In this episode, we check out the Epiphone “Greeny” 1959 Les Paul Standard. The story of “Greeny” is shrouded in mystery, but few guitars are as illustrious. Greeny is one of the most iconic original Les Paul™ Standards ever made, with a unique sound as recognizable as the guitar itself. Previously owned by Peter Green, it was used throughout his time with Fleetwood Mac and later sold to Gary Moore, who used it for three decades with Thin Lizzy and as a solo artist. Now owned by Kirk Hammett, Greeny has passed through the hands of three legendary guitarists. Its distinctive sound is partly from the out-of-phase middle switch position due to the neck pickup’s reversed magnetic polarity. The Epiphone Kirk Hammett "Greeny" Les Paul Standard is a collaboration between Epiphone and the Gibson Custom Shop. This exceptional guitar was inspired by Kirk's legendary original and allows players around the world the opportunity to experience some of the magic of "Greeny" for themselves. It features premium components, including Gibson USA Greenybucker pickups with the neck pickup reverse mounted and complete with a reverse polarity magnet, a Switchcraft® pickup selector and 1/4" output jack, CTS® potentiometers, Mallory™ capacitors, and Grover® Rotomatic® tuners with spade-style buttons on a Gibson-style “open book” headstock. A vintage-style brown and pink hardshell case is also included.

The coolest thing about that guitar (to me) is the fact Epiphone finally used that style headstock. If more models switched to that sales would go up.

The epiphone has Mallory caps ,cts pots ,greeny buckers 300 value…and a long neck tenon….the us model has a short neck tenon…..everything’s more expensive today…it’s a viable Les Paul for sure…ps that Tyler amp is nice

With normal humbuckers the middle position sounds great with neck volume rolled back.

I had a couple to many the other night and ordered one of these from ZZounds. When I woke in the morning it was already too late to cancel. I received the guitar yesterday with the intention of returning . I opened the box just for the hell of it and plugged into my Marshall and was blown away how cool that middle position sounds and the play ability right out of the box. I think I'll keep it. It is a a little over priced but it sounds and plays amazing.

Epiphone has really been doing a great job lately. It might be hard to wrap your head around the prices but they are not the same guitars they were in the past either.

The thing for me is that for considerably less you can get a japanese made tokai in the same colour and drop in peter green pickups and have a rosewood board and still have the full headstock with better build quality… all in youd still be a couple hundred short of the greeny. this is not worth the money it costs. the prices on these are silly for what you’re getting.

I’ve always wanted to try out a Tokai but have never seen them for sale in the states.

The new Epiphones are nice but they have quite a ways to go to be on the same level as a MiJ Tokai, imo.

@Coolbeans1492 5 месяцев назад
@@soundofwinter i agree entirely tbh. But i know they are trying to bring epi up to midrange price levels which means they have to jump in quality. Greeny is a good start but not for the price tbh. Instead for 1500 cad they should have a standard full open book headstock model with one piece bodies necks and 2 piece tops but also a rosewood board. I could care less if they come w usa pickups because the current epi ones are decent. They should also be doing that on the custom. Not a special edition model just the same models they currently make like the standard 50-60s and the custom. If done this way they would really sell a lot of guitars. And they said the open book headstock isn’t going to be exclusive on greeny but i dont want to wait until they release a more standard model. Like real mother of pearl is lost on laurel to me. Its not a bad finger board but its just not rosewood and the cheapest squiers come with this stuff. Id pay 15-1600 cad for an epi lp custom done that way no problem (even if they left standard electronics and added the mop on the ebony board). But this? Its only justified as a collector piece which you dont play because you dont want to harm the value. Lately a lot of that has been coming out of epi. Those lazarus guitars have shot up to silly values and these start at those prices.

I don't wish to be controversial, but are you sure "Greeny has passed through the hands of _three_ legendary guitarists"? Two, certainly, but I don't believe KH is a _legendary_ guitarist. OK, he's far more successful than me, so who am I to question whether he's a legend? But I am questioning it, anyway.

Fair question

Kirk is more successful than Green and Moore, not as good but certainly more successful hence the reason why he was able to afford the guitar.
@1man1guitarletsgo
@1man1guitarletsgo 5 месяцев назад
@@bradwebber3211 Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos could have bought the guitar. No amount of money would make them guitar legends. No, Hammett is just the keeper of this instrument until it goes to its next home.

Millions of people love Metallica, and all of them people, I'm sure would say Kirk is a legend. I would agree with the many millions.
@1man1guitarletsgo
@1man1guitarletsgo 5 месяцев назад
@@bradwebber3211 OK, _you_ consider KH to be a guitar legend, and that's fine: I respect your opinion. But I disagree with your assumption that millions of Metallica fans all share your opinion. As it happens, I quite like Metallica, but I also recognise that KH does not have the "guitar legend" status of Peter Green or Gary Moore, which was the point of my original comment.
