Streaming is something I haven't been giving much thought to but I guess now that this thing's out, I might have to give it a try. Your channel is the 3rd one I've seen goin' on about it. So next time I got a few hundred bucks to blow, guess I know now where it's going! 😆👏🏼👏🏼🤘🏻
I have the mxn10 and tried the WiiM Pro Plus. I preferred the sound of the WiiM but kept the mxn10 because its app is a little better, it played DSD files, which the WiiM didn’t, its build quality was better and it had preset hardware buttons that I find very useful. I‘m tempted b the WiiM Ultra, too. It‘s impressive value for money.
Agree, but some people love to be first on the block with the newest gear. I’m not one of them. I like to see what users think after some time. Didn’t get my first CD until they’d been out ten years! 🎥😎
Crutchfield had Wiim Ultra listed with expected arrival date of July 5th. Yesterday I noticed that date has changed to Aug 10th now. Audio Advice has it available for Preorder also, but just shows expected date sometime in July.
I’ve taken a deeper look into the Wiim Ultra in the past month. Many connectivity options, multi streaming platforms supported. For me personally, the biggest features are the bass management & crossover capabilities and the room correction. Add the touchscreen, and it appears to be a winning option for those seeking a streamer. I’m seriously considering the Ultra over the Cambridge Audio MXN10 or AXN10. Plus, the Ultra costs less.
I respect that its taken you 1month to get to a stage where you are seriously considering the wiim ultra - you are clearly a very considered human. It took me less than 1 hour to pay for the preorder after it was released/launched! Dude it's a no brainer! Put Yr cash down - start counting down the days lol x
Two questions if I can ask: Isnt WiiM Ultra more or less same thing as Squeezebox Touch? Is it possible to get VU meters on screen of WiiM ULTRA? thank you
I haven't received mine yet but I do believe I have seen videos where it shows one view meter I don't think the screen's quite wide enough to accommodate a decent sized pair of meters and it also has a spectrum analyzer which gets me excited.
Hi. I bought the WiiM mini 2 years ago. Fab bit of kit. Then noticed it having awful problems with connecting to my WiFi. (Sky). I thought it must be broke (kids in the house, it’s the size of a puck). The 2nd one also wouldn’t connect to my Sky WiFi. I emailed WiiM, who did reply promptly saying they are aware of connection difficulties with Sky Q broadband WiFi but that I’d have to change settings within my broadband. Not a chance. Above my pay grade and way too complex for me. I’ve sold one WiiM mini and given one away. Both working perfect on non sky WiFi set ups. I’ve since bought a marantz PM7000n. No connection issues at all. I really hope that WiiM ensure it not an issue on products going forward. I was not prepared to risk getting the WiiM pro or pro plus sadly. And will not get this either until I can be assured of connection. Cheers. Dave.
@@bristolwoodburners81yep. I did the hard wire part. But from the router to the location of my stereo was not practical at all. So it had to go. But before a sky q WiFi update it was fine. No issues at all.
@@gaycha6589 yep. My friends checked it on their internet suppliers. Apparently it’s a Sky Q issue. What I can’t really understand is that they know about it, and acknowledged it via email. Why, knowing the UK has a huge sky internet usage, don’t they upgrade their firmware to accommodate it?
The price-point is interesting .. they must be looking to replace the WIIM Amp entirely as the price is within $30 of each other. Not sure of the purpose. For a main system I would prefer a decent 2nd hand AV and add a WIIM Mini if you really need steaming and be able to have more than a stereo speaker setup. For a small room or bedroom connected to a PC I would use a DOUK Audio at a 1/3rd of the price. I hope they have addressed the issues that continues to plague the WIIM AMP version... there is a gap in the market but I am not sure there is a market in that gap!! 🎶
Just returned my second Eversolo because of dropouts (Regardless of static Ip addresses and it being hardwired) Hopefully this Wiim Ultra will be a one up from the Eversolo or it will go back from whence it came as well.
No, I am not getting the WiiM Ultra, because I've just started playing the lottery again (!), therefore, I am planning to get the heaviest Mcintosh tube amp next week, the flagship Wharfedale speakers made of marble, and some high-end turntable with a golden platter and whatnot. I hope I really win the lottery this time, because I've had enough of my plastic, all-in-one desktop sound system with a built in dish washer and hair dryer...
Hi Another interesting video , looks pretty good, but can’t understand that if it’s $339 in USA why is it £339 over here , should be around £267 plus packing and shipping it’s the same as seller’s sennheiser hd6xx over here trying to sell at excess £230 upwards whereby get it drop with post and shipping cost about £154 at the moment . Regards mark
Why do so many people not like wiim ? The new wiim is future proof I think because of its ability to to achieve up to 32 bits when streaming but I don’t think there are services to accommodate that ability ?? Its OS is really user friendly . Y do so many people dish on it ? I don’t think anything more pricey has this nice of a OS . Great video and thank you so much for
I guess a lot of people are stuck in prejudiced opinions, without ever experiencing the product itself. Imo, it's a great concept with down to earth prices, excellent performance AND great support.
Good afternoon. One question, I have an Onkyo 9.2 ch receiver. with Dolby Atmos. I listen to the Tidal service, Amazon music and Sirius Xm through apps through an Amazon device connected to my receiver. How could a Wiim device connected to my receiver be useful? Would the audio improve in these services or would the sound quality be the same? thank you!
From one welshman to another! I'm going to buy a pair of lintons or jbl 4329p speakers when I move in a few weeks. Is this device all I need to play my music over tidal? Do the speakers plug into this device and job done? Or do I need to buy an amp which connects to the speakers and this device? Trying to understand this whole hifi setup game
Unfortunately no XLR out like the Eversolo, Geshelli, Cambridge Audio,...? Why? For active speakers it might have been very nice to have, since it features anyway a pre-amp abd you could do a super minimalistic setup with just the speakers and this, and done.
So if I have the jbl 4339p, all I need is to connect them to this device and stream my tidal playlist off my phone? What about if I have non powered speakers?
Thanks for the review. This new Wiim Ultra looks like a step forward to AV receiver functionality (eARC, room calibration, subwoofer output, phono input), while I expected Streamer+DAC+Preamp part getting major improvement instead. There was a very good point in one of the device reviews: “All the other components around the chip ES9038Q2M matters more than the chip itself.” Recently I purchased, tested and returned back to a store Wiim Pro Plus (with AKM 4493SEQ DAC), because I did not like how it reproduced drums and LF spectrum in my setup. Usually I listen to lossless Tidal tracks. No surprise, Wiim Pro Plus outperformed Denon AVC-X3700H streaming+DAC+amp contour, but still was quite behind my golden reference among DACs - RME ADI-2 DAC + ”good quality amplifier from 80s” +Dali ikon 6 speakers. I know, this is not fair to compare 260eur DAC to 1000eur one, but once you get a pro level DAC for your workplace to be used with a laptop and Sennheiser headphones it is very difficult to compromise streaming+DAC+preamp link in a leaving room setup. Now this new Wiim Ultra will cost over 400eur in our location. Should be not the best choice for those, who have already AV receiver and stereo amplifier and just looking for a good quality streamer+DAC to upgrade a system.
@@r423sdex eh ! yes indeed it does but I want to run it into a better dac, and usb gives the best connection to do so .. If you're happy with dac onboard lovely jubbly..
I am not a fan of touch screens, prefer actual buttons as I hate fingerprints on the screens, that said my PM7000N does all the streaming I need and I’ll stick with that :)
Aw shucks, 10/100 LAN? Damn, need to dig out those old switches from 1994 now! Back to 2024, still no Wifi 7 chip, from 2023? I don't mind comparing this with my SMSL DO100 Pro if I can get a loaner!
Hope all the reviewers jumping on the bandwagon of “groundbreaking DAC/Streamer class D amp of the week” have sufficient medical coverage for the physiotherapy required when they tumble off at the next unannounced sharp left hand turn.
@@r423sdex You don’t know me well enough. I was just speaking to the current trend of sponsored YT reviewers / influencers to fall all over themselves in gushing over the increased pace of release of “new and improved” models of budget DACs, and most recently “giant killler” class D amps with the flavour of the month chip; but if one has to explain a joke, it certainly didn’t work. Back in my wannabe audiophile days ( late ‘70- to mid ‘80s) we joked about getting motion sickness from riding the upgrade carousel - “2 foot-itis” as my friends with boats used to say.
Interesting toy, it's cheap, so many people will satisfy their curiosity. I'm not really enthusiastic about these all-in-ones, I don't think they're a long-term solution. They're cheap, so when a new version comes on the market, you're automatically tempted to buy a new one...etc
