Shoe of the year for me. More cushioned than Speedgoat and Ultraglide. Faster downhill than Ultraglide and Fuji lite. Better and faster on asphalt and gravel than any other trail shoe. My next ultra race shoe. Got it very cheap.

Hi I'm looking for a shoe to run my local park run in, the course has mud, gravel, and tarmac. Would this be a good speedy option for running quick 5ks around varied terrain?

Hey Seth, one aspect of shoes you don’t cover is the rocker profile. This shoe seems to be a pretty extreme example of rocker in the front and back. It would be interesting if you discuss how the rocker shapes affect your stride.

QOD: My favorite summer/year round recipe is my coconut jasmine rice with BBQ baby back ribs… the great flavor of the rice with the sweet coconut pairs well with the smokey mesquite ribs… it’s a pallet 🎉! For the rice…. Take a small bag of sweetened coconut, soak it in water. You can use coconut water if you prefer. You need a ratio of 2:1 liquid to rice. Put your rice( I usually do 2cups rice 4cups water) in a 13x9 baking dish. Lightly drizzle with evoo. Salt and pepper. Stir rice to lightly coat. Add coconut water and some flakes. More or less flakes to your preference. Stir and cover with aluminum foil. I bake it about 45 minutes at 350° or until moisture is absorbed. Fluff with fork and let rest a few before serving. I also usually dice some onion and red peppers to add both color and flavor. Definitely go with the onion but you want about a 1/4” dice. Ribs: sorry but that’s proprietary information. :) enjoy! And oh yeah… I’ll call it now … fifth! 😂

QOD: my go-to summer dinner is a giant salad with salmon or chicken on top. I get carbohydrates from a side sweet potato or else adding fruit to the salad. It’s easy, cool, and feels really nourishing. Load the salad with as many veggies as possible, fruits if you want, and cook the salmon/chicken in EVOO, sea salt, pepper, and garlic…so good. My husband and toddler enjoy this meal as well. 😊

I could see this being a really good casual hiking on not so technical terrain besides for running. Also, as long as the weight of a shoe is balanced, it doesn’t bother me if heavier. But I play a lot of bball also which there are no light shoes, so guess I’m just use to heavier shoes.

Thanks for the review! Bought and tired this shoe a few times now. I don't like the height and how squishy it is under foot. Running in a straight line no real issues, but changing direction, be careful! The high-heal height makes you prone to ankle rolling more. Good lock down and fits true-to-size for me. Comfy/breathable upper. Might turn into hiking shoe.

I think weight is far less important in trail shoes for the most part. I'll gladly add a few ounces for some good grip and construction.

I agree with you! Grip, construction, cushining. Of course not 100g more but 10-20g is nothing if you can gain those things, especially for ultra distances. I think Seth is still evaluating trail shoes based on road shoe metrics.

On the durometer Seth. There are so many factors which go into how soft the shoes feels that durometer score simply isn't that useful (although it is very interesting). For example, the same material with the same durometer can feel completly different just due to the amount or shape of it. There are also different hardness and thickness of outsoles and footbeds which all make a difference.

Not a real in-depth cook myself, I tend to grow the crops. Now if you want some potatoes, the potatoes are looking great to be harvested in a couple of weeks 🙂.

Whenever you show close ups of the out sole, it alway looks like it’s reversed!? Every time. I watch it again and again and I can’t see it the correct way. That’s to says lugs look like they go in and de-coupled grooves look like lumps . Is it just me ? Does anyone else see this? I’m sure it’s an optical effect but why can’t I see it the correct way round??

Do you guys think that some shoes are getting away with a softer durometer due to having a plate to add some rigidity? That seems to be the secret sauce to these racing shoes.

Yes. There was some early comments from Nike that sounded like the midsole was essentially 'too soft' and the carbon 'too hard' and the positive result was a little serendipitous!

Anyone else having issues with these shoes squeaking? I’ve ordered 3 pairs and they all squeak in the same spot. Inside of the foot near the middle of the shoe. The insole seems to be rubbing on the side of the tongue or something? It’s annoying.

Your outsole comments would indicate a solid 9/10 score for that area so I’m a little surprised by the 8/10 score. I believe you even mentioned “just about perfect” for the rubber on the bottom The North Face put out some pretty decent trail shoes from about 2006-2010. I loved their partnership with the BOA lacing system where you could fine tune by turning that dial on the back

Yeah mate. Some people really loved the Flight Vectiv, which I believe Seth thought was too heavy. It was pretty much the first trail shoe with a full carbon plate.
