Which station would you recommend? Or does it change
@SepulcherGeist
@SepulcherGeist 5 лет назад
@@arturius9715 It changes, and quite frequently. I'd anticipate it to change day to day which stations are buying the opals for the amount you want. In my sequel to this tutorial I go into more detail: but what I do is I just go to icy rings with void opal hot spots, mine, then use EDDB to find a station that buys them for 1.6 mil each. If no stations are nearby that do, I go to the galaxy map, find a nearby system (for me it's usually Sol or Ehecatl) and search off of THOSE system on EDDB (as if that's where I am). I never have had to look harder than that. I search off another system, find 1.6 mil buying station, and it's still only a few jumps away! In short, you don't HAVE to mine near a station that's buying, you can be super flexible and don't really have to worry about anything.

FYI everyone, each bin in your refinery is the equivalent of a ton, so after your cargo hold is full, continue to fill up your refinery until it is full. When you sell what is in your cargo, your refinery will fill your cargo hold with what was in the bins. For this reason, the size 3A refinery is the best.

I enjoyed your tutorial and I think it's actually fairly useful and simple making it helpful to new core miners. That being said I want to let people know that the fissure description you gave was slightly off. When targeting fissures the strengths vary from low to high. However this low to high system is referencing the resistance a fissure has to explosives and not referencing what type of seismic charge you should use. Using a HIGH seismic charge on a LOW fissure is actually very helpful because it will have low resistance to explosives making it easier to achieve large results with less charges being deployed. In short I personally like to target a LOW fissure with a HIGH charge at first then maybe hit another low fissure with a medium set charge. Typically using this method you will only need 2 to 3 charges in order to reach the optimal yield range which will save you ammunition and prolong your mining experience. 07
@SeerreuS
@SeerreuS 5 лет назад
Absolutely correct and not only that but if you shoot two low strength fissures with a high strength charge, and then come across a high strength fissure and try to put a high strength charge in it you'll go over your optimal yield. Two low strength Fishers equals high strength charges plus one high strength Fisher with a low strength charge in it is what I always look for.
@dracowulfe

I got my first void opals from your tutorial -- thanks! I scanned in a LowRes and found a bright asteroid. Sent a prospector and targeted the fissures even though no core was detected (I wanted the practice.) They were hard to target since the asteroid was spinning, and the first det was too weak because I didn't get enough on it and time ran out. After that det, there was one fissure left that needed a high yield det and I managed to land one on it. I cracked it open on that second try. Well, I only got 4 void opals out of it and my hands were shaking the whole time because I was sure some random NPC FDL would show up and blast me. I bugged out as soon as the last one was in the hold. Made a beeline for my home base and then looked up a sell location. It's kind of a shame. Once I cracked that one open, a void opal hotspot showed up for that area, but I wasn't going to push my beginner's luck. Only 4 void opals (6.6MCr), but I was able to upgrade to a 5A frame shift drive.
@SepulcherGeist
@SepulcherGeist 5 лет назад
6.6 Mil is great early on. Don't worry too much about pirates if you're in solo, though. They only really bother you once you drop into a zone. They scan you once and move on. If you've been mining for awhile, it's astronomically unlikely more will spawn and find you. If you're playing in Open, however, that's a different story. Players hunting miners may as well drop into void opal hot spots and search for victims. As for targeting fissures, it takes practice. I suggest putting night vision on and getting up close and personal with those fissures. You see them easier with night vision. And just keep loading them up until you reach optimum yield range. Then back up and let it blow. You should get 15-17 void opals a rock. In my ship, I have 128 cargo space. I load up on 70 limpets, and I'm usually leaving the void opal hot spot with a cargo of 100-120 void opals for a 200+ mil payout. I've gotten so good at it, I literally watch episodes of Mystery Science Theater while mindlessly mining. That's how little threat pirates are (again, if you're in solo). Drop in, let the ships that spawn in with you scan you and see you only have limpets, let them say "darn," and fly off, and you're safe from pirates as long as you're in that instance (and don't log out). But as with all things, practice makes perfect, and makes confidence. You'll be grabbing up opals in no time and feel silly for worrying so much. However! Cherish your shaking hands and emotions. I miss those days.
@dracowulfe
@dracowulfe 5 лет назад
@@SepulcherGeist :Thanks for the advice about the pirates. Last weekend, I had time to try core mining again. As it happened, my "home" system was buying VO at premium prices and there is a VO hotspot at the gas giant. I was quickly able to turn around mining runs and make some quick bank to the tune of 50+ mil. Not a single pirate scan. I went out again yesterday and still didn't see any pirates. The buy price dropped, though, so I had find the next closest system (3 jumps away, so not bad). I've gone from 36 mil to 192 mil in about 4 mining trips. I only have 64t cargo space in my AspX though - with limpets loaded out, that's only enough space for 2 asteroids. Now that I have some credits to play with, I'm trying to decide on a ship for mining larger hauls.
@dracowulfe
@dracowulfe 5 лет назад
@CMDR LAZY :Thanks for the tip! Funny thing happened yesterday. Didn't see any pirates at all when I dropped into the hotspot. Later, after making the 3 hop trip to sell my haul, I left there and was mapping a ringed waterworld on the trip back when I got interdicted. NPC wanted 1t of cargo. So, while I was fiddling with the panel to figure out what 1t of cargo I was carrying, he bugged out. I had 1t low temp diamond that apparently had been queued up in my refinery until I'd sold them at the last system I was in. Well, I went back and sold that one. I'll remember to check next time I clear out my full cargo that the refineries haven't pushed something out. Now, to pick my next mining rig.

What I observed so far when looking for asteroids with cores - sometimes there are asteroids with no cores which also shine quite bright yellow color and it can at first confuse you and make you think it could be the core asteroid. The scanner puts a "square grid" on asteroids and from my experience the core asteroids shine so brightly that the grid is almost not visible (maybe a bit near the edges), the grid on non-core asteroids is quite easily noticeable in comparison. Another tip to recognize the core asteroids (at least I would say it works) is that "normal" asteroids lose their brightness with distance but core asteroids tend to be significantly brighter even at long ranges. So if you hit the scanner and somewhere in the distance at the edge of the scanner range you can see some asteroids highlighted in that cold-orange color and among them is one shining in yellow, it is usually the one to go for. Also, when I started mining, I wasted lots of prospector limpets on checking the bright asteroids which seemed as bright as the ones with cores only to find out they had no cores. If an asteroid has no core, you are close to it (around 200 meters) and hit the scanner again, it will shine very little or not at all, asteroids with cores shine pretty brightly even at these close ranges - at close range they will also show a very bright red lines, which are usually not seen from far away, as there the yellow color is vastly dominant. The core asteroids have a specific shape, the shapes differ for each ring type (icy, metalic, rocky) but some people can tell which asteroids have core simply by the shape. I can't really recognize the core asteroids by 100% but there shapes of asteroids that I recognize so I know that those for 100% don't have cores - this can save quite a lot of time too.

Just went hunting for cores last night after watching your tutorial. I'm a newbie with less than 100h, but I must say your tutorial made it easy. The real trouble was finding an Ice Ring with V.O hotspots (found plenty of low temp diamonds at first...) and finding a good ship I could outfit properly for 60M - went for a Python! As soon as I found the V.O hotspot, finding cores was an easy task. First one in less than 10mn but I messed the detonation. The others followed quickly though and were quite successful. My first V.O run ended up in a payout of 76M. Definitely the most rewarding job out there, and with less difficulties than expected! I have to thank you for that. Your tutorial didn't provide extra information compared to other, but it did explain better the task at hand. You actually made it an easy and achievable goal to become awfully rich in just a couple of runs.

Exactly what this guy said: Low Fissure means low density rock, a full charged seismic missile will do a lot of damage to crack it. High Fissure means high density, that means if you fired 2 fully charged seismic missile in low fissure and lets say you have only High fissures, dont fire smal charge in it, it wont even dent it, high fissure needs more charge levels than low or average. Also, you can select the fissures from your right panel from contacts list, no need to eye ball it.
@Snelo85
@Snelo85 5 лет назад
The comment is horseshit The high medium low density and charge is to achieve maximum yeild The goal isn't to split the rock as quick as possible Its to crack it correctly to produce the highest amount of fragments
@blackranger900
@blackranger900 5 лет назад
Snelo85 the yield isn't determined by the size of the charge, it's determined by being in the blue zone. Anyway you get into the blue is fine.
@ChefBoyareB
@ChefBoyareB 4 года назад
Easiest seismic charge rate is full charge (3) on a low strength. If you get 3 blocks tall on your sensor, do another full charge on another low strength. That will give you optimal range. If you get 4 or more solid blocks, switch to an average strength fissure and a 2 bar seismic charge. Also, at 2km range the explosion wave doesn't effect you. Freezing down to 0% will cause systems to malfunction.

I think the high low medium is basically like a resistance. If you have a low resist you do more damage overall as the bomb can penetrate more. So doing high on a low does the most damage. And doing low on a high is the least change to the bar. So, there are basically 9 resistances. I don't know how many of them overlap or in which way.

the 3 slot where you have the vehicle hanger... I'd put a fuel scoop. I mean, unless you're swapping ships to carry the mined results to sell, you'll be jumping your mining ship to sell things and then jump back, and you don't want to be docking every now and then en-route just to refuel, a 3A fuel scoop will help you get between mining site and sale site.

OK, I already left a comment to someone else's comment, but after watching this "no-nonsense" tutorial again, I feel the need to add a few more things: 1. A-rated thrusters and shields: unnecessary. Vehicle hangar: There's no such thing as "planetary mining." What you're saying is that you built a multi-purpose ship, not a dedicated mining ship; which already makes me wonder why I should trust you on pure mining issues. 2. "Look for yellow asteroids on pulse." This is wrong; the color tells you very little. It's opaqueness you're looking for. To quote from the Wiki: "Dull, translucent coloration indicates only surface deposits are present, while bright, opaque coloration indicates the presence of a core deposit. The colors red, orange, and yellow indicate the areas on an asteroid where deposits are located, and do not necessarily correspond to deposit density." 3. Matching charge yield with fissure density is just plain wrong. It's bad and inefficient. As has been pointed out in other comments, you always start with a high-yield charge in a low-density fissure. In summary, this is one of the less helpful guides to core mining I've seen.

My recommendation is shooting as strong as you can at low strength fissures, because if you land 2 high strength charges on 2 low strength fissures, you will already be at optimum range. Basically in my experience keep firing full charge until you are almost at optimum range, then do medium/low charge based on what you think is right. Good luck cmdrs o7

I actual did my first core mining last night and I had a icy ring with no hot spots but I got lucky and found 2 asteroids one with low temperature diamonds and void opals and I got 13 of each and the diamonds netted me the most profit and I found both mentioned asteroids within 20 minutes, I will defiantly will mine more again tonight.

Have you ever never noticed cars on the road until you purchased the same kind and started driving it? Then you start to see them everywhere.... It's likely the same for this. Once you know what to look for, that connection is made and once it is made, they appear easier because you recognize them quicker.

Might want to do some fact checking before doing a No-BS video. ( or at least change the title). High charges in low fishers yield better outcome, and likewise Low charges yield better in high fishers. - I give you an A for effort, but unfortunately I would have to give you a "C" on information quality.
@SepulcherGeist
@SepulcherGeist 5 лет назад
I do discuss this, and at greater length in my follow up video discussing advanced techniques. But overall I do not recommend that charge strategy. "Better outcome," would be incorrect. "More extreme outcome" would be the term I'd use, which may be better or worse depending.

I've only just come back to the game and i've been doing the one high yield into a low strength fissure then topping up in other fissures technique. I'm not sure it's the best. Yes i think you end up using less charges but even when I have it just in the blue I get over optimum yield result which means i'm blowing up the void opals that i want. I'm going to give the match yield to fissure technique a try and see what happens.

I would say that whichever method you use for setting your charges is completely up to personal preference. I've done it both ways and I've found that there is no particular difference between either, other than one using slightly fewer charges than the other. That fact would only really be relevant if you're flying something with a huge cargo rack and trying to fill it or you're really bad at aiming seismic charges. In my experience, I have never completely emptied even one launcher in a single mining trip.

That is my normal mining location also. Have you ever filled up 640 at hermitage. Not sure if I need a better place. It has 4 locations though and I haven't tried them all in one go. I use a cutter with 640 tons. It's enough to get 1 billion per run. It can do 650t because of the extra 10t from the refinery

this was a really great guide man thanks! i used it to quickly collect 16m credits worth of some king of mineral, i then got too close to the star on my way to sell them, dopped out of SC and panicked. this resulted in me losing not only my cargo but my ship. this was my first ever big payday and i almost cried no joke. just stared at my screen shouting "NO!". absolutely devastating

@masamune8697 5 лет назад
You know dropping out of sc next to a star only inflicts like 1 or 2 percent damage right? also throttling and charging fsd only increases your heat, I wouldn’t recommend moving until charging your fsd to get away from the star.
@facepuncher101
@facepuncher101 5 лет назад
@@masamune8697 it wasn't a normal star, was a neutron star. my heat was over 200 very quickly and eventually got way over 300, plus i was going no shield for cargo space. like i said i really panicked as i'd never had anywhere near that many credits. with all the alarms and my ship sparking i just froze up. had multiple chances to escape but just blew it. i'll know better for next time though and i've made a lot more credits since then

I built myself an Asp opal mining barge and hit up the nearest ice ring system. Not kidding, in 1 hour I mined 120m of void opals. I went from starter character in a sidewinder, to hauler for a few hrs, to anaconda in about 5 hrs total. Now, I did get ganked in the anaconda almost as soon as I'd undocked.. lol

I'm on xbox one as well. How do you set sensors, limpets, etc. to specifically look for void opals?
@SepulcherGeist
@SepulcherGeist 5 лет назад
Limpets launched via your collector limpet computer automatically gather what is near you (even other discarded limpets!) I think I showed in this video (or it's sequel), how to turn off and on objects for limpet-targeting. You can't set your limpets to ONLY seek something (unless that's changed now), but you can add other things to its IGNORE list (such as limpets you may discard for more room in your cargo bay). To do that, go to your contacts panel on your left-hand-side-computer. Go down the list to things that are nearby, select them, and add them to IGNORE. They should then appear "grayed out" or faded on your contacts screen, and limpets will no longer target them. You can't do this ahead of time: things have to be near by already for them to appear on your contacts list in order for you to add them to ignore. Also, this isn't something you should worry about so much... when you're breaking apart a void opal asteroid, all that will come from it is void opals, period. Nothing else to worry about (again, unless you've discarded something nearby). You CANNOT set sensors to detect only void opals, or set sensors like that at all (unless there is a new update I'm unaware of). You have to goo searching for the asteroids with them void opals the way I show in this video, and in it's sequel video: ADVANCED Void Opal mining.

If you are a pirate and you want to sneak up on someone in a cold running ship it is even more effective if the individual is icing up inside of the broken core. It affects their sensors and makes it harder to detect the pirate. They won't know anything until they hear hatch breaker Limpet incoming LOL I actually like to record people while they're Mining and doing their thing. I will usually stalk them for about 45 minutes and then all of a sudden here comes the hatch breaker limpet. Also if your pirate ship has a small refinery you can pick up some of the things that they are mining and save yourself a step.

How is a type 7? I just fully upgraded one...but now im thinking to focus mining...recommendations?
@SepulcherGeist
@SepulcherGeist 5 лет назад
Honestly you can mine in almost anything. Type 7 has the space and internals required for void opal mining, and then some, so there is nothing wrong with using it. But are you skilled at flying a T7? I flew a T6 and Asp for a long time in my early ED career and when I switched to a T7 I had some serious growing pains when it came to getting it through that docking slot. Now it's second nature, but my point is: don't make the first time you're docking the thing be when you're carrying 200 million worth of opals on board, okay? The biggest issues you'll have with the T7 are maneuverability and security. I'd play in Solo, and follow my safety tips when first dropping into the rings (let the pirates scan you, see you have nothing, and move on). You said you're fully upgraded so you should be able to get away if attacked, but regardless, a pirate's favorite target is still a T7. The other issue, maneuverability, is when you're trying to blast open the asteroids and when you're breaking off chunks with abrasion blasters. Truly, anything in the game can do these tasks in terms of maneuverability, but it'll just be a little more challenging in a T7. If you run out of charge-planting time, your blasts will go off prematurely and fail to break apart the asteroid. If I were in a T7 planting charges, I'd make sure I had fully upgraded thrusters and I'd make sure I'd fly AGAINST the spin of the asteroid, so it's turning toward you as you're arming the fissures. If you're in a position where you're chasing the spin of the asteroid, you're screwed. I also show and explain this in my sequel tutorial: the ADVANCED mining tutorial. Regarding the abrasion blasters: once you've blasted the asteroid apart, you need to shoot off the extra opal chunks stuck to the inside of the asteroid's pieces. In a T7, I would NOT fly directly in the middle of the debris. Fly around the OUTSIDE, shoot inside with your abrasion blasters and let your limpets collect from a distance. Follow those steps and the T7 should be just fine.

when getting lucky you can still try to hit low strength fissures with full charged seismic charges you can do one Asteroid with 2 charges .... happend a lot to me in the last few months ... your way to do it is to do it safe .... respectful trying not to mess it up but rather slow if you cracked your first asteroid .... i got wrecked some time because more than one NPC spawned in .... one opend fire the other sent Hatchbreakers at me .... unlucky situation .... but still good Guide :D

Hey man. Can you tell me the specs of your PC?
@orikalin
@orikalin 3 года назад
Very helpful guide but there is three things wrong/missing here. 1. When placing seismic charges, you CAN in fact use higher yield than the crack is rated for. Shooting a high yield charge into a low grade crack will result in a huge increase to the bar in the top right, as such you may only want to do this on the first shot. Shooting a low yield into an average will net you a very small amount of progress (less than shooting a low yield into a low) and shooting a low into a high yield will get you very very small amount of progress. This is good to do when you are in the blue, but the checkmark is not present/not optimal yield yet. 2. You showed it briefly, but did not say anything about it. If you hold down the pulse wave scanner, or mash it to scan as fast as possible, it does something strange, in that it shows alternate information for a short amount of time. You can see this at 8:24 in the video. Deep core asteroids will have LARGE overlapping patches of black (not just black lines/grid but fully black patches like in the video). This WILL NOT APPEAR if you are not pulsing the scanner as fast as possible, but they are a surefire way of confirming a deep core asteroid. 3. you failed to mention that certain asteroid shapes will NEVER be deep cores. For example the very first asteroid you approached and pulse scanned in the video is one such. and it has a very distanct shape. Very jagged, slightly elongated. That will never ever contain a core. there are others, but some are less distinct and hard to tell apart.
