I'm honestly shocked as to how well this replicates the high level commercial real estate industry. Property values are a mystery, people's cash reserves are hidden, everything is a risk and a dingle wrong purchase could spell the end. Some tweaking to the auctioning and this could be a really intensive economics game.

@Zogger568 agreed. I was actually impressed at how it innovates the basic economics of things like monopoly. Just scrap the roll and move and replace it with worker placement, a random deck, or action card play, and this is a real modern contender. All for a celebrity tie in mass market game from the 80's?! This might actually be a contender for the best of that genre and even decade. (Pending an actual play. I just bud in it on ebay.) Maybe use coins instead of paper money....

Tip: if you want legit reviews of the game itself, make sure the date is before 2016. This game has been around since the 80s. Same on boardgame geek, the reviews on it only become reviews of Donald Trump himself by 2016.

Speaking as someone who doesn't like Donald Trump in the slightest, I agree. I respect the idea of "well I can't enjoy the game because I don't like who it's themed around", but it's insane a game designed in the 80s is being used as a modern day political talking point just because they didn't anticipate a celebrity would become president, and people review everything as if it came out last week regardless of how old it is. "I'm rating this high to own the libs!" "I'm rating this low to dismantle the MAGA agenda!" You are ALL wasting your time and aren't capable of enacting real change so you just rattle the bars of your cage to feel like you have control.

I was uninterested until the secret money came in. That's honestly a really neat idea and shows some genuine design chops behind the game. Honestly wouldn't even mind trying to fit that into monopoly, makes everything far more interesting as it can prevent a feeling of hopelessness or inevitability when you see someone with stacks on stacks.

I'm in a weird spot where my parents owned the game for some reason, and I learned about the game when I was 8 (though it was because we were getting rid of it, and none of us had played it), yet I hadn't learned about Trump the person, so I learned about the game before the person.

I had thought that it referred to a trump suit, such as in trick taking games, many of which involve bidding, the only thing I remembered from the brief explanation.

That's really not the most difficult achievement in board gaming history tbh, there have been so many games that can be pretty reasonably described as "Monopoly but better". Even No Rolls Barred's Monopoly But series, created for entertainment rather than for player fun, has what I'd consider multiple homebrewed entries into that list.

If you'd like to see another review that was not colored by who Trump is now, check out the Flip The Table podcast. They reviewed the game back in 2012, long before he was starting his run for any kind of office. They still called it bad, but it wasn't because of the theme, they legitimately didn't like it. It also didn't end up as their "worst game of all time" (I think Lost: The Game got that distinction by the end of the show's run). As it stands now, the hosts don't even like to talk about the episode of the show, but they're keeping it up for posterity.

I can't remember if it was in the last tournament, but I recently rewatched the rants by Massacre's Mansion about Monopoly Cheater's Edition, and I think it definitely deserves to be a part of it.

The Avalon Hill classic Outdoor Survival definitely needs to be in the next worst board game competition. Any game where players wander in the wilderness guided by random die rolls while they slowly die of hunger or thirst has got to be up there as the worst of all time

A game I've heard of not because of its gameplay, but because its map was recommended for use in wilderness encounters in the original dungeons and dragons pamphlet [when the TTRPG was still partially a Chainmail hack]. This recommendation generally resulted in a lot of D&D games in the 70s using the outdoor survival hex map as the map of the starting area. It's one of the most well-used [if not completely as intended, D&D had its own rules for exploration and survival even at this point] hexmaps in gaming.

I love how they didn't even bother to update the box art for the re-release. They just used 1989 Trump. That's actually surprising. For someone as image and brand conscious as Donald Trump you'd expect the branding to be consistent with what was on TV at the time on The Apprentice. It just seems weird not to take advantage of the one actually popular brand Trump has ever been involved with while that brand is hot and current

Correctly calling out cringe hate/love reviewing and then just playing the damn game is the best option. It's definitely interesting and I wonder if anyone can adapt the better aspects to other games.

I played this game in middle school with some of my friends. We played it because it was 2016 and we thought it was funny that it had become political. We never finished it but I remember it being fine.

I would love to see "Killer Bunnies: Quest for the Magical Carrot" in the worst board game running. That game was overly convoluted. The base game had cards whose rules were explained in the supplementary rule book, NOT on the card itself. And the whole game could be won by a single lucky draw.

Honestly this does sound like a genuinely enjoyable time, it’s a better and more creative Monopoly due to the elements of secrecy and the banking aspect of each property. Shame it’s gonna be near impossible to play it with anyone due to the theme, cause I guarantee no matter who you’re with simply owning this game is going to start a political discussion, and nobody wants to deal with that at Game Night.

The idea of this game existing is just hilarious to me, especially so considering what Trump was known for when this game out. Literally just "loud man with a bunch of money". Who would want a board game about that??? I bet this was a popular gag gift. Edit: Who would've thought this game was pretty good? I still think it was probably popular as a gag gift or just an excuse for friends to tell each other that they're fired. Honestly, would probably be a fun time back when this was originally released!
