For those interested in the advanced stats and information: Antti Niemi finished the season 2016-17 season with a -7.4 GSAx, for 82nd overall among goalies in the league while Lehtonen finished with a 10.8, ranking 12th among goalies, most of which was acquired after Niemi was benched. After the 16-17 season, Dallas Head Coach, Lindy Ruff was fired, Ken Hitchcock took over for 2017-18, Bishop also became the starter and Kari Lehtonen became the backup. Dallas would also finish 6th in the central again this season as well.
You’re 1000% right, I definitely knew that too cause staal was a leader in points so it’d be a forward not a defenseman 😂, I can’t believe I said Marc Staal, thank you for the correction.
I guess if you want tips, check out what The Hockey Guy does. Shannon's fast become pro calibre and if you learn from his successes and find your own way of implementing them, you should do really well as a hockey commentator on RU-vid.
Thank you! It’s my jersey from when I used to play for the university a couple of years back. They have a pretty solid club CHF D2 (might be D1 now) team.
I know which game you’re talking about! Yep he let in 2 pretty bad goals in 11 shots but still nothing obscenely terrible. Unfortunately that was his only game in the NHL and he never got a chance to redeem himself. Thank you for watching!
So basically he saved first shot but because of own goal he was named as fail even tho... 2 on 1 attack, bad defending and he got blamed.. Again Dumba having way too much space and scoring. He might have been bad, but getting blamed for that defending is just wrong. Unfortunately stats are what is shown in North America, instead of what actually happened
Yes, however that’s not the full story, as Niemi’s GSAx, the best statistic to rank goalies independent of their defense, was 82nd in the league, while Dallas’s other goalie, Kari Lehtonen, was ranked 12th. Dallas’s defense was bad of course but that doesn’t make Niemi’s goaltending decent. Thanks for watching the video!
He didn’t do anything haha, I was just referencing the Covid-19 pandemic that shut sports down all across the world. Niemi made the voluntary decision to retire after the season abruptly ended
@@pjbth definitely one of the best ways to describe it, as a goalie myself, sometimes you just get too much in your own head and I feel that’s probably what happened to Niemi during his time in Dallas and afterwards
