I now understand you long time Star Wars fans. The feeling of having to drop your expectations to hell for something you once loved for years really really sucks..

Man this episode really just made me appreciate how good Helm's Deep is.

The Lyanna moment was dumb too, why would the mindless zombie giant treat her differently? Instead of just crushing her like everyone else and moving on he has to lift her just high enough and close enough to conveniently kill him. Ok.

And then you have people using the lame excuse that “ItS cAlLEd gAmE oF ThROnes nOt gAme Of ThE nIgHT KiNg”. Yes it’s called Game of Thrones, emphasizing the unimportance of the squabble over the Iron Throne and the politics of westeros. Because the luring threat beyond the wall was greater than the kings and queens of the seven kingdoms. This is the narrative they have been setting from day 1 and people wonder why we’re upset, it’s depressing.

The best part? They had no idea melisandre was coming. She just showed up. So. The plan was to charge light cavalry (they aren't shock heavy cav) into an undead horde they couldn't see in the dark.......... Wat?! Jon has fought them before and on mass. He got out in time but he still fought them. He knows their numbers. He knows how they attack a settlement. Dont get me started on putting troops OUTSIDE Winterfell. Or setting up CATAPULTS on the frontline.

Even the Library scene is only awesome, when you make yourself forget that one of the biggest battles ever is going on outside! Seriously: How can it be so quite that you can hear blood dropping on the floor, when tens of thousands people and whites fight outside? Damn if a dog is barking across the street and I have all my windows closed, I can still hear it in my living room. And I bet they don't have 3 layers of glass in their windows in Westeros.

I agree, it feels like there were several payoffs without the proper setup to make them feel meaningful. Had the Dothraki been given a reason to ride off into the night then their sacrifice would've felt meaningful instead of pointless.

The writers obviously never played Total War, otherwise the "tactics" would have made a bit of sense.

Surprised you didn't compare this to Last Jedi. They stole Rey's saber drop move (which they stole from The Hunted). And Night King pretty much got Snoked.

People who "heard" Jon screaming "Go!" are so in denial that's funny.

That scene with Lyanna Mormont was terrible. She had already overstayed her welcome in the show to the point of her telling grown adults (tacticians, soldiers, veterans) what they should do was destroying my ability to suspend my disbelief. But with this episode, I had thought, "Finally, they're hitting her with some of the Game of Thrones blunt realism that has been served to so many other characters." She wants to join the battle and wear armor and carry a sword to play soldier despite being a small twelve year-old girl? Fine, then she's going to get swatted like she's gnat. But no, we have to give her an "epic moment" so people can all cheer at it while watching the show in a hipster bar. Why an undead giant would even bother stop swinging indiscriminately at people and pick up a little girl so that he could hold her right up to his face is beyond me.

Remember when the cavalry charged head on in Lord of the Rings? Yeah, me neither.

Never seen a single episode of GOT but I still enjoy watching people ranting about the letdown. 'TLJ' Snoke method is seeping into other stories. What this boils down to is intentional subversion of unconscious stupidity and creative laziness. I feel bad for the fans invested in this show for 8 years but they now share my pain about new Star Wars.

2:00 - I don't even know how, logistically, the Dothraki all got wiped out so quickly. Charging in was stupid enough, but even if they do that, they should have been able to hold off the undead on their own for a decent amount of time. The Dothraki are good fighters, after all.

When the episode ended i actually thought to myself "How crazy would it have been if Bran were controlling the Others the entire time?" The Night King kneels to Bran, the Bran's eyes turn the familiar shade of light blue, then they turn white as he Wargs to the undead Viseryn who is still standing in front of Jon, then it lets loose an enormous blue fireball and Jon disintegrates instantly, there is nothing left to bury. I feel like something like that would have been much more in line with GRRM's style of writing

Hasnt the NK been south of the wall for maybe 3 days? A week at most and he already failed. What a loser. Wish I knew he was going to be treated as a pointless side villain.

10/10 Robot Head delivers every time unlike the writers of most shows these days

Arya's walking dead scene was neat, but it didn't make sense. Why'd the Wites suddenly stop rampaging through the castle? Why was Arya hiding from them when she could have stealth killed each one with her *Valerian Steel* dagger? You know, the one the episode kept forgetting she had!

To be honest I have lost interest , the writing on nearly all movies and shows has just bombed , Law and order is comical it's so bad , starwars wtf happened , walking dead , GOT, and on and on ,

The show has spent ten years building up the threat of the White Walkers (they literally started the show with the White Walkers) for it all to be resolved in a single night! So The Long Night lasted a few hours and was resolved by a single dagger strike and the entire threat of the White Walkers was erased! So the Azor Ahai Prophecy was absolutely pointless, Jon Snow's resurrection was pointless, the Red Priests Prophecies were pointless, Stannis Baratheon's storyline was irrelevant, Rhaegar Targaryen's actions to produce the Prince who was Promised was irrelevant, making Jon Snow and Ned Starks entire story irrelevant, Melisandra and Beric Dondarion's work with The Lord of Light was irrelevant, Jon Snow and the Wildlings plot was irrelevant, The One Eyed Ravens storyline was irrelevant, and the entire ten years of fan investment was irrelevant! Benioff and Weiss are completely Talentless Hacks! Their joint crowning achievement prior to hoodwinking GRRM, was that one of them wrote X-Men Origins Wolverine! If this was all there was to their interpretation of the White Walkers storyline, then they should have excluded it from the show and focused solely on the Politics of Westeros.

The biggest mistake The knight King made...was not being the knight *queen.* P.s. I disagree with Arya being a good character. Once she took a swim (in sewage) with her guts ripped out....I was done. She's a Marry Sue

Helm's Deep is the still one of the best sequences ever put to film. This episode just confirms it. Also, why didn't Bran warg into a dragon and do something... anything?

I effing love this guy! 2 minutes in and the point he makes about the Dothraki is spot on and is exactly what I said the night I watched the episode. If they really wanted that visual so much then they should of had the Dothraki charge off against orders or something similar. Killing them off the way they did was undignified and served only to make our heroes look clueless and stupid. They should have been sat on the hill with Dany and Jon held in reserve for a flanking manoeuvre.

That music, and the AT-AT coming in and trampling down whatever, giving no f*cks... Your intro is really cool!

The last 4 seasons have been worse than fan fiction.

Idea, what if instead of this Deus Ex Arya end, they just lost the battle? Like maybe the living have a secret exit out of either the crypt or the keep so that few characters could flee south but the Night Kings manages to kill Bran and destroy Winterfell so that now the entire seven kingdoms are in jeopardy instead of just the North. Better or Worse ending for this episode?

Jon should have been roasted by the wight dragon, only to be unscathed because he's Azor Ahai , kill dragon, then go fight the Night King. Arya could help in some way, maybe throw the dagger to Jon, so they still have the dagger that was gonna kill Bran, kill the Night King.

If I had been in charge of writing season 8, episode 3, the Night King and Viserion would be suspiciously absent. At great cost, the heroes win the battle, but they begin to realize that it was too easy. Brann then realizes that they've been played: the Night King smelled a trap and went around Winterfell; leaving only a decoy force to attack the castle so he could head south unimpeded. The scene would then cut to Cersei in King's Landing. Gradually yet suddenly, clouds begin blocking out the sunlight, a cold breeze sets in, and a single snowflake passes in front of the face of Cersei, who immediately turns from smug to terrified. Winter has arrived in Westeros, and the Long Night has only begun. (To clarify, only the artificial winter has arrived. The Night King is still a few days away from King's Landing).

I actually imagined the Night King just having his casual staring contest with Bran and Bran won. An alternative would be him asking if Bran wanted to come for tea afterwards in a Darth Vader voice.

Watch the extended battle in "The desolation of Smaug". Even if you skipped the trilogy, the extended battle makes the movie make more sense. More gore, and longer fights between Elves and Dwarves. I won't spoil what they left out of Dwarven armies, but it would have kicked some zombie ass.

They borrowed from another "good" director/writer like them, Rian "blOb" Johnson... The blow to the Night King, by changing hands, the stupid battle strategies that doesn't make sense and the killing of the big bad mysterious villain mid term. They literally put a "Your Snoke theory sucks!" on us. There are people out there that say this was a well crafted, well writen ending and that it was all there from the beginning, it was foretold that this was the way the things will end. These people will have a SHOCK, when the ending of the books arrive and will not be anything like THIS.

Direwolves were a lot more important in the books. Most of the Stark children (and Jon) had warged into their Direwolves. Warging actually is a big part of Aryas story.

Bran uses warg power to inhabit undead vessels and turns the ones in close proximity against the NK, maybe even the lesser white walkers. Helps us realise why Bran is being hunted by the NK and sheds light that perhaps the NK was originally a warg or greenseer which is why he became more than the children of the forest planned. Have a cool battle with Bran vs NK, then midway a well skilled zombie has the NK on the backfoot and the face pulls off to show Arya, literally the face of death. Together they defeat the NK. Honestly would have preferred Jon, but if they were going this route they should have done more than a cheesy "Crouching Tiger Hidden Arya" moment.
