"Kristy is about sexual coercion/molestation and is based on a true story. When I was younger, I knew a girl that was abused. I don't know whether I am the first musician to write about this subject, because it is obviously very delicate and anything but easy to make a song about such a complex theme. I also think or hope that this song speaks to other victims and can help them to talk or come out about their problem." - Dexter
I can't imagine how bad he felt at school and growing up knowing someone had been sexually abused but not knowing what to do and the guilt he must have felt growing up. he has appologised for not saying anything. him and the girl didn't speak again after school.
Well, to be fair, he is out of tune most of the song. I remember watching this back in 2009 and noticed how he hardly reaches the right notes. He's talented in many ways, but being out of tune isn't talent.
I've been listening to this amazing rock band since 1999. They make part of my life so far. Dexter's voice is incredibly the same as that of the records studios. This unplugged version is truly great. Thanks for uploading it!
Wait ?! I'm completely flabbergasted ! I went to see my childhood again ! And what do my eyes see ?! Soooooooo less views ?! How is this possible ?!? This song is amazing and stuck with my for the past 10 years ?? It deserves more recognition !
We've all known a Kristie in some form or another and felt the guilt he is singing about... Kids know alot of things just don't know how to handle them... Here's to another 20+ yrs of offspring... Peace..
There's a moment in time And it's stuck in my mind Way back, when we were just kids 'Cause your eyes told the tale Of an act of betrayal I knew that somebody did Oh, waves of time Seem to wash away the scenes of our crimes For you this never ends Can you stay strong? Can you go on? Kristy, are you doing okay? A rose that won't bloom Winter's kept you Don't waste your whole life trying to get back what was taken away Though the marks on your dress Had been neatly repressed I knew that something was wrong And I should have spoke out And I'm so sorry now I didn't know 'cause we were so young Oh, clouds of time Seem to rain on innocence left behind It never goes away Can you stay strong? Can you go on? Kristy, are you doing okay? A rose that won't bloom Winter's kept you Don't waste your whole life trying to get back what was taken away Oh, clouds of time Seem to rain on innocence left behind It never goes away (It never goes away) It never goes away Can you stay strong? Can you go on? Kristy, are you doing okay? A rose that won't bloom Winter's kept you Don't waste your whole life trying to get back what was taken away Don't waste your whole life trying to get back what was taken away
This is the saddest song I've ever heard too. Sexual abuse should never happen to anyone especially a child. What goes on in a person's head. Parents love your children.
I hope the real Kristy is doing good and staying strong after all these years of abuse. Maybe one day she'll come out of the shadows and speak about it? Only time can tell.
first heard them in 7th grade after smash came out. still my favorite no matter if I care for the new stuff or not. I refuse to let anyone change the music if it's them. Growing up blows.
A mí tambien me encanta. Es una de mis bandas preferidas de punk rock. Me gusta mucho el punk, tanto el de los Pistols y el de los Ramones, como el actual. Hacía tiempo que no escuchaba esta canción. Quizá varios años. De hecho tengo el disco "Rise and fall, rage and grace". Bueno, en realidad tengo casi toda la discografía del grupo. A tí también te gusta mucho "The Offspring"? Tengo ganas de conocer gente a la que le guste este estilo de música, pues casi no conozco.
Tune it to half step down or if you don't want to, just use standard tuning and a capo on the 1st fret . I know how to play it but I don't know all the names of the chords sorry. Look up some tabs if you can read those
...SONG OF THE DAY!!! THE OFFSPRING - KRISTY, ARE YOU DOING OK?
um nt necessarily, it is much more convenient to mute the e and b strings using the lower part of ur index finger plus he does strum all the 6 strings, lifts the pick a bit wen reaching the bottom
takamine :] i have one dexter hollands acoustics are always well seem to be takamines he uses a takamine in the music video, there like the best make of acoustics in my view and im so glad to have one since dexter and noodles do :] woo
Actually, Dexters first wife is dead. He then married Kristine Luna and later divorced from her. I've not been able to locate the name of his deceased first wife only that she is the mother of his daughter Alexa. As far as I can tell, Kristine Luna is very much alive. You are correct though that this song was not about her in any way shape or form. It was a girl he went to school with when they were kids.
@LondonOpinon looking at it, there is already a tab for this (1st result when searching on ultimate-guitar) this version just doesn't have the capo on 1
Im a big fan of the offspring and im trying to play all there song at guitar ( im 15 y/o ) . But does someone know what is the chord of "G" ( I think ) hes playing at 21 sec
