13:05 this easily one of the most underrated moments of the series. Grandad is always quick to bring out the belt but when he can, he lays some good truth for his grandsons. Shows he really does care for them. Also, It’s always interesting to see a vulnerable side of Huey.

The BET commentary is two fold. One hand, it did conform to the mess and reality Tv driven era similar to MTV during that 2000s period but it would be disingenuous to act like it didn’t do a lot for black representation in art, music and overall media & entertainment. BET from the 90s - 00s was a go to channel for alot of people as it was still in some cases the only representation you had with genuine black stories, music & experiences

Often times when people bring up the Boondocks the usual follow up is the show couldnt come out today because it would get "canceled". And by canceled people mean extremely criticized, but people forget that shows like south park, family, guy, and the simpsons got extremely criticized by the average person and the average amount of people, all the while Boondocks was on air. But the boondocks really only saw Extreme pushback, not from the average person, but from big multimillion dollar names that it parodied, which were primarily companies. These were the only times that the Boondocks were ever really "canceled".

You are right. Also, cancel culture does not exist anyway. At the very least, it only applies if the one being “cancelled” apologizes for it. People who don’t give a crap rarely if ever get affected; unless, the government or some organization “cancels” them. However, at that point, it is just what we call convicting someone of a crime they committed. In the context of the boondocks, the “crime” they committed was creating satire about the very companies that stopped any potential continuation of the show. I guess the boondocks hurt the fee-fees of those corporates more than shows like South Park do. I wonder why… it is almost as if the boondocks was too real and radical with its commentary for people in control to handle (if you ask me, it is ironically comparable with what the U.S. does with every other intelligence vaguely socialist movement/work of art).

If you remember the Bob Ross episode Riley was Here from season 1, Huey did an experiment where he watched nothing but BET for like a week and it nearly killed him; fortunately the channel was changed to a nature documentary and he immediately snapped out of it.

I watched this back in college with my roomates and friends, we used to get together and have watch parties for Boondocks and Dave Chapelle. We knew how bad BET was because we grew up when BET was a network for uplifting and giving black people information they normally wouldnt get from other networks which were Eurocentric and was only catered to a white audience. Back then they had programs like Teen Summit which dealt with teen pregnancy, drug abuse and education and other things black teen faced. They would also have guest appearances from celebs like TLC. They also had the BET nightly news. They also had a caribbean show geared to showing African Americans the culture and music of the Caribbean. This was where black people first saw reggae-tone music videos and music videos from Jamaica. I miss that show as a Jamaican American. After BET sold out to the network corporations that controlled all of network TV, they cut all the education programs, kids programs, BET news etc. They introduced Rap city, 106 and park, black version of TRL, ghetto reality shows, and BET after dark, showing uncut explicity music videos

@@lavenderllamamusic yes reggatone started in the 90s by Panamanian Jamaicans. Called reggae in Español. They would air reggaetone music videos on BET. I think the show was called Caribbean rhythm. The host was the former Ms. Jamaica

Although I’m a Latino myself, I fully appreciate the commitment and dedication Aaron McGruder has put in this show to demonstrate the African American community in the US during the early 2000s and 2010s. As a Gen Z kid, it speaks a lot of truths that I never knew in that time until I heard about this series some time ago. Respect.

Its true that one person taking individual action in order to mitigate climate change wont have any real effect, and that the pressure should be applied to those with power over key positions of infrastructure. But its also true that climate change cannot be solved without individual responsibility and enough people taking on the day-to-day work of reducing their carbon footprint.

I feel like it’s that hunter x hunter thing. Where he said humans have the capacity for such evil and callous acts if it’s easy and benefits them vs others but equally as good and humane. I remember when this aired. I don't remember how, but we knew BET hated this episode and I definitely stopped watching BET around this time. Y'all have got to get over Bernie Sanders lol. He's a career congressman (30+ years in Congress) that has literally never authored a bill that was turned into law. He talks a decent game, but he gets nothing done.
