This week on Let Dirt Fly, we check out the Brand New Icon Primary Clutch from 3P Off-road. We install the clutch on Marshall's 2020 Can-Am Outlander 650/850 XMR! Good video. FYI, the individual components are balanced and the completed final assembly is balanced. Sheaves are vacuum cast and spider is forged. The X and Y loads are split on the spider making it unique in the market. We also have a clutch puller that will work on the stock, STM, ICON and CVTech so you don’t have to worry about grabbing the wrong one.

Great video Marshall! Right now I am willing to try this primary out! Just been quiet about my plans as I am currently going through another major rebuild with my 850. All I know is that I never really did the valve lapping compound, but I will probably do that when I service my cvtech and the new clutch soon.

You could also swap to 35/40 helix In the secondary. That worked best with the icon. I’ve had a icon for a few months and have ran it on 3 different cc engines

I have a 35/40 and 40 helix laying around. I used a 35/40 in Busco beach and personally did not like it. It doesn’t hold rpm as well and it bogged the machine down. I like her to come up to rpm and hold and rip. It does raise my trail rpm a little but when you whack the throttle, the power is there.

Man awesome content here. Been thinking about going Icon once I saw Ostacruiser switch to one and now you. I think it's the move! Question, what belt are you running? Ive been debating between the Gboost & Redline but cant decide. My dad runs an STM primary with a Redline, stock secondary, Empire Duals with a tune and has no issues but im looking at going further than the mods he has. We both have Outlander 1000 XMR's for referance.

I have a Qsc on my machine for 3500 km with no issues and it uses a stock can am clutch removal tool.

Well I'm interested! Could end up trying one of these on my wife's 2022 570. Need to get it tuned up to the 650 first. BTW I'm jealous of that torque wrench!

Talking with Russ from 3P, the Icon is a little heavy for the 570s right now but sounds like he’s had luck with them on the 650. His son’s quad he was able to get around 7800 with no weight in the fly weights. And I got an awesome deal on it. A Sears store was closing near us and all their tools were dirt cheap!

I think cvtech uses the same primary bolt also

Cvtech reuses the factory bolt, but we always recommend upgrading to the Can Am Parts Guy HD Primary and Secondary Bolts.

We haven’t tried it on a 650 yet. From talking with the creator Russ from 3P, he said it will still work on a 650 with very little weight. For us, we recommend a CVtech on the 650 and small CC machines.

How much are these ? And what do they compare to the stm? Obviously its not going to be as good but just curious brother

I believe they’re about $900 from OnKill Powersports. The creator of the Icon, Russ, from 3P said this clutch has the fast reaction of a Cvtech and the grunt of a STM 3P. This on paper should actually be better than a STM. I can tell you it pulls harder mid range than the STM for sure. We’ll find out soon how it truly compares when we do the shootout video.
