I'm def going to be picking this up after watching this review. The overall impression that I've heard is that this is a quality SNK stick, and a great fight stick to go for without breaking the bank.
The stick is apparently a little iffy, and a Sanwa replacement would cost you around 20 more dollars. Even then, it only works with PC and the NeoGeo Mini. Replacing the PCB to play it on other consoles could jack the total cost above $200 bucks, which is closer to the high end fightstick market. You'd be better off getting a midrange Hori stick.
I bought it and I'm happy with it. Good quality, decent emulation and nice feeling. I want to mod it with the HyloStick hack, get the whole Neo Geo library, and even more, like CPS1-3 and other arcade systems games on it.
Huh...today I learned I must be 1 of those rare humans born w/out the ability to weigh something by hearing someone drop it, I personally must always use a scale for that sorta thing...
I immediately wishlisted this. I really want a fightstick, I really want to play more fighting games and I love a lot of the SNK titles. This thing is dope AF!
How did every RU-vidr and tech reviewer get one on or before release but someone who preordered 10 minutes after preorders went live on amazon isn’t getting theirs until January 16th?
SNK, 20 fighting games without a MOVES list, come on man. How are we supposed to play these 20 fighting games to the best of our abilities? We need the "Moves List" for ALL 20 games. A printed moves list for ALL 20 games, every character.
@@matthewcoreyhall I mean, the arcade games found in the switch does have the move list on the menu, it wouldn't have been any harder to put the move lists inside a menu of some kind.
I would love for snk to revive the crystalis brand. I loved that game and would love a sequel/prequel or remaster. The ys series reminds me of the crystalis of old😁
Both of them are now hacked, so almost 500 games can be loaded including the whole library of Neo Geo games! The same applies to MVSX. The legend lives on!
I use a Hori fighting stick ex2 and it works fine with my PC. It's less than £20 posted at CEX and sometimes on eBay and works fine with any PC (and of course the Xbox 360)
people seem pretty casual in the park (first game) while some big thugs just beat the hell out of each other. one guy is just chilling on the grass and that old guy is just throwing stuff on dog.
Outstanding TechWave/Taking Apart video Jon(SW). The Neo Geo Mini is very cute and I still need too get one but this Neo Geo Arcade Stick Pro Plug n Play system is right up my street and I am heavily learning on getting one. People likes the Clicky Stick n Loud Buttons but I prefer stealth tho lol, so being able too switch out Parts is a Plus. The Stick not being abled too work with the Switch, PS4 n Xbox1 is an oversight and no games outside of Fighting Games like Metal Slugs is small misstep aswell I feel.
SNK should have included 20 different printed manuals which give all the moves & special moves for all the characters, for all 20 games. I feel like I would be buying an incomplete product because I don't have a "moves list." THAT IS A MUST HAVE FOR 20 FIGHTING GAMES. WE NEED TO KNOW HOW TO DO ALL THE MOVES! Pick up a copy of Killer Instinct Gold for the N64 and tell me you can do every move without a cheat card, or Mortal Kombat 3.
720p means it doesn't scale to 1080p or 4K without blur, 900p which Microsoft chose to focus on to evade hardware limitations in the Xbox One would though. I was born and raised on CRT and last gamed on one a few years ago, I have a 720p native plasma that is beautiful with old stuff,, but screw that. Native 1080p would make the price closer to okay.
Oh for god's sake! THERE ARE 20 HIDDEN GAMES! Including every Metal Slug, 3 Fatal Furys, Art of Fighting 3, The Last Blande and more. Why doesn't any reviewer make their homework for this?! You just need to plug it to your PC and merge two text files. Here's a video with the games unlocked /watch?v=fIiEIz55knk
I’ve recently started collecting carts for the MVS in hopes of consolizing an original arcade board, so I didn’t really need this, but I pre-ordered anyway. I’m just a sucker for SNK and all the old Neo-Geo games. It’s a relief everyone so far has been giving it high marks for quality.
@@Hassan-Alnajjarno. The emulation quiality is good, there are no differences in gameplay. The only differences I spotted are some little graphic details in World Heroes 2 and World Heroes Jet, but it's not dramatic.
I didn’t like the Fisher Price look and so upgraded the buttons to Sanwa and knob to a bat top with cooler colours. Also with the new Hylo Hack plus 16 gb memory stick I now enjoy all 150 Neo geo games, about 80 CPS games and 250 arcade games (I didn’t opt for home console games - keeping the arcade focus). It is an excellent stick.
I always wonder, at what point will people give up on buying the SAME neo geo games every couple of years on new hardware? What's the point? Do we really need 50 metal slug devices? I can settle with 3 max. Just go all out, make a simple device that connects to the net and is a solid portable, produce some games you sell for a couple bucks each or so and dont take much work like shmups and maybe 5 dollar or more major titles like a new metal slug. If they're this invested in hardware may as well go all in.
Man, I guess they wanted a retro look but that thing looks like a Playskool toy or something. Also looks like it will turn yellow within 5 years which... might be perfect nostalgia. Honestly if Sony or Microsoft made their new console with that 90’s off white PC plastic, I’d absolutely buy it.
@Re Up The Neo Geo CD controller was small, like normal gamepad-sized. This device is the size of the large console game arcade-style joysticks, so it should be modeled after those.
Actually the Neo Geo Mini's screen was one of it's best features. It just wasn't big enough, there were no micro switches and the HDMI out to your TV made things look like the had vaseline on them.
You need to understand that the start button in tournament play for most fighting games is the "forfeit the match" button. putting start in a hard to get to location is a standard feature in most arcade sticks. nad yeah, if your stick has say... Sanwa Denshi parts, $130 isn't that unreasonable.
The tethering between the two units is awful but I can appreciate the effort. They should have got it right the first time. I have a problem feeling like I now need to purchase both units in order to play the offerings of games. The new release is 100% fighting games
I hope SNK patches this so it works with the PS4. I would love to buy this and use it as my main arcade stick for KOFXIV, Samurai Shodown and for when The King of Fighters XV comes out next year.
i think if the inputs aren't absolute booty this is a really great entry level arcade stick, it's pretty easy to open up and swap out the stick and buttons for some higher quality sanwa parts down the line, and the included games makes the $130 price point all the more compelling. hoping they include some metal slug game in a future firmware update
From what i heard there is also more 20 games hidden which includes metal slug. But why did snk hide those games, snk would have sold way more if people knew the rest of the games
$130-$150 is usually the starting price for most quality fightstick, so I don't think it's that unreasonable....however if you buy this as a plug and play, its probably a little pricey.
I am excited for this. I preordered it day one. But it didnt ship on release date. I was given an release date between december 14th and January 14th. But it looks good overall.
You can actually play metal slug with that...from the mini...hook them both up together nd you can can play all the games on the mini as well as the pro
Certainly, they existed... Those blinded by ambition. Those consumed with vengeance. But here they do not exist. Only winners and losers here. For here, THE MIGHTY RULE!
Looks kind of interesting. Didn't realize this was going to come out, but I more than likely won't be getting it anytime soon though. Not the biggest fan of fighting games.
It looks nice, but it's all fighting games, so meh not really for me. I do like the fact the buttons look mechanical though, they should almost just make an omni system stick, including SNES/SFC and USB and what ever else. I'm sure fans of like the street fighter games or what ever would find it appealing to get a new high quality stick for everything along with it.
You said you don’t like using the USB ports on the tv. Why is that? I use it to power my S/NES Classic systems. Should I switch to the included power adapter?
I bought this and I think I made a mistake. As is it doesn't work as a stick for any of my consoles without an extra link cable. The buttons don't have micro triggers and it's not wireless at all. So to play it on the TV I need to be sitting in front of the TV.
It doesn't work on any console because SNK has an adaptor for PS4 and Switch. Guessing it's because they want to nickel and dime customers for the adapter.
So expensive... When you can just buy a Dreamcast and SNK games, or off the PS Store at steep discount, both with great arcade sticks. There's always emulation the other way round but of course, you'd need to own those games first.
