maybe i’m the only one who thinks this, but john wasn’t really playing it at the right tempo starting off. i think steve was trying to get him into the right direction. if you go back and listen to it, john was a bit sluggish at the start. either way they sounded great
Probably because they haven't played together since 2017 (except some rehearsels) and this being the first live show and first song, you just have to get into it again. Can imagine they also didnt rehearse to much, since its just one show, and they have busy schedules... shows even JM is still human ha ;)
@@tekstephens this. Steve knows, he brought it to the right tempo, it wasnt cooking till he lit the fire. Thats the drummers job, and hes maybe the only one who can light that fire under John
> let me know in the comments if you have another theory for the looper It could be the case of trying to avoid the popping sound from an "old/first-gen" true bypass switch.
Yo Justin could you do a breakdown of John's pedalboard at the 2010 Crossroads Festival? His tone there was absolutely incredible and I've been dying to know what he used. I really hope u find some time to do it!!!
another great video! Agree the AP Mk 1 and Mk 2 have a slightly different sound, but he can eq his rig different to compensate. Interesting he is using the Mk 2 on this rig tho!
Wish I could have taken better photos/videos! The lighting was so odd in the room, great for the performance but horrible for photos - especially from the balcony!
I’m curious if you think Mayer always puts his univibe after his drive section. You mentioned these amps aren’t set clean so maybe that’s why it’s closer to the end? I always wondered where the univibe is in his chain on WTLI.
