Same. Love the 70 but the 150 offers a bit more line handling, I think a better drag and cheaper?? Definitely my next reel purchase because I LOVE the mgl platform. That 70 very quickly became my fav Shimano. (My other is an SLX DC. Meh.)

In your opinion is the braking on curado 150 mgl just as good as chronarch mgl? I have chronarch mgl and 200k and I think braking on chronarch mgl is much better than 200k. Considering grabbing curado 150 mgl.

I’ve been thinking of getting the 70mgl hg for hard jerkbait/ flukes. 10lb floro on my 7’2 poison adrena rod. Have you fished weightless flukes with the 70mgl? I’m sure it’ll throw a vision 110 just fine, not sure about the weightless fluke though. I currently have all jdm Metanium Mgl reels

Is the Curado 150mgl frame actually smaller than the standard K or scorpion frame? I had imagined it would be a 200k frame with 150 size spool (similar to the scorpion mgl) I have the standard K, scorpion mgl, and chronarch mgl… trying to understand where the Curado mgl reel would fit in the lineup

@@adamchanthavong8187 150 MGL has a smaller frame then the 200K and Scorpion MGL. It's also a tiny bit lighter as a result. Seems like in Japan they just repurposed the 200K as an MGL reel with red paint. The Curado 150 MGL seems to be an entirely new platform. I haven't seen one disassembled, so I don't know if they made any other changes. The 200K has a bearing on the drive shaft, where it fits on to the frame, whereas the Scorpion MGL has a bushing. Not sure if it was just my model, but my Scorpion MGL came with two different spool bearings as well. A silver one on the tensioner side, and a black one on the brake side. The black bearing was garbage and stopped it from having that finger on butter feel. So I got some Boca Bearing hybrid ceramic bearings and replaced them, now its as smooth as butter. My 200K was smooth as butter right out of the gate.

Thanks for the compliments! I think this really is what Shimano was missing in their lineup to go head to head vs the Tatula SV. I need to get it on the water this spring to see if it operates nicely as it looks.

I've been having some issues with the drag on mine. I cleaned it and relubed, we'll see if it's improved.

@@PunchFishing What kind of issues? I have an MGL 70 and the drag keeps loosening itself. After so many casts or 2-3 fish the drag is as loose as a goose. I'm constantly pulling on the line to see if I still have tension like a paranoid freak. Have no idea what's causing this issue, bought the reel less than 6 months ago!

@@europeanian4205 I love the 70 but if you look at the reel there isn't much surface area for a strong drag vs. the 150. It's still sufficient for Jerkbaits/Topwater but I wouldn't recommend it for power fishing like pitching or flipping like I see a lot of fishermen are using it for.

The Zillion is just such a badass reel it’s hard to use anything else now but I do still like my Curado’s for heavy duty stuff down in Florida

Hi, did you try the curado mil with light lures? I am wondering if it can do a good job on 1/8 oz lures

@@leimingtu7160 I use mine for 1/4oz-3/4 oz. IMO, that's this reel's sweet spot. There are much better options for 1/8oz. I use my 18' Aldebaran mgl 30, the Curado 70mgl, and my BFS reels for 1/8.

I cant decide between 6.2 or 7.4 for my cranking glass rod, what should I get? Ordered 6.2 from Scheel and received a 8.1...So now I'm deciding what to do, return, keep or buy another one ha ha.

I never go less than 26 ipt on my Bait-casters, not even for my deep diving cranks or Spinnerbaits.

Both Daiwa & Shimano benefit from a proper greasing. I'm just not a huge fan of the tolerances (or lack thereof) in the Tatula line. The Daiwa Zillion and Steez feel really solid.

@@jameskrone9629 I use my 70 for Jerbait's. It feels like it was made for that but if you want to bomb a Jerkbait the 150 will give you more distance.

I agree the chronarch is my main jig skipper and I can skip better with it than any reel Ive ever owned.

I didn't talk about the Scorpion MGL 150 because A. you gotta order it from Japan and B. I've never touched one. Figured why confuse people.

Yeah, for some reason I thought it was slightly more expensive than the Curado K. I think for $200 the 150 MGL is amazing bang for the buck since it has basically the same weight spool as the 70.

@@PunchFishing exactly, I expect it to throw just as light of lures, but I also feel a lot safer on power fishing techniques with the bigger frame and gears. The only really uses I can think of for the 70 now are like a jerkbait/topwater rod where I’m going to wrap my hand around the whole reel

I have both and can tell you right now. The Bantam is a TANK and is better suited for flipping/pitching and high resistance baits like Spinnerbaits and deep crank whereas the Zillion is more user friendly, lighter and better suited for Jerkbaits. Topwater and lighter applications. Two different but great reels. I use the Zillion more just because of the weight. More than 1 Oz.difference. It's apples and oranges.

Since the spools are basically identical, I don't see why someone would spend the extra $ for the 70 anymore. Plus Shimano has a specific BFS reel these days, I think the Curado 70's days are numbered?

@@PunchFishing I still love the 70 for underhand cast's more than the 150. I use the 150 more for bombing baits.

I’ve seen a TJ81 episode about sealing your cork handles. I’m not sure if it is what I’m looking for. It seems like it is The logical thing to do.

I'm not a big fan of DC reels in general. That's a good comparison because of price points, but personally I'm going to take a Curado all day every day over any DC.

I'm not a braid to leader guy on casting, so I can't really say.

Tie an FG knot and you won't have any problems. That rumor mainly comes from Shimano reps...if ya know what I mean.

The T-wing system doesn't do well with braid to leader. I throw 12LB Floro on my Zillion SV TW and it's does great with that.

I've not owned the current generation Cronarch, so I can't really say.

@@PunchFishing thought he was talking about making a comeback. Shame because as a non bass fisherman some of the stuff he did was great, stuff bass guys wouldn’t usually talk about like finesse spinning reels or baitcasters for larger fish.

Honestly I'm not a big fan of DC reels in general. The additional bulk/weight isn't worth it to me. They are great at casting into the wind in adverse conditions, but that's about the only thing that's impressed me personally about DC's. Just not my thing.

True I only have the slx DC and the weight feels pretty good but I've held the other DC and ya they do have a bit of weight to them

@@PunchFishing sorry I may not have been clear. the curado 150 you reviewed has the brake wheel on the side numbered 1-4. Have you used that wheel and if so how best to use it. I just bought this reel and I am not sure. Thx

I have both and I can't give you the numbers but the 7.4 is plenty big and the 8.1 is really big. If you like big handles, these reels have it.

They just get "broken in".

A Zodias or Expired 7'2 MH would be a good all around rod to pair up with it. Loose how? the handle? The spool?

@@PunchFishing Ended up exchanging the reel… the handle and drag star had a lot of play. Even when I would spin it ;wouldn’t turn straight. I went with the zodias. Thanks!

@@PunchFishing I just think reels with colors on them are harder to match up with rods. Like, someone who's looking for a reel for their Dobyns Kaden (red) may not buy an SLX because of the blue, etc. I prefer reels that are black, silver, gray, white...basic colors that can pair with anything. However, the 150 MGL has a green tint to it (tho I can't really notice it), but I'm fine with that because I have mine on an Expride (that has no colors).

No, the scorpion has 4 brakes and is a little heavier I believe.
