After watching the video, I visited Minerva and was excited to see they have 1” gingham. I used an aqua color to make my ironing board cover, but it is getting faded and I’m ready to replace it, but they didn’t have the right color. I wanted to share how much I love having 1” squares as an ironing board cove because it makes everything so so easy! You have straight lines in 2 directions for laying out fabric before pressing, for turning up hems, and you will be surprised at just how much you use the squares.
I also made the mistake of cutting on the lengthen shorten line! I was able to “save” it on my curved hem tee, but it is a bit more obvious as the print is only scattered. My friend (who doesn’t sew says it just looks like a seamline. And yes I was trying to get it cut out late at night! Your skirt is gorgeous!
Love the skirt and it was a great save from the minor boo-boo. I hope Ava and her friends have a ball at the ball 😂 (we have year 11 and year 12 balls in Australia which would be equivalent to Prom).
Thank You for "exposing" your errors :. I just sewed a two piece sleeve vent backwards last night. Yes, I was tired. It was after work lol. I will fix it tonight. That is a beautiful skirt. I love the swishiness.
You are so authentic. Thank you. I didnt see any mistake on thd ruffle and probably others did not but you shared... much appreciated. Lovely skirt and it goes well with your Tshirt.
Love the skirt!! Very pretty, and no one will notice- as you said on such a busy fabric-we have all been there and done that; I see it is meant for woven fabrics, but I am wondering if I could use a lightweight knit(?) Have a great week! :+)
Hi Whitney, beautiful skirt. I also purchased the pattern and assumed the size chart would be the same body measurements for XS but the xs is now the same size as S if you compare the older patterns or have I got it wrong?
I just compared the Caprice to a couple of their other patterns and it looks like the size chart is the same. You have been looking at the finished measurement chart instead of the size chart.
Love the skirt. I’m feeling great now but also don’t sew when you start feeling bad. I was so proud of myself. I cut the pattern to my measurements and even remembered seam allowance. However it never crossed my mind about ease. I was like too much sausage in to little casing. Thank goodness I was only a muslin.
Looks amazing! Love that you chose to make the skirt instead of a blouse in the fabric. I’m getting this pattern, so I can use the skirt on dresses too!
I used your code when shopping yesterday on the sale. I went a bit overboard and didn't know the Caprice was coming out. Lol. I will try to get it before the release sale is over. You look so good in orange. Or at least it looks orange.
I have been trying to access the sewing studio website since you made the video about buying dead stock fabric and I get an error message every time. Any ideas?

Your skirt is absolutely gorgeous! The pattern is darling and the fabric is perfect for it! Love it all! And I really appreciate your attitude about your mistake in cutting and how you just fixed it and went on. I'm really learning from you that I don't have to be a perfectionist, and yet I can still make beautiful clothing. Thank you!
I’ve been following you for many years now yet I still cannot believe that your son and daughter are finishing up their junior year in high school! Where did that time go? I remember thinking, when they started high school, that you were going to have a difficult time, emotionally, when they graduate from high school and go off to college. And, Whitney, it’s almost here! I’ve never been a skirt person, per se, myself because of my short torso and full bust. That being said, I’m embracing the idea and this will be one I’m adding to my collection now that I’ve seen it modeled by you and others! Of course Love Notions would give us a plethora of options! And my stash of light, floaty, women’s is begging to become one! Glad you featured this skirt today! P.S. Thank you, too, for the coupon code for The Sewing Studio! 💕
I love the orange top with that skirt! 😍 Thanks for the mention of a new fabric store. I think. 😆 I also have a time limit for sewing and knitting - but I made that same boo boo a few months ago in the middle of the afternoon! I missed unfolding the bottom 2" of the front pattern piece, didn't notice it until sewing up and added on the remaining. Also - I got some Refined ponte from Joann on your recommendation and it is wonderful! The navy was perfect, so I went back and found the black on a cart when they were re-arranging things. Having a name to look for was so helpful! 😘
What a beautiful skirt! I love the asymetrical way you are wearing in your twirl shots too. It looks like a great warm weather skirt you can throw on with a t-shirt and out the door. Love your oops story...........been there done that. I have a hard and fast rule that I ONLY cut things out when I am fresh. You really recovered from the oops. Bet unless you point out the oops nobody will notice. That skirt would look beautiful with the blue top you have on too.
Got the pattern and that same fabric!!!t I LOVE everything about this skirt and fabric. Enjoy the prom festivities. Oh i remember the days. I think its more stressful for moms than the daughters at times. lol Hope she has a fabulous time with her friends.
Love the skirt! Love the fabric! Also love that you shared your goof and how you fixed it. I had a beautiful black knit dress I made about 30 years ago that when someone asked what pattern I’d used, I said it didn’t matter because I’d goofed so many times and had to change so many things that she’d never be able to recreate it.
That is a beautiful skirt!! I am very tempted to try that pattern out. I also rarely wear skirts so that is quite a gap in my wardrobe, and I have the perfect summery floral rayon voile to do it in.
Just love the fabric you have made that skirt in. It's so vibrant for the summer months. The pattern looks like my sort of skirt, so will definitely be making that
