Thank you for all these videos man. I recently acquired a 79' in the sexy blue and you've helped me understand exactly what needs to be done and how to tackle it! THANK YOU!!!!
Those guys in salt country would shit bricks to get a deal like this. Good job, and congrats on admitting you are a toyotaholic. They truly still are like everywhere out here in Oregon.
Good find. I'm original owner of a 1980 out of Portland. 20R, 4spd, 4.38 gears. Running 10.50x33R15 on 3" lift. These earlier trucks are solid if maintained. My 20R is still running strong after 40 years. You've got quite a bit of work to do but I'm sure the end result will be a great classic Toyota 4wd truck.
Hey man how good are you with these trucks I have first gen 78 and having trouble with tail light wiring just started build after 5 years of it sitting it started right up #unkillable
I'm pretty good with lights, but what is going on with tour build? Getting an fsm is a good idea, especially if your new to these trucks wiring. You can email me at chriswilhelmart@gmail.com
My 1983 is grinding when going into 3rd gear but only after warmed up, do you think it could be clutch related or is it likely the syncros in the transmission?
@@legacynorthwest1249 i did this weekend and yep its the synchro... looks like I'll be saving up to have it replaced or repaired. Any recommendations for a toyota mechanic near olympia wa?
There was no SR5 in that truck in 1980. I have the 1980 sales brochure. Tach, tilt, center gauges ect were standard on the "sport" model. The standard model was call the deluxe. SR5 was not an option till 1981 with the L50 transmission(5 speed). SR5 specifically meant 5 speed during the early years. Later it became just an options package. The ASCO's are factory and are identical to the aisins.
I have an 82, which has the updated cluster and face lift for the first generation. I ended up pulling the cluster out and I went through everything electrical on the back of the cluster and noticed it had a bad ground Connection on the back of the controller for the tac, and I also used some super lightweight oil and lubricated the shaft for the tac. Worked perfectly after. In the winter time up in Iowa it takes a bit for the tac to come alive but once I have heat in the cab it comes right to life.
