What’s up with the weird obsession some k-pop stans have on female idols’ bodies? This video will explore this topic, focusing on the potential consequences of this fixation through the psychological lens of objectification theory and social comparison theory. This video will only explore the tip of the iceberg…
ALSO this video is not about content that body shames idols. I do not condone body shaming. If you feel the need to shame others for what they look like, please seek therapy!
As this is the first video I’ve uploaded in YEARS, my filming skills are definitely a bit rusty. I apologise for the poor lighting and my awkward-ness 🤧

Stay safe and take care :)

People only talk about it because they themselves are more obsessed

It’s very reminiscent of American entertainment in the 2000s. Everyone talked about everyone’s weight, you were told that being “bone thin” was in and if you had any body weight you were “fat/chubby” as well as constantly involved with their lives via paparazzi and gossip tabloids. KPOP is in that era right now. Fans just create SO much drama but have nerve to blame the companies. Also great video!!

Companies absolutely do require the extreme diets/skinnyness tho. You see this with idols who are already thin, but then by next comeback they’re even skinnier even if the fans had no issues or weren’t commenting on the weight before. Not to mention all the trainee horror stories surrounding food and weight. I also think it’s more of a company/entertainment problem across many countries and decades, because even though fans and the general public have been very receptive of different body types and shapes all these celebs morph into a skinny similar look due to the pressures of their industry and bosses, because they think skinny is best and the default. You see this with how runways still have majority 00 models, celeb reps for brands are all usually skinny, stories of actresses on red carpets talking about how since they were a certain size the amount of looks they could choose from were limited, who is popular in entertainment, the popularity of ozempic in Hollywood, etc

i see a ton of videos that are like “idols with the ___ body type!!!” like why do you care enough to make that video though? you don’t have to say anything about what they look like because it’s none of your business lmao. i will say i hate it a little less when people say like “they look scarily skinny lately, i hope they’re healthy and ok” because it’s usually more out of genuine concern, especially with the ongoing issue of extreme diets and overworking in the industry. i still don’t think anyone should be pointing it out, but it’s kind of not as bad imo

i always took the body type ones as being "hey if youre (body type) they are too, yall have something in common and you can look to them for fashion inspo" but idk might just be me. i agree w what you said though!

Is it just me? Or why (some) K-pop fans are obsessed with males idols abs? Like I literally saw some fans were so bummed out cuz Kai from TxT was apparently going to do a dance challenge with Taemin from Shinee for his Song (Guilty) and if you know the choreography you have to lift your shirt up to do it and some fans were soooooo disappointed when he wasn’t able to do it cuz of their busy schedule, like are you kidding me? You’re upset cuz you couldn’t see a stranger stomach? To me that feels weird and idk why it’s normalized but that’s just my opinion, Also sometimes I find it unnecessary when some fans focus on their idol body parts it’s quite creepy but again it’s just my opinion. Edit: before you come for me saying “Will some male idols are deliberately doing it for the fans” will we don’t know the exact intentions of these idols maybe it’s them maybe not, but I also brought up Kai’s example cuz from what I perceived watching some TxT content I don’t think he’s the type to do it, Even when I was watching Deja vu dance practice every time his hoodie lifts up it’s immediately edited out with a album cover which I think if that was the case for him then he’s probably not comfortable doing that and we should respect that, that’s from what I perceived though so idk.

When i was in the worst parts of my disordered eating patterns and aesthetic obsession, i was obsessed with videos of idols bodies - while i felt absolutely terrible for them, all i thought was "this is what im working for". Luckily when i gained confidence and love and understanding ofnmy bodily and biology, this stopped but i really feel bad for those who still love these videos - they are not well.

I feel like some western fans don't see idols as real people because the kpop industry is so different to the western pop industry that it seems like another world - escapism for some people. So, they feel like they can say anything about these people because they're not apart of that 'world'. That what they say won't reach them or that they can say something about their appearance in hopes that they would change their appearance, like they're ai dress up dolls or something. This can apply to how people view the Kardashian's.
