All I'm saying is that if they do set a team up in London is HAS to be called the Redcoats. They'd be the instant bad guys of the league (which England loves to be in sports) and they'd have an instant rivalry with the Patriots.

The NBA is planning to potentially put an expansion in Mexico City. That would work for the NFL as well. I'm for international expansion in all pro sports, with that being said I agree that we should start with the Americas first. To use an analogy the NFL is like an expanding city, it would be better to expand on the nearest land and not a spot with thousands of miles of ocean between them.

Im a Londoner who goes to every London game and at least 1 in Philly every season. I don’t think a franchise or division here would work here. Most fans are genuine fans but its dominated by Americans, American expats, Germans and Dutch. Not to mention it feels like 50% of the seats are given to celebrities and social media influencers to promote it. Half time show is forced and i dont think we can sell out wembley every Sunday after a few weeks. I say keep this going as an annual treat for us, lose the celebrities and the pageantry. 8 games is plenty for any city. Fix the season ticket problem for real fans

I think it could work, definitely NOT a division though. There are some tough logistical issues, but the NFL has handled worse before. Also, there are 7 MILLION (not just american) fans in the UK, which is more than a a good amount of NFL teams. If i think the nfl is expanding. I think its going to probably be in america and south america though. (Im also an eagles fan btw)

100% this. The novelty will die off, people won’t be willing to give up time watching their “soccer” teams or rugby etc to take on American Football. In the uk you just don’t really grow up with a passion for American football, it’s not played in schools or the parks, you rarely see attire in stores unless it’s like a raiders hat that people don’t even know what it really is. You have to acquire and interest in the sport. For me I got into it because I have American relatives, I’ve watched the Super Bowl every year for 15+ years, I can’t really sit through regular games because it just doesn’t keep you glued like soccer does. That’s another issue for the European market. We have this new ELF league in Europe, unfortunately with no Uk team right now, they should monitor how this does, and potentially form a post season tour + tournament were ELF teams take on CFL and NFL teams etc for an American football version of the Club World Cup. Of course you’d expect the nfl teams to steam roll it but it’d be fun nevertheless.

Expansion to Canada and Mexico would be way more realistic. But if they wanted to add a conference in the EU, then most likely every team would be in England. Germany also loves the NFL and would be a second country as an option. Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Netherlands, and Denmark are also options, but most other countries in the EU don't have big NFL fans.
@dave-xp9qk

1. expansion would almost never happen in canada per conflict with the cfl 2. expansion would almost NEVER happen in mexico 3. the nfl has been planning european expansion for years 4. germany has more nfl fans (and more avid nfl fans) than the uk 5. a london franchise has been in discussion since circa 2018 6. during the nfl europa days EVERY TEAM was located in germany because the uk spain and nederlands franchises were insolvent (though the claymores and monarchs were at least decently popular) and 7. germany is the only nation in europe which has proven capacity to FULLY support a big league franchise 8. especially the city of frankfurt which LOVES american football for some reason 9. germany spearheads an existing european american football league (the EFL) which has grown rapidly in recent years 10. england has almost nothing of that caliber

Canada wouldn't be worth it, it's not really a new broadcast market and is already highly NFL saturated. People who want to watch the NFL in Canada are all already doing so. They don't care about attendance since that is small fry. London would be more profitable since it would open up new broadcast deals and value to an 'unsaturated' market. (Over 10 million people live in London) It would also be the beach-head in trying to develop more interest and even teams elsewhere in Europe. It might not be viable to have a team on it's own in London but in any plan for a European division London is an obvious choice, particularly since the owner of Tottenham Hotspur, Daniel Levy, made sure to design the new stadium in such a way that it could easily operate as an NFL stadium with a retractable pitch and giant NFL-grade locker rooms. The retractable pitch means that it can hosts Tottenham matches and NFL games with a days notice and without the NFL games adding wear and tear to the pitch. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o9kDe1eOn64.html Finding stadiums will be the big problem for the NFL here. The NFL is really set on every game being a big high event in a large well-equipped stadium, they won't accept playing in smaller venues but will the larger ones either want or be able to accommodate their schedule?. Building their own one seems like a really big risk. (And likely quite difficult with it almost certainly being well away from the city centre of whatever city they're operating in)

What an awesome and interesting video. Is am from Cologne(Germany), the city of the football (soccer) club you took the clips from and I would love to have a division here in Europe and I think it will actually work out this time. Just by looking at all the London games and now this year the Munich game took it on a complete different level, they sold out 72.000 tickets in a couple of seconds, over 1.5 million people wanted to buy a ticket. The hype about football is big here, but just like Rodger Godell said, the biggest problem is making competitive teams. If you look at the ELF it’s not competitive at all, but I think the NFL will figure something out and I’ll hope I can go to an away game to the US in couple of years with my European team. Btw I hope it will be my hometown team the Cologne centurions :)

The ELF starts to bring more and more fans to the local teams, the Leguage home game average is still at 4.000 but growing. But both Leguages are no match to the NFL. Europe needs some big Investors behind a team and bring some American stars oversees and build a team around them. Great video! As a Brit who has gradually got more into the NFL over the last 4 years I would love to see an NFL Europe team. Instead of picking a team at random to support we can support a home team. The world is a lot more globalised than years past. NFL highlights on RU-vid for instance really do engage the fans! Over here as the "afternoon" kicks off don't finish until gone 12:30 on a Monday morning and prime time games just do not exist. The two things I think the NFL can learn from Europe sports are 1. Local rivals, when Man u and Man city or Arsenal Tottenham play it takes over the city. The teams hate each other! If there were to be a shake up of divisions let's put the jets and giants together, rams, chargers together. Get them to play twice a year and let the city rivalry blossom. Not just historical rivalry as we have those as well (Man U, Liverpool. Or Arsenal Man u for example) but location rivalry regardless of how well the teams are playing is always a big game! 2. in the last week's of the season the bottom of the league is almost more entertaining than the top. With the risk of getting relegated to a lower division teams will do anything to stay up. Not sure how the NFL could achieve this with set divisions. Unless you just split the 34 teams in 2. Get rid of divisions and just play people in your league (1 or 2). And then you have the top 8 teams from league 1 fighting for a playoff bracket, top 3 teams from league 2 fighting for a promotion place and everyone else at the bottom end of league 1 fighting to not to get relegated. The draft order would have to be worked on, but that would be interesting. It means that every game matters, and at the end of the season there are very little dead rubbers
@javierfernandez2576
@javierfernandez2576 Год назад
love to see a brit that’s an nfl fan 🙌🏽. But as an american I don’t think the second point is the best of recommendations, as the teams are playing for the top picks in the draft. I like the first point tho and I’ve always wanted them to do that
@MustacheDLuffy
@MustacheDLuffy Год назад
1. Actually that’s probably the push to have a NFL division in Europe. They’re filled with the biggest rivalries and are heavily geographically based. If London proves to be successful to football I can see them having 2 different NFL teams in London. Based on rivalries I could see their being another team in Manchester and those 2-3 teams being in the same division. 2. No clue how it works. In the NBA/MLB/NHL they have a dart lottery for the top pick so that teams wouldn’t intentionally try to lose to get it. It doesn’t hurt rivalries (except ego). I know some bears fans who wouldn’t mind being 2-15 as long as the 2 wins were against the packers.

As an American that loves your version of football, picking your side is a lovely rite of passage that you shouldn't deny yourself. It's a fun process. You get established fans vying for your support, you get to learn about all the teams, and even a bit of geography. You also find yourself tied to the place. For example, I chose Portsmouth FC (when they were still fan-owned) and now I'm quite enamored with England's south coast. I would HATE to see a couple of American premier league clubs. They would just be in NY and LA anyway - two of America's worst cities 🤮. I LOVE that I got to choose Pompey through a long process instead of being born into a team like I was with other sports teams here.

It would involve a lot of challenges for every corner of the NFL overall as a business, but it is the next logical step. It’s a matter of when, not if. In terms of the culture, it will build around it with its own local traditions like different parts of the US does. You would need a specialized lawyer to really dig into this but I think lot of the practices of the NFL are pretty illegal in the EU. And labour law and regulations are completely different in any European country in comparison with the US. And make no mistakes, the EU will go after them hard if they think the NFL is not compliant.

Great video Frank. I'm a Patriots fan and a "season" ticket holder for the international series games in London and have gone to almost every game since 2011. What I think makes the London games a success is it is a destination event, fans travel at great expense from all over the UK and Europe to attend the games. Would that business model work with 8 or 9 home games? I'm not sure, I certainly don't think they could sell out Wembley with 85k seats that many times a year, but that's why the NFL partnered with Tottenham Hotspur and the 60k capacity there is much more realistic (and has the advantage of being designed with NFL in mind such as dedicated locker rooms and better sightlines). Would I stop supporting the Patriots to follow a London team? That question I really don't know yet.

That's always been my doubt... I'm a Giants fan. Went to a few Wembley and it is a great way for fans to get their NFL fix but every team is represented in the stands. But I would never give up supporting the Giants just because a Lomdon team has popped up and I imagine most of the UK based fans are the same.

If one or more of the teams ends up winning they will get tons of fans, bandwagon or otherwise. Even a Wildcard berth would put it over the top. If a Europe team ever won the super bowl? I think the argument would be laid to rest. I mean if I ever saw the London Mushypeas vs the Frankfurt Sausages in a playoff game I would call that a win.

The biggest Issue I see, is the time, a full NFL game can take 3 hours, which is in stark contrast to a Soccer game that takes half that time. The NFL would need a way to make the games shorter

Overall, really good, but I do have questions about one thing you mentioned in regards to the divisions, would it be a 4 team division in Europe, or would the NFL adopt 6 team divisions. Because if it’s the latter then the European teams would have their own division and if it’s the former then it would be weird logistically with the playoffs and conference alignment.

Me again! The sections that didn’t return to their seats at the start of the 2nd half are the rich seats. They get a three course dinner and drinks so don’t really care about the game. No proper fan sits in those seats, they’re kept for sponsors, guests and out of touch rich people.

Give the teams proxy locations to play for a certain number of weeks a year (preferably close to some nice expensive hotels) , and make the remaining games in the European team's cities. I guarantee you if this is marketed correctly a NFC Europe and AFC Europe would bring something special to the gridiron. This way, with proxy (host city) locations for a few weeks at least , I think that'd be a good transition. Reduce transit costs, and also keeps the players in a way where they can find consistency in routine. Hell, make one of the cities San Diego. I'm sure the future London Royals AND the abandoned mission town will thank the league.
@167thSpartan
@167thSpartan Год назад
The best way to do this would be to add 8 teams in total, 1 extra team per division. The current 17 game schedule is 6 games (home + away) against same division rivals, 4 games from an AFC division, and 4 games from an NFC division. That's 14 games, with 3 random ones thrown in. Just convert 2 of those 3 games into another home+away couplet from a new Division rival. This is just me laying out a fantasy scenario ignoring actual logistics, but I'd like to place a team into Toronto, Canada London, England Frankfurt, Germany Mexico City, Mexico Tokyo/Osaka, Japan And then there's 3 that could go in the Midwest and Hawaii

The biggest thing they will have to overcome is jet lag and low energy levels for the teams in Europe. I think that’s a significant concern, and also the teams that will need to travel there. You are going to either need to extend the season or spread out the jet lag among teams as evenly as possible

As a european, I dont think this will be happening in the near future. They will slowly build up audiences in europe with these one off games, set up partnerships with bars, betting places, build out some basic permanent infrastructure as ways to introduce people to the sport, support some youth leagues, a LOT of adverisementa, and THEN, in i’d say 10-15 years, a european division. Even then I think it’ll be very german dominated, which does make me sad as an eastern european, but germans love their NFL snd ELF more than anyone else.

If they expand I think it will be: London, Berlin, Dublin, Paris, Rome, Toronto, Mexico City, and Austin. NFC: West: LAR, SF, AZ, SEA, Austin North: MN, GB, DET, CHI, Toronto Mountain: LAC, LV, KC, DEN, Mexico City South: TB, NO, ATL, CAR, TEN AFC: Central: BAL, CIN, CLE, PIT, IND East: DAL, NYG, PHI, WAS, JAX Colonial: MIA, BUF, NE, NYJ, HOU Europa: London, Berlin, Rome, Dublin, Paris There could be a lot of improvements, this is just an idea.

Good start, but switch Mountain NFC to AFC (AFC heritage teams) with East AFC to NFC (NFC heritage teams), and put a team in Vancouver in the NFC west instead of Austin, Also switch JAX and HOU, so JAX and MIA are in the same division, and DAL and HOU are in the same division. NFC: West: LAR, SF, AZ, SEA, Vancouver North: MN, GB, DET, CHI, Toronto East: DAL, NYG, PHI, WAS, HOU South: TB, NO, ATL, CAR, TEN AFC: Central: BAL, CIN, CLE, PIT, IND Mountain: LAC, LV, KC, DEN, Mexico City Colonial: MIA, BUF, NE, NYJ, JAX Europa: London, Berlin, Rome, Dublin, Paris

NFL teams in Europe would be cool. The logistics, player satisfaction, and competitiveness would be the biggest problems however.
@jamesevans938
@jamesevans938 9 месяцев назад
The logistics would be difficult but if the nfl is able to get a another agreement with Tottenham Hotspur’s then they will have a stadium (the Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium is a dual purpose stadium for football(soccer) and the NFL which has a retractable soccer pitch to reveal a NFL field. It would then probably mean the teams in America would have to fund all the costs for going to England all though the nfl could continue to fund the trip. While the logistics of getting teams to England would be difficult I think the logistics of the England team going to America would be harder since they would most likely play all 8 games in a row. So the England team would need to set up a home base in America for training and other purposes the easiest way to have this would be if a NFL team is willing to share their facilities but the next easiest way to use the facilities of a college team and the hardest/most expensive way is if the England built their own facilities in America and after the team have a home base in America the logistics would be similar of any other team playing a away game It’s would be difficult but it certainly isn’t impossible although the players would probably be the best payed players in the league since most of them would likely be American. But problems can be ironed out so a franchise in England would certainly be possible england is the most likely country in Europe to get a franchise first and then other European countries would come after if it even is on the table since I am only aware of the NFL wanting a franchise in England at the moment and I haven’t heard of the nfl wanting a franchise in other European countries like Germany for example although Germany is the most likely place for a second European team
