With its supply lines under severe strain and threat, NATO takes a risky and perilous step by launching a strike inside Russia, aiming to disrupt the advancing invasion. The Next World War is a documentary series that takes a terrifying and realistic look at a hypothetical Third World War scenario.
Creator notes and commentary:
- First, a thank you to Robert Wilkerson (call sign “Skinner”), a former harrier pilot, for his insight and information for this and future episodes, and for catching an important error in THIS episode.
- ERROR discovered: In real-life, NATO SACEUR and US Commander EUCOM are actually the same person, wearing two hats. I have them as two characters. Viewers and a friend of mine caught the error, but it was after I posted, so... that one's on me! Sorry folks.
- I couldn't find the successor to the Marine AAV (the new ACV), so I had to improvise.
- I don't have General uniforms for US, UK, etc. - so I had to go with what I got.
- The Russian missiles taking down "glide bombs"... weren't glide bombs. I had to improvise with drones.
- The F35s are dropping JASSMs for the story, though visually they look like bombs - thus calling "rifle" instead of "bombs away".
- Does this airstrike scenario cover all the bases for reality? Nope. To keep the story moving, I couldn't include everything - but it gives enough of the tension and flavor of what's plausible to make it exciting and watchable. Would there be more downed NATO planes in reality? Maybe, but my thinking was that most of the weapons dropped would be dropped while still well inside the Baltics, reducing risk. The losses would mostly be bombs and missiles being knocked down while heading in.
Lastly, please keep in mind that the equipment, “actors”, uniform rank, etc., in my video may not be perfect. Though I try to get it right, sometimes there isn’t a mod or 3D model for what’s needed. Or, I might get something wrong. I’m a One Man Show here and I’m doing my best, so I ask for some grace. That said, if you see something that I might be able to address in future episodes, let me know. Constructive criticism is ALWAYS welcome.

Hmm... so, uh... "Rifle" is for air-to-ground-missiles like the Maverick, not so much for bombs. If the intent there was for it to be an anti-radiation missile, it's "Magnum". If I recall, "bombs" tend to be either "pickle" or as one airman told me the pilots just say "weapons away" (not sure how accurate that last bit is, but it's what I remember being told). That said, this was definitely a better episode... but it still has some issues here and there I'll point out. The addition of drones overwhelming NATO jamming equipment is interesting, but mainly because I'm not fully sure how that works. I feel something's off there, but hey, at least it's explained. NATO's lack of escalation is also... *interesting* but a bit inconsistent. You're fighting Russians in NATO member states, that's already escalation enough. This isn't Red Storm Rising where Russia spent a while trying to set it up so some NATO members felt like the war had been started by Germany and thus didn't involve themselves. Here they invaded directly without proper cassus belli. Striking within Russian lines would be done fairly often. They already did it on several occasions, and even if those "were far from view", they were still direct strikes into Russia. Then there's the mission itself... It *felt* like Russian aircraft suddenly took off to intercept the incoming wave of NATO fighters, but I *think* the idea was that most were already airborne? Interesting note in that the missiles were being guided in by AWACS which is accurate and a nice touch, but it felt a bit strangely presented. Overall, the series is improving... Wait, Russia struck the US directly? ... I'll save my comments for that one when it happens.

One thing thats super minimal as I figure your prob just using RHS spawn units. However the US commander would more than likely be wearing a JPC or some kind of plate carrier not the (POS) 2nd gen IOTV if he is wearing body armor at all and def not UCP lol. Edit: Just looked at your commentary more than likely staff officers would be "slick" uniform wise and not wearing rank in a shooting war like this. Moreso to gain sympathy and commonality with the men than anything else

Is this realistic? Going by what's happening in the Russo Ukraine War, the Russians aren't as inept as being made out here. On the contrary, NATO-EU supplied and manned weapon systems aren't putting up an impressive performance. Russian air defences are quite effective.

Absolutely love your series. Just the writing alone is top notch. Love the innovative use of the game engine. I have a question though about the scenario itself: do you think that, given what we've seen from Russian forces in Ukraine, that you are overstating how effective Russian equipment is, and how competent Russian forces are on the battlefield? It feels like your videos are acting upon the pre-Ukraine invasion assessment of the Russian Military, that they were much more highly regarded. I also feel that your fictional timeline ignores the weakened condition of the entire Russians military post-Ukraine war. I doubt that Russia will be fielding brigades of fresh-off-the-production-line T-90's anytime in the next decade, even if the Ukraine war ended now. I just am skeptical that Russia has either the modern equipment or the elite troops available to mount a direct invasion of any NATO countries in the Baltics. I think NATO forces, being superior in technology, troop quality, and being fresh, would kick Russian forces up and down. Thanks for your work!

nice you’re adding in lessons from the Ukraine war. seems increasingly likely that any future war will involve waves of mass-produced drones and low survivability for troops and vehicles. one also hopes that NATO is stockpiling more javelins while still supporting Ukraine.
