We would all like our deceased heros to make just one more work of art. Alas this is simply not possible. Achiements in Film, Music, Sculpture, Architecture, Science and indeed masterful Painting are the the stuff of legend. As humans, we are in awe of what we have deemed worthy of preserving. If I had studied the work of Rembrandt all my life, understood his processes, become a skilled painter, chosen a subject to paint that would be in keeping with his style, I would simply be immitating his work. It may be in His style but it is not His work. That is what we have here. A.I. can only hope to create a unique comparison of the artist's work. It can't resurrect it.

The point is to not replicate humanity, but to replace it.

Art is a bout expressing your heart and soul. Having a machine create art is killing what it is to be human. I wouldn,t touch it

I kinda wanna make an AI to generate kitsch paintings over simple prompts, which also is able to rate paintings based on the Bork Nerdrum's ranking criteria

The problem is they've approached this as a 'craft' project, not as 'art'. By averaging out what tthey deem as 'Rembrandtness' they haven't made something new but something generic, soul-less and unsatisfying. It's like feeding all of Mozart's work into an algorithm and having it spit out something 'Mozart-ish'.

They should've chose a robot as the subject 🤖... and then burned it.

The problem with so called experts is everything they say about Rembrandt or other old masters is only opinion , No one can actually say what he / they were thinking or the actual way they worked because no one is from that time and therefore didn’t know them but they still try and say they know everything about the master and how they worked . In my opinion and it is only my opinion there are no experts only pretentious people that like the sound of their own voices The point of painting / art is to express your ability to put down on a surface or to sculpt something from within you from your being from your soul and what you create is as you say done with love for what you’re creating no matter your skill level. I love Rembrandt and copy his style . AI has no place in this personal individual world of art

C'mon... That's a print not a painting. This "AI creates a painting" thing is just the usual AI hype to get free advertising and more and more institutional funding. The funny thing is that they are trying to fool people into this using a guy talking about portraying human emotions who can't even use his face properly to portray his own human emotions.

More like Rembrain't amirite?.... But seriously, there is so much wrong with this. As I was listening, I tried to imagine what the point of it is, and I think the only thing it actually has progressed is AI technology, which, shure is cool, I guess...(🙄) But there is nothing worthwhile to be said about it in an artistic context.

Just a bad copy. The lack of the soul of the artist that can’t be translated into data. And the improvised moments to be found in any masterpiece. Could the machine emulate “Rembrandt.” without Rembrandt?
