Episode # 6201 HOUSE WARMING
Original airdate: 9-24-62
In this, the debut program of the NEW Loretta Young Show, Miss Young plays Christine Massey, a widowed single mother of seven and would-be writer who lives in suburban Connecticut. We join the Massey clan as Christine and her children are about to be featured on a live, nation-wide television broadcast, proving the old adage that: “kids say the darndest things”. But it is what Christine herself says, not her children, that causes a deluge of phone calls to the TV station.
Christine Massey’s seven children are portrayed by;
Dirk Rambo (Paul), along with his identical twin, Dack, was born on November 13, 1941 in Delano, California. The brothers moved to Los Angeles in the 1960s where they were discovered while attending mass at St. Victor’s Catholic Church in West Hollywood by actress Loretta Young, who then cast them in her CBS series, "The New Loretta Young Show."
Dirk Rambo was killed prematurely on February 5, 1967 in Hollywood, when a car driven by a drunk driver, Kathleen Case, collided head-on with his car. Rambo died in the fire that resulted from the impact.
Dack Rambo (Peter) was most notable for appearing as Walter Brennan's grandson Jeff in the ABC series The Guns of Will Sonnett, as Steve Jacobi in the ABC soap opera All My Children, as cousin Jack Ewing on CBS's Dallas, and as Grant Harrison on the NBC soap opera Another World.
While working on Another World, Rambo learned that he was infected with HIV in August 1991. He quit the series shortly thereafter and retired from acting. He died on March 21, 1994 at the age of 52, of complications from AIDS. He is buried near his brother Dirk at North Kern Cemetery, Delano, California
Most of Celia Kaye's (playing Marnie) work was on television between 1962 and 1974, with final credited film appearances ten years apart - in 1978 and 1988.
In 1962, a few months before The New Loretta Young Show premiered, Kaye made her television debut as the character "Julie Trenton" in one of the last episodes of the Tales of Wells Fargo, starring Dale Robertson.
Sandra Descher (Judy) was discovered by accident while on vacation. She appeared in her first movie, It Grows on Trees, in 1952. By 1954, a news item reported that Descher was "the only long-term contract child in Hollywood," having been signed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
CaroI Sydes (Binkie), also credited as Cindy Carol, was born on October 11, 1944, in Los Angeles, California. Before appearing on this series, Sydes made a guest appearance on Medic, followed by guest appearances in seven episodes of Leave It to Beaver in the years 1957-60
In 1963, taking the new stage name of Cindy Carol, she starred as Gidget in the third and final Gidget feature film, Gidget Goes to Rome.
Beverty Washburn (Vickie), a Los Angeles native, first uncredited role was as 6-year-old Walda Kowalski in the 1950 film about a smallpox outbreak in New York City entitled, The Killer That Stalked New York. She appeared on many of the anthology series then common on television, including Dick Powell's Zane Grey Theater, One Step Beyond, Shirley Temple's Storybook and General Electric Theater... and of course earlier episodes of The Loretta Young Show series on NBC.
Tracy Stratford (Maria) is known for appearances on The Twilight Zone (1959), Ben Casey (1961) and The New Loretta Young Show (1962). She is currently (2018) a librarian in northern Washington state.
In a performance that would foreshadow his career in the years to come, actor Ted Knight plays Gary Haskell Jr., a modern-day Edward R. Murrow, who would eight years later take on the role of the iconic newscaster Ted Baxter on the Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Trivia fact: Miss Young’s youngest son, Peter Lewis, appears as a guitar-playing band member performing in the Massey living room. He would later become a founding member of the San Francisco acid-rock band Moby Grape.
Also in the band, playing drums, is Jim O'Keefe, the son of Dennis O'Keefe, a famous All-American footballer and 40s & 50s movie leading man.
