The NEW Seiko SLA079 | A Fusion of Marinemaster and LX Line? 

I hope they will come out the green dial and blue dial, the case shape is a lot refine, I would say it is a brand new beast, I almost gotten myself the SPB381/383 mm200 version, but I think this new mm300 is even better.

@@ericho6963 yeah i agree a blue and green dial will definitely be on the way next year. What are your thoughts on the tarmac textured black dial ? I wish it was a lacquered black or a flat matte black dial like the older MM300’s , after looking at it for a while i’m not that convinced to buy one cuz of the texture of the dial .

The SLA021 is way better in every aspect but the new one will be less top heavy for sure. For me, this is a pale copy of the real MM. No monobloc case, no ceramic, no ratcheting clasp, no deep dial.

Just last year I reviewed the mm200 black gmt spb383 and I hoped seiko would do a non gmt variant. Long and behold it is an SLA version. Even better than expected!

Lol, exact sentiment here. somehow I like the mm200 bracelet design better due to 3 links design is timeless. 5 links (not real link just the look) look fancier yes. but 3 link just flawless.

No problem. I can’t wait to check them out too. I’ll be sure to bring the Sla021 for a quick comparison. Overall I’m hanging on to the Sla021. Still the one.

It does look like it’ll only have the dive clasp extension. It is an intriguing looking watch! Will also take a look at it when it arrives at my local ad.

@@KirbyYoung I just read an article from Fratello Watches and they say that the bezel is not ceramic but rather lacquered steel. No more ratcheting clasp, just 4 holes with the same infamous diver's extention of low end models. This is starting to be a lot of shortcomings compared to the SLA021 🙁

Same sentiments. And the wider dial does make it about even visually since the sla021 has a smaller dial diameter that gives the illusion it wears smaller. But either way this is like the seiko gmt diver spb 383 without the gmt function but better.

Completely missed that one. No wonder the dial did have something missing! Thanks for pointing that out. It sounds like that's another thing that people would have to consider before getting this watch. Like you said, I think it further solidifies the SLA021 and SNR029's legacy

@@KirbyYoung as you say, the text in the dial is not important...but a watch designed for Saturation diving with no Helium gas escape valve is a marvel of design because the watch has to prevent the Helium to get into the case...that is why a monocoque is used as a solution. In the SNR029 (eager to get mine soon!) the design is still better because they missed the monocoque solution in favor of a sealed caseback.

What’s so good about a ceramic bezel insert?

@@hammalamiri12 Virtually impervious to scratches and they don’t fade. Anodized aluminum inserts fade and scratch very easily.

What costs 3200 euro? The mm300 sla023? If so that is definitely expensive. Since you like blue search sbdx025 in chrono24. They might have cheaper one's. Sbdx025 is jdm reference of sla023. With regards to this new one, I wouldn't risk opening and regulating it. My sla021 of 5 years unserviced still runs within +/- 8 seconds range.

The 8L and different case finish will make it worthwhile. I have sold my 6R’s and 4R’s for SLA or Lx model and it is a different experience. Much better quality watches.

@@KirbyYoung I received the SLA079 today, and like it a lot. I will sell MM200's yes it is worth it to upgrade, the dial to me is much nicer, lume is applied better and the dial looks better and less cluttered without the GMT feature. The GMT has blueish tint to the lume I never liked that about that watch. On the wrist they feel identical. I will be selling my MM200 Blue dial, MM200 GMT, and another 6R watch probably the Limited Edition Willard . And yes everything aligns properly ...only negative is the movement is about +15 s/day but it is expected with Seiko. I am glad I didn't pull the trigger on SLA057 when they came out it was worth it to get this one a lot cheaper and I like that it says "Marinemaster" on the dial even though it isn't anything like the original MM300...

Congratulations! The watch sounds promising based on your opinions. Yes the biggest factor for me would also be the marinemaster name on the dial. The 057 is just way overpriced for basically the same feel and look. The everbrilliant is extremely lustrous but not worth the price.

Replaceable on the SLA079.

@@siddhant46s54 True enough. I think they are similar. Most I could think of in terms of difference is maybe the box. The JDM reference number is for ease of hunting specific watches in the JDM Market (chrono24, ebay Japan Sellers) they usually list it on the jdm reference that’s why it is hard to find them. But they typically sell lower than others, just have to consider tax.

Black bay 58 has a great bezel action, that’s about it. It’s the most overrated watch I’ve ever owned. Very basic finishing and the movement whilst good on paper 1 small knock against a door and it crashed. My eta 2892 / Seiko movements go through hell and still work well
