and love the story about driving in the Algarve. My favour part of the world and I hope to get back when travel is permitted again (whenever that might be).
Not a fan of the new BMW design direction, more so this 2series. It looks rather clumsy and it's tall waistline doesn't help, I'll chose the CLA any day over this. Remember that the CLA does have the multi link option in its midrange selection. Even the interior looks way more luxurious. Anyways, will try it out to see how it's drive is when it's launched here. Thanks.
Hi - what's the deal with the rear headroom? I saw completely different opinions on the rear headroom. Those over 5ft 10 inches/6 feet clearly say there's no headroom and their head brushes the ceiling. They also opine that most people 5 feet 7 inches or below should have no issues at all whatsoever. The spec sheet shows that the internal headroom in the rear is only 5 millimeters shorter than an Audi A3. Any comments?
Great review thank you 😀 I've actually ordered one the 218i M Spot as my new company car I can't wait to get it estimated delivery date 3/8/20 just in time for my birthday lol 🎉🎉🎉
Even number BMW Series actually are all coupe, so it should be positioned to compete with CLA. Just that the side profile of this 2-Series is not Coupe enough.
It's pleasant to the eye and to the touch. To me, leather, fabric, or plastic even, I don't really care...most importantly it must be comfortable. The contours and padding must be just right. To me, that's the most important.
De RaizeL i think the real challenge would be grasping the rear end design. It’s quite easy to digest the front once youve seen it in the flesh. As for the rear end, it will no doubt attract differing opinions.
@@eujinpan the rear end is just a little hard to accept it just looks like the shape of the persona, a sedan converted from the hatch, the rear is just too thick
@@eujinpanI would hope for the full digital. But as what the 320i has presented (analog+digital), I think same faith will be on this new 218i for M'sia. For me, I can accept this, half analog half digital if the 218i or 220i is priced below 320i or below the RM200k price range. 😁
Ideally it should be around that price. But we should be mindful that RM200k now is now like RM200k from 10 or even 5 years ago. It still gets you a BMW or Mercedes but if you observe closely, it's almost a kosong spec model.
Objectively speaking, I think at the end of the day, all that matters is that car brands (whether BMW or Proton) continue to make good and nice-to-drive cars. In my opinion, their moves and other car brand's alike, are heavily influenced by market trends. They have to cater to what (they think or believe) the masses want and not rely on the purists and enthusiasts alone - can't survive like that. They've got quotas to hit and mouths to feed too haha. That's just my perspective.
I am the same with you but then again, most of the car buyers know nuts about their cars. It's sad that BMW resorted to these bunch of moron and used that as some leverage on introducing FWD BMWs. That said, the FWDs are good but to a point on sacrificing models like 1 Series just for a little more space? That's too much. They got the 2AT for that what and hat is something that they market as a hatchback, not an MPV.
Covid19 ofcoz la highway empty, they all responsible not like u travel during dis time, hope u not get infected n bring it back home to ur fmly n frens.
