You are so genuine and articulate. It's a refreshing take in comparison to other RU-vidrs who try to get into creepy, morbid, macabre RU-vid. With love, from a fucking seraphim.

I'm Mexican, and sometimes watching content similar to this makes me uncomfortable especially when people discuss cartel videos. I've seen what is done over there and it's horrible but it always rubs me the wrong way how it's discussed by those who aren't from there. You truly never know how people end up tortured in those videos, how people think it's easy to avoid a fate like that and say shit like "well they got involved so they got what was coming". I know cartels are genuinely horrible, and I know family members who've been threatened by them, but I just want to urge people to educate themselves on the situation so that they don't end up sounding ignorant and xenophobic. Thank you for the great video May 💓!!

I'm brazilian and I'm just like used to my country being shat on constantly for all sorts of reasons but "They decapitate referees all the there and that's just a normal thing" is so absurdly xenophobic I can't even believe it's not a joke so it's kinda funny. Anyways your videos have improved my mood so much every time you upload and the amount of thought you put into all of these is so amazing

Yeah it's so weird. So much brutal stuff happens in English speaking countries too, guess people are just scared of the unknown. For what it's worth I think Brazil is a beautiful place! Discovering Brazilian music online (mainly 60s/70s samba and Novos Baianos since I tend to like US and UK "dad rock" lol) really sparked my interest in other culture's music There is a whole world of creativity out there that will never break through in America just because it's not sung in English. Kind of inspiring to think of how much there is out there to discover

Also Brazilian, also never heard about it. I do hear about violence during soccer matches, but it's mostly a few idiots fighting outside with fans of the opposite team. The last one I heard where someone got seriously hurt was a shock to everybody. We have our issues as a country, but it's just like every other place and the idea that we are all violent primitive people is xenophobic garbage.

i stepped away from plagued moth's content for stupid reasons like the editing and forgetting to cut a lot of waiting and reading out. i'm really lucky that leaving that long ago saved me from being exposed to that content with zero warning. may's content is so so so much more healthy and happy to consume anyway. in another way, seeing a trans creator so open about her life is incredibly comforting as someone who usually only hears from trans creators about transition (not that that doesn't help as well). from a trans man, thank you for everything may. i also bought fluids on my kobo and can't wait to read it!

My thoughts on Plagued Moth have been changing a lot. I used to watch his videos to learn about these things so I wouldn’t have to watch them. However, I began to really hate when he would include the audio or some photos. My final straw was when he made a video about the Uvalde shooting and showed clips from inside the school. As a teacher, this is my worst nightmare, and it sucked that I was exposed to those clips without any warning or permission. I truly don’t understand why people brag about watching these videos. Im sure Plagued Moth is a great guy, but the whole “hurter of feelings” brand he is taking on now just rubs me the wrong way.

Lady, this bit I took out of your transcript and cleaned up is fucking art. All by itself. It is genuine and clear and caring and while it is about NSFL content you can take the second half of it and tell it to anyone who is down a fucking hole. It is beautiful. Thank you for it. "Shit like this can color your existence. you watch it and you think that the world is a scary horrible place filled with horrible violence and gore and murder and Mayhem You know what? You're not wrong. You're not wrong. Those things are true. It is objectively true that murder and torture and pedophilia and shit like this exist. They exist and people do it and it's wrong and bad and we hate it. But as I said earlier get on your bike. Go feel the breeze in your hair. Walk past a fucking grocery store when it's really hot and the door is open and the AC comes out and it hits you in the face just right and you're like 'wow Life is Beautiful' Go hang out with your fucking girlfriend, dude. Go hold hands with someone. Go for a walk in a park. Go wear an oversized hoodie and smoke a cigarette. Fucking go live your life because this kind of shit is NOT gonna live your life. This is not your life. Your life is a beautiful life that you were given to do with whatever you want and you've chosen to sit here with me and learn about this. And I'm not necessarily saying you shouldn't sit here with me but I'm pleading with you, begging you even, NOT...not to stop living because of this. This is not worth it."

I could listen to May talk about her favorite wacky animals that she happens to know about just as much as her talking about dark gruesome shit. Listening to May address it just makes me feel like I’m able to live a normal life with trauma and that it doesn’t get to control me, and that I can in fact control my life, once I recognize what the trauma is and how to move past it. 'Brazil scary because soccer riot' its wild to me that Americans never discuss European soccer riots or incidences of violence surrounding them- though that'd have to make them acknowledge a lot of the violence there is white Europeans being racist in response to nonwhite athletes either winning or loosing instead of blaming it on an inferior mind.

I feel so empowered now like, I feel like I will never accidentally click on any of those videos, I know what's in them so I wont ever be tempted by morbid curiosity, and if I ever did see them I now have a homemade heuristic to make sense of the experience in a way that allows me to acknowledge the horror and still continue to live my life afterwards Bravo, just bravo

I remember about these cases. It's more of a "The cartel" thing. Most things you'd call NSFL that happen in the crime dens of Rio's favelas are actually taken directly from torture practices ensued by police officers to criminals while in imprisonment. The institute of the western hemisphere (the current iteration of the school of the americas) is still active and brazil still has not officially withdrawn involvement in enlisting military officers into the school. In fact mass torture is quite the thing in brazilian prisons. Brazilian military police officers learn to torture prisoners from american officers, and those prisoners learn to torture their enemies from that. So while ppl do have the fame of getting aggressive because of soccer, it has a lot more context than just we being barbaric compared to caucasians, the people FAMOUSLY KNOWN FOR RESPECTING HUMAN DIGNITY THROUGHOUT HISTORY

I don't usually comment on these types of videos but I wanted to thank you for telling these stories in such a humanizing manner. I'm Venezuelan so I'm, sadly, very used to violence. I had to forcibly leave my country, because if I hadn't, that could've been me on one of those vids. People think it can't happen to you, but it can (And that's why people don't believe me when I tell them the exact reasons I left). That can be you, or someone you love. Even if you don't get exactly funkytowned, evil exists everywhere and it can reach you. Again, thank you so so so much for having such a genuine and respectful focus. Also, I love your music

I’m so glad that I found this channel like 2 years ago, because I was in a super dark place 5 years ago and wanted to see how many dark and fucky wucky things in the world I could find. It’s so nice to have someone who has seen all these videos and educates their audience in this way, because now, I have essentially zero interest in looking into any of this. So thank you, May! I hope that you know how much I value your work and videos. They literally saved my mental health and probably life. I spend more time with my family and like to go outside and talk to people. Again, thank you so very much May! 🥰🥰🥰💕💕💕

I think it's really nice that you bring to light that a lot of the human violence perpetrated in these vids are more than just "humans in this part of the world are violent and horrible" and that it often is aimed at a specific audience for whatever ulterior motives.

May, i really admire you and as a fellow survivor of some real bad stuff, i deeply appreciate the way you approach dark and fucked-up content with such intelligence, nuance, sensitivity, and thoughtfulness. your messages at the end of each video in this series (as well as the disturbing movie iceberg videos) are so important and i really hope they reach the people who need that reminder that if you spend all your time with your head in the toilet of the internet, of course life is gonna look like shit.

These last two videos have been absolutely incredible, the amount of thoughtfulness you've put in, the way that you're making me rethink all the reactionary shit we all see everyday, amazing job. The ending part, about enjoying our lives, it really resonated with me. It's so interesting to me that one of the most insightful videos in years, with messages that I think everyone should hear and internalize, is in a NSFL video. Legit though - watching these has helped a lot with my own personal anxiety. Hearing someone just say; yeah, this does happen, death does happen and it does suck, is so refreshing to hear. I feel like generally we are so gaslit into pretending like it's not real, it's never going to happen to us, and if it does, it just means we get to go to some unguaranteed afterlife - to just get down to the brass tacks of it and hear someone say; it happens and it DOES suck, helps so much. Sorry for the huge wall of text but man your videos just keep getting better and better through the years and I can't wait to see what you put out next!

You defending Brasil when your grandparents were being xenophobic made me feel very weirdly represented. Even my mother (who is Brasilian) literally falls for Fox xenophobia towards Brasilians, and even follows grifters from Brasil! It’s so frustrating, but I appreciate you speaking out on this. I’ve never known how to explain it in my own words.

Hi May. Watching you explain and correct the xenophobic content you encounter while making these videos has been a huge relief. South America is a big continent, and judging a whole region based on these very specific videos and without any context is obviously going to lead to extreme conclusions. Anyway, much love from Brazil.

Dang May. I’m so used to the macabre, edgy coverage of events and media like this that I didn’t realize what I was missing. Your realism is refreshing and cuts these shock videos down to what they really are, but in a way that makes it possible for me to recognize it for what it is, nod my head to the shared suffering and common ending to all our lives, and move on. It’s raining now, and I could listen and enjoy it. I’m home alone, but I’m not fearful of an imaginary cruel, mindless savage rabidly choosing my door to jimmy open. Lately I’ve been maintaining the belief that people have good reasons for the things they do. Your refreshing approach to some of humanity’s worst moments caught on camera is desperately needed in the face of edge lords and scroll-and-forget mentalities. Edit: One disagreement, I was happy about one murder. When Gary Plauche killed Jeffrey Doucet...that was badass.

As a Brazilian, this hoax of the decapitated referee is a new one to me, normally people talk we live with animals in the streets like is some kind of urbanized Jungle Book/Tarzan stuff, or a lot of mention of organ trafficking (seriously, the amount of US media from games to movies that has something in Brazil has a ridiculous amount of mentions or organ trafficking as a plot point, like is pretty normal for this to happen here).

Honestly any kind of gore involving animal attack survivors doesn’t bother me at all. Not just because it’s not some awful intentional thing, just getting really unlucky, but also because they usually come with before and after recovery photos. Something about seeing how someone can just get all their shit wrecked and a couple years later have a pretty normal face again and a family and a life is so… hopeful? It’s like a reassurance that bad things can happen to you and you can still keep on keeping on. They actually make me tear up sometimes thinking about how hard people worked to get this one person back to as normal as they could because they care.

I kinda get what you're trying to say, the ftg video kinda fucking traumatized somehow even tho I've never seen it before, something about the description of it really afected me and just the mention of even the song usually gets a physical response from me, the part where she's talking about the video and then went on depth on it made me freeze and cry, but the way nyx talks about this stuff is honestly the best way to handle nsfl media since other people usually just try to make reality seem as bad as possible while talking about it, and even tho there's bad shit out, having someone make me remember that not everything is like that and that death is normal lifted a huge weight off my back :)

This is excellent. Crime and gore content tends to be extremely reactionary and xenophobic, so having such a take on this stuff is a breath of fresh air. Being from Colombia, having lived through the worst of the violence there, and then having moved to the US in my 20s, I truly appreciate how much emphasis you put in how the school of the americas created the conditions that gave birth to the cruelty seen in this type of content. The peak of the violence in Colombia was not videotaped, but it was also meant to send a message of terror. Let's just say that chainsaws have a much different cultural significance inside the Colombian imaginary than they do everywhere else in the world, and that their symbolic meaning is one of _systematic_ unspeakable horrors. The stuff that comes out of Mexico is but an extension of the same rot, and the attitudes of most content creators towards these horrors only betrays that the white supremacist propaganda has been extremely successful. I hope more people watch your videos and at the very least recontextualize what they've been exposed to.

You give such introspective commentary in like every video. Also i disagree about this video being completely depressing, your words genuinely gave me hope. Gore is such a confusing topic for me personally because i genuinely enjoy the medical aspect of it, i love seeing how the human body works and reacts to shit, but i hate the pain and suffering, if that makes sense. Im so interested in hearing your opinions in the last video!!

the ending of this video was nearly enough to make me cry. i used to suffer from severe anxiety and depression, to the point where i couldn’t envision myself living long past high school. i’m 27 now and in a much, much better place, but i used to spend so much time being upset and angry about the horrible things in the world. now i’m old enough to understand that caring about others’ pain does not mean that i have to torture myself over it - my suffering does not alleviate anyone else’s suffering. there is so much value, so much meaning, in letting yourself love life. let yourself experience joy, so that you might spread it. we all know the world is capable of extreme violence - it is a radical act to focus on the love within it instead.
