I remember in the slam mag back in the day it said he was a 6'4" 7th grader... and he was 6'4" once he got to the league lol.. this was his first stunted growth
I remember mayo bein like 14 or 15 in 7th grade, & I don't remember him bein baby Jordan but I do remember everyone thinkin he was gon be the next kobe
No cap he went to Rose Hill in Ashland, KY and led them to state as an 8th grader. He’s a grade above me so reading about someone a grade ahead of me dominating varsity I was amazed. I still have the PUNKS magazine that came out when we were in high school. Also the referee flopped like a fish out of water, fact
AndreaBaixinho Lmfao you’re fucking blind buddy Best shooting forms of all time in terms of looks alone are Ray Allen Klay Thomson Peja Stojakovic Carmelo Anthony MJ/Kobe No disrespect to OJ use to love this dude from USC up to his first season with the Bucks... feel sorry he didn’t turn out to be better. Also no disrespect to your choices but if we talking about looks Allan Houston shit had a ugly release but it was butter. Glen Rice was a gunner but he shot like a robot kinda stiff but still looked good. Glen Rice Chris Mullins Mike Bibby Steph Curry JR Smith My list is purely based off of how prettty the shot looks not actual shot percentages.
I remember guarding oj mayo at camp and he crossed and dog walked me so bad i decided to become an honor student. I had never seen skill like his that close.
OJ was one of my all-time favorite players... weird choice, I know, but this guy really could have been something... I really hope he can come back, I have seen that he trained hard and is trying to get back in shape playing basketball overseas... his ban is almost over. I hope that I can see him back on an NBA court
He received a 2 year ban on July 1, 2016. He's been eligible for reinstatement for over a year and made an effort to get back into the league last summer.. www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba/report-oj-mayo-still-holding-out-hope-for-nba-comeback/ar-BBO6GuY
I played against him, Daquan Cook, David Lighty, Mike Conley, Greg Oden, Bill Walker, Patrick Beverly, Derrick Rose, Eric Gordon, etc..In middle school and High School. The best by far was OJ Mayo when we were kids.
I didnt know he almost went to Kansas state...that would mean bill Walker, michael Beasley, and o.j. mayo on the same team....holy shit what a team that would've been
I remember when he was at USC and Jennings gave USC a verbal commitment at the beginning of his sr yr at Oak Hill. That would’ve been a nasty backcourt as well
When Mayo first stepped onto an NBA court, he made an immediate impact - this dude was dropping buckets left and right, and he looked like he was going to be a star for years to come. But somewhere along the way, things took a turn for the worse. Mayo started to let himself go, getting out of shape and losing the edge that had made him so deadly in his rookie year. And before you knew it, he was falling off from his first season, and he never bounced back from that. It's a damn shame, really, because Mayo had all the tools to be a special player in this league. He could score from anywhere on the floor, he had a killer crossover, and he played with an intensity that was infectious. But somewhere along the way, he lost that fire, and his career suffered as a result. Now, don't get it twisted - Mayo was still a solid player in the league for a number of years. But he was never as good as he was in his rookie season, and that's a real shame. When you watch highlights of O.J. tearing it up back in the day, it's clear that this dude was destined for greatness. But for whatever reason, it just didn't pan out like that. At the end of the day, O.J. Mayo was better than his career. And while we'll always wonder what could have been if he'd stayed in top form, one thing is certain - the dude could ball, and his impact on the game won't soon be forgotten.
He was very talented I think fame and the attention got to his head. Then he didn’t want to leave the drugs and street life alone. You can’t do both and everybody who tries always loses it’s like a battle sometimes. This was a great video. God always sends injury before he sit you down for good that’s why it’s not good to be cocky and arrogant. You have to humble yourself and be disciplined.
I’m late to this one But OJ Mayo was a Gawd in HS!! Unstoppable a Real Grown Man!! USC was a Terrible Choice But Him And Rudy in Memphis was Deadly!! I Called em OJ the Juiceman Cause he Literally had the Juice!! Thought he Couldn’t Miss!! True Talent
I felt like he never really got necessarily better since high school. And he was definitely more of a combo guard and not like you said a MJ or T-Mac type of player.
I still have the slam magazine when OJ Mayo was on the cover. I never liked OJ Mayo when I was a 13 year kid in 2007 but it's a really shame how his career never got to the all-star potential that he had
With him not being able to not separate himself from drugs and getting banned, makes it very difficult to improve and overcome the growth stunts mentioned in the video.
dude was so skilled and would surprise you with his hops at times....its like he was too...relaxed...you know what i mean? He didnt seem to be able to get intense....like he was too composed/too relaxed. If he had more drive, he could have been a combo guard version of Kobe
Mad hype came with this dude. Only second to Lebron in the last 20 years too be hyped since high school for real. I knew about OJ Mayo since he was like 14-15. Didn't live up too it
MrZaShun his hype was crazy but not like Lebron’s. His senior yr Michael Beasley, Eric Gordon, and Drose were ranked ahead of him on rivals.com. Mayo was ranked 4th in his class. He was number 1 until after the summer going into his senior yr.
MrZaShun nope not true go to rivals.com and check it yourself. Maybe ESPN rankings had that order you said but regardless he wasn’t hyped as bron. Bron was number 1 hs player in nation. Mayo wasn’t
For a brief moment here in Memphis the future looked bright as the starting 5 were Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph, Rudy Gay, OJ Mayo, and Mike Conley.... They had all the potential in the world
Mayo should have had a similar career as Derozen. At worst I saw him as being a Jerry Stackhouse type volume scorer. Peaked in HS and seemed like he had hit his ceiling by the time he was in college. Probably didnt help that he was always asked to be the top scorer on his teams in his teens because while he was great at creating scoring chances for himself he was a below average playmaker for a shooting guard. Never happened for him. Never really got the chance to be a #1 scorer at the NBA, mostly because he was a pretty inefficient shooter and didnt get the line enough. Also, his defense was lackluster even though his athleticism could have made him exceptional against guards.
Damn I use to admire Ovington J'Anthony's game as a youngin. He only averaged 13 pts in the PR league?! Aw man - he never coming back to the league smh. What a disaster. He looked terrible in that wifebeater with the leather snapback hat, smh.
that 24 hour gym and they have Hoopers out there because I’m not gonna lie ,we was by a Kroger in a rallies and there was a park not the way and I see one of the nicest alley hoops of all time in Ohio it was a no look pass That accidentally hit the back of the guy who was dribbling foot in alley hoop to the dude that dunk that was a mistake and we all went wild like what the fuck …
🛑STOP calling these players the NEXT ________ or ____ 🛑 Not only it puts a lot of pressure on them to be just as good if not bettter than the player everyone said he’s the next of....
