Feels like a repressed memory because I'm realizing that my mom took more of her advice than none, which more than likely fueled my childhood trauma, creating those repressed memories. Big LOST fan here, so maybe I can shed some light on the Option 3 victory thing: LOST’s big tagline was “Live Together, Die Alone”, so I think that’s what they were going with. Agree to end the game together, everyone lives. Play the game until only one person is left standing, die alone. Yes, it’s pointless. Yes, it’s kinda stupid, but I think it’s what they were going with.

Hey, I remember that CSI board game! Namely, I remember it being scattered on the road while I did my job as a garbageman having to pick it all up.

We read a webcomic where a Dr. Laura parody was a fairly significant supporting cast member. After her getting canceled, she almost immediately disappeared from the comic, with little more than a parody of that moment as a send-off. … She was literally the mother of one of the main characters, to give some idea of how suddenly Laura fell off the face of the collective awareness.

The show is not a murder mystery at all, in all three seasons there has only been one plot line that involved murder and no one questions the circumstances of the character’s death; and 2. The show is focused on eight siblings so the likely hood that this game involves the murderer killing their relative is nonzero

I never knew the worst case scenario game was based on a book series! My family played it on long car trips when I was a kid. We would just ignore the whole board and dice rolling part, and instead we would just go through the multiple choice questions.

The worst tie-in games are the ones that just aren't fun to play. I can stomach an incomprehensible tie-in if the game is fun to play.

This makes me think about a game I once played about the First Hary Potter film/book. Because it was a trivial persuit style game it had some very general questions but since it was about only one (fairly thin children's) book it had some very detailed questions. Like at what position Vernon Dursley sat in regards to the window at his job or at what specific time he drove to work. The game had multiple choice options but it was better if you knew the answer before they told you the multiple choice options since you would get double the rewards.

You should review ICP's boardgames. Yes, I said gameS, plural. They have several. There's a tabletop RPG, Two Dice rolling games, a deck building game (with an expansion) and a cards against humanity rip off (with an expansion). ICP held their own gaming convention. Twice! I went in 2018 and it was fun until it was shut down because people were fighting.

9:41 I actually had ‘The Worst Case Scenario Survival Game Junior Edition’ as a kid… and while not worse than TWCSSG, it certainly was…different. See instead of have multiple choice cards, the junior version gave you a brief scenario (you fell down a steep hill) and you had to use a *specific* tool card to ‘solve’ that situation (you use a rope to pull yourself back up). If you got it right, you roll the die and move that many spaces. If you got it wrong, then nothing happens. Problem was, the player is never guaranteed to have the correct tool cards in their hand. In the above situation, if you don’t have a rope card, you are forced to play the ‘wrong’ tool card and lose your turn (no matter how creatively you use that wrong tool). For example, you are locked in a walk-in fridge and need to survive? Sure you could play the ‘Clothes’ tool card to stay warm, but you’ll be wrong! Instead you needed to play the ‘Water Bottle’ tool card because of dehydration… Too bad you didn’t even have a ‘Water Bottle’ card to begin with, so your entire turn was a waste! The only solace was that there was another type of card, the ‘which is worse’, which was the precursor to the most recent ‘Worst Case Survival Game’, but it was certainly less frustrating…

my grandparents had The Worst Case Survival Game at their house and i am perhaps one of the only souls on this earth who actually enjoyed the game. obviously nobody else wanted to play the game, so i would just open up the box and read and memorize all the cards. forgot them now but they were taking up far too much brainspace anyways.

My wife and I came across The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Game in a vacation house and we found the best use for it was to just read off the trivia cards at random times of day and have people guess the answers, because it always felt really absurd

9:14 I actually own a board game based explicitly on the Harry Potter Books! It's a trivia board game based on the first book and it's actually really fun. Each player starts by pulling colored beads out of a sorting hat which determines their House and therefore their game peice, and the you go around the board collecting charm, spell, and curse cards while answering trivia questions about the book. The amount if detail put into that thing is genuinely impressive.

I was in the London Maritime Museum a few years ago and they had a stack of Worst Case Scenario books in the gift shop. I thought: "Oh cool, a survival book to match the theme of the museum!" I picked it up, opened a random page and it was about identifying and escaping a murderous clown. "If the clown has murderous eyes, sharp teeth or a weapon on him, he might be murderous." Yeah no shit.

I have the Worst Case Scenario survival game. The issue is you’ve either read the book and know all the answers or you don’t and you lose.

A GOOD tie in game is the Home Improvement game, based on the 90's sitcom. Specifically because they rethemed an existing game, Handyman, instead of making their own product! It involves buying construction supplies & making money doing renovation jobs, which fits in with the show's theme really well! Then there's Home Alone 2, the THQ version! All U do is match sets of cards with the movie's characters! They could make the same game with ANY movie! It's just musical chairs, with a HA2 theme!

I've played the Worst Case Scenario game and there was a card about sprinkling flour around your car so you can see footprints if you think people are going to secretly tamper with it, like cutting your brake cables. I read one of the books and they're a degree of magnitude less weird than this, it's more about surviving a bear attack or having to kick open the door to a burning building

My family had that Worst-Case Scenario game. As kids, my siblings and I actually got to the point that we'd memorized the cards and couldn't play anymore since we'd all get the questions right from rote memory.

Mhmm, the Lost game sounds like it tried to have a combination of cooperation and backstabbing into one, and failed. Feels like to could learn a lot from Nemesis, which uses those two ideas aswell but does it fantasically.

When you mentioned book tie-in games, I hoped you'd bring up "Darkover: The Ages of Chaos." It's based on a deeply weird series of novels (whose author eventually turned out to have been a child predator). The game is basically Risk, but with bizarre changing resolution mechanics which include starting contests, dares, and trying to convince other players that they don't exist.

So now then, when are we getting the KamSandwich tie-in bord game ? I imagine a big bord game with a bunch of smaller mini game bord games to do as you move around.

I don't think it's a great version of Monopoly, but i think the way they implemented some of the mechanics of Fortnite into it was actually pretty cool.

I feel like one problematic tie-in is xcom: the board game. I'm sure it's fun, people say it is, however, it has two main problems. The first is that theres an app that handles some stuff needed for gameplay. So if your phone is dead or you forgot/cant download it, you can't play the game. The other is how incredibly complex it is. There is an entire tutorial mode on the app, and each player has paragraphs upon paragraphs of how their role works. It's ridiculously in-depth.
