The NEW Netflix show Dark is better than Stranger Things 

I am German and I am so happy that a German show made it. There are very few German shows which are that successful all over the world. I watched the show in a day. I really loved it! 😃 Can't wait for season/series 2. 😃

Yep. Dark it's Premium content which doesn't want to please anybody (as Stranger Things does). There was an interview with the creators in which she says the main purpose is to raise questions and thoughts on what you just watched... then she says 'of course if you want to just pass the time and entertain yourself you can'... but, that was said based on marketing.. the serie does not intend to be mere entertainment. We need more shows like this, like Westworld. Premium cinematography.

I concur. At first I thought it was going to be a German rip off of ST (electrical disturbances, the 80s, a field of dead pumpkins/sheep, a creepy forest, a science-y government facility shrouded in secrecy, a kid gone missing into another realm)...but whoa did it take a sharp turn at Existential Street! I’m so glad it didn’t devolve into a monster trope. I paced my binge over 5 nights because I wanted to savor every episode. I sure hope Season 2 is as epic.

Dark is phenomenal. One of the very few shows that could hold my interest 100% stopped everything I’d be doing to watch it instead of multi tasking. Not for everyone but definitely my favorite show as of its inception.

Hands down the best TV Show this year. The only one i watched TWICE! I noticed much more subtle details when i was watching second time, it was worth it. Creators really put in their hearts and thoughts to it. I like Stranger Things a lot too, but DARK is really better. Another level. I'm glad they picked it up for second season.

Before I watch the whole video, *Dark* is nothing like *Stranger Things*. One is about monsters and the other is time travel. It's like comparing and apple to an orange. Sure, they have similarities but their stories are quite different from each other.

The season 2 is even better! Damn I cant wait for season 3!

I literally just discovered this show and watched it all in the course of a weekend. You're absolutely right. This show is still criminally underrated. The way they craft the atmosphere and the tone and flesh out the characters. The way the story is followed bit by bit like a trail of breadcrumbs. It's honestly masterful.

Dark is like the 18+ version of Stranger Things. Stranger Things is easy to follow, and Dark is hard to follow, but it's worth it if you can understand. They're not better or worse than the other, they're different. Dark is obviously made for a deeper, 'darker', more depressing theme, and it makes you think about morals and ethics more than Stranger Things. Stranger Things seems more appealing and in the end, things always work out, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's arguably more attractive. Dark isn't afraid to make things not work out in the end, and even make them worse. I love both shows, I'm just saying why I think they're different

Just to add, I think that the fact the series is in German (which is such a beautiful language) really adds to the atmosphere of the storyline. I have recommended (and raved!) about this show to pretty much everyone I know. Non-German speaking people should not be put off by the fact they have to read subtitles because this is 100% worth the watch 😊💓

I love both of them. Both worlds draw me in so well and I couldn't stop watching ST and now I can't stop watching Dark. Stranger Things has just more heart to it, that's why I like ST more. But Dark isn't the kind of show with heart and it isn't supposed to be. But I love both shows. I think it's just about personal preference.

I was relating so much more to tha characters of Dark than to ST because the show is much more realistic and Not filled with cheesiness and klichees. But those are the elements of ST own style which is also very enjoyable to watch. I also loved ST and couldn't stop watching it as it aired. It's just very different genres and I enjoy the more realistic and deeper one more :)

I agree with you! I loved stranger things but guys dark is on an other level.. The atmosphere, the music.. 80% of the time watching I had goosebumps. After game of thrones the second best series imo

You cannot compare Dark to Stranger things, completely different concepts of shows and aimed at completely different audiences.

As a German I have to say that I really liked it. The quality, the music and escpecially the young actor were great and I'm really happy with how everything has turned out. Usually I'm always kinda nnoyed or ashamed by shitty german acting, story and storytelling xD

I watched all three seasons, one of the best series since 90s Twin Peaks.

Comparing this show to Stranger things is stupid af. All they have in common is: both dramas with fantasy elements and a missing kid right at the start. I know stranger things is very popular but there is literally no need to compare it with this show.

Bartosz = Noah = Hanno Tauber (Agnes Nielsens husband and Tronte's father), which means that Jonas is a descended of Noah, eg. his best friend Bartosz. The whole Nielsen family descended from Noah BUT the real implication here is that Claudia Tiedemann's daughter Regina might be Trontes daugher, cause we know they had an affair for years and she doesn't have a husband and who is Reginas son? BARTOSZ!!!! We got us a Predestination situation here and Bartosz is his own great grandfather. And Claudia knows about that which brings us to the dark/light situation Noah mentioned to Bartosz and why Noah thinks he is righteous because if he doesn't do what he does to ensure the loops exists, the whole Nielsen/Tiedemann family would cease to exist. Claudia on the other hand want's to restore the order even if it means to eradicate both family trees... Season 2 is going to be a mindfuck times 10 compare to this season.

So Netflix now has one thing thst called "Dark" and other callled "Bright"? Lol.

I love Dark. I really liked the first season of Stranger Things. Dark is a much more complex, serious and deep show. Stranger Things is more of a fun nostalgia trip that is much faster paced and straight forward. Both great shows (season 2 of ST kinda sucked but was still fun to watch) but d Dark is legitimately excellent of many levels where Stranger Things is just kind of a fun thing to binge watch with your significant other that relies heavily on nostalgia/refrences, cute kid actors and safe plot devices.

I'm trying so hard to get this film out there so that it will be a classic, and also to make sure we receive a couple seasons.

Great video. I strongly agree. I binge-watched Dark over the last few days and was tremendously impressed. It is a remarkably well-crafted show and amply rewards the attentive viewer. The time travel dimension of the plot is a truly incredible device as the non-sequential storyline that results allows for the classic plot of unraveling an initial mystery, but with the twist that subsequent events are themselves puzzle pieces that help us to explain the opening problem. This gives the plot a forward momentum, without the same overly retrospective focus that constrains most forensic dramas. Having been impressed with this video, I took a gander at some of your other videos and my vague suspicions that you might be a Christian seem to have been justified. Keep up the good work!

Dark is not only better than stranger things. It's better than 99.9% of the series out there.

i love how the opening sequence foreshadows the show. it starts out 2 reflections that represent 2019 and 1986, and then half way through it changes

Dark made me feel like i was watchin donnie darko for the first time. Leaving me feel like i need to rewatch it, and is such an intensely good show that it gets you thinking aswell as reading. You really get to know the characters whilst feeling like you are in the real world. It gave me some broadchurch vibes too aswell as fringe.

"This is like movie making that has been broken down,into a tv series" YES!! I said this exact same thing! It doesn't have those down times or fillers of other series. Literally every frame is important to the plot. Everything that's said, is note worthy. It was sooo satisfying to see, seemingly small things, brought up episodes later and weaved so expertly into the story. The episodes just melted into themselves for me and by the time I came up for air It was 5am and I was on episode 7. I had one of my most unproductive days at work, cause all I could think about were these damn characters. Its definitely not for everyone, even though the show does a great job in editing and dialogue to tell the viewer who is who and when is when ( at the cave : chair = 2019 green woods= 1986 rusty half gate =1953 work area =1921). Many people wont have the time or attention span to follow along and alot of the "🤯" moments will be lost to them. For me though? 10/10

Finished season 2... With S3 confirmed... I can't wait. Hopefully it'll gain more attention

I think it is hard to compare the shows, as they both have pros and cons as well as the fact that preference of one show is subjective. Nonetheless, loved the points you brought up. I haven’t completely finished ST, but I am nearly done and I am not as intriguied as I was while I was watching Dark. While scifi is far from realistic, I find Dark way more mentally stimulating and a bit less tacky. Foreign film and tv don’t get enough credit, especially in America, so I was surprised to see people saying it looked low budget. I honestly thought the scenery, cinematography and sound design were phenomenal.

This is the best review of Dark on the internet. IT IS THE BEST SCI-FI SERIES I HAVE EVER SEEN. The peak of storytelling.

I love them both but Dark is much better, being more complex and in depth and it's more mind boggling. It makes you think more about the emphasis of how time is set in stone and how your past changes your future and how everything falls into place in this one big puzzle called timespan...

I count both shows among my favorites. I feel like they're too different from one another to give any kind of assessment about which is "better" than the other, they're pursuing different goals. I'm just glad there are shows like these out there to watch these days instead of just sitcoms and game shows.

The difference between "Dark" and "Stranger Things" is that "Dark" demands the full attention of its audience. The multiple time lines and switches make it a highly complex storyline. I don't think that "Dark" is better, it is just different and we should be thankful that we finally have a German show that also tells a good yarn. "Babylon Berlin" was awfully pretty but the storytelling was only soso.

After watching The OA and Dark, I think Stranger Things is wrongly named. Stranger Things has more likeable characters, whereas Dark's characters are deeply disturbed, and having said that it doesn't mean that the characters in ST are better, they're just easier to like, and the show itself is genuinely interesting even without the nostalgic lure of Stranger Things. And it IS dark. Damn I can't stop thinking about it.

I hate when people try and compare it to Dark......There is nothing else like Dark. To this day, it still haunts me...It is the perfect series...never believe anything else!!...

The comparison with ST doesn't make a lot of sense. You can compare Dark rather with Donnie Darko if you want or need a comparison. It's a pretty solid series with some weak points like (some) dialogues and the way too loud "background" music. Worth to watch anyways.

Just finished rewatching both seasons. Not only pay attention but maybe take a few notes. Complex stuff but sooo well done.

People think this is a rip-off of Stranger Things. It’s definitely not! Gone are the sympathetic characters and charm. While this show is certainly intriguing, it certainly lives up to its name, and is a bit heavy handed sometimes in its themes. It is definitely better-made than Stranger Things, but when I reached the end of this season, I realized there was no one person I could truly get behind, but maybe it’s just me.

I wasted my time watching ST. The story was not original. I liked the scary scenes and the kids acting. But the show in no way is comparable to Dark! ST would definitely appeal to teenagers much more than Dark. The latter has much more thinking and analyzing and insights about philosophical issues. I think it appeals more to the mature audience and especially people who liked shows like fringe more than the others. I would advice everyone to watch it in German.

Oh my gosh. I just finished Dark and I can't agree more. I enjoyed this show so much it hooked me right from the first episode unlike stranger things.. I'm still trying to muddle through that one

im wondering why this show didnt get a lot of buzz.. the germans (i think) wow... they really know how to do concise story telling , amazing character development...theres barely and holes...bent expectations...and ya its such a good mystery..

The story was incredibly difficult to follow as is it needed you to recognize a crap ton of people, their names and how they all relate to eachother through 3 different time periods.

Cuz its not goofy. But some people like it more goofy than serious. So personal preferences. Both greatly written, acted and made shows.

In my opinion, ST is better then Dark but it is still an amazing show and i defiantly recommend it.

No one is more surprised than us Germans that this show is so well crafted and unique. Believe me, most of German TV is really boring, middle of the road bullshit.

Well, Stranger Things is what I consider a kids/teenager show, full of slapstick and silliness. Dark is a complex, dark, twisted, atmospheric and serious show with more layers than most onions. The kind of show that makes you work to follow and understand, and rewards you for it. Very little modern TV is this intriguing. Well done Germany. We need more from you.

I watched stranger things then watched the Dark after watching it my brain didn’t let me to watch the stranger things’s new season .I just lost interest in stranger things. Dark is by far the greatest show ever .

i don't understand why eveyone has a boner for this show, I just finished the season and there was way too fucking much going on, they kept ading new characters and new peices to the mystery but nothing was resolved come the last episode, Nothing was resolved at the end of the seasonit just became more and mpre convoluted as it chugs along. ST has amazing writin, each season has a mysery is resolved at the end of the seaon, but still leaves the audience wanting more as we learned this season there are muchy more dangerous things out there.

When I first watched this show, I had more of an appreciation for its craft. But the heavy-handed ways that the characters tell us the themes of the show, and the nihilistic nature of it all is anything but good. Yes, it’s supposed to be dark and all, but after 2 seasons of wandering around in the oppressive atmosphere, with the mostly unsympathetic characters, and needing a flowchart to keep track of everything, I was done. The S2 cliffhanger made up my mind about that. Sure, I get these people are sinful, but I definitely could do without the graphic sex scenes, nudity, and disturbing violence. Too nihilistic, not enough meaning, and unnecessarily explicit. Is this really healthy, good, true, and beautiful stuff?

If you want to watch something easy-peasy , you can watch "stranger things" but if you want to watch something that will take you to beyond your imagination and develop your thinking capabilities you should definitely watch "Dark"
