Wow! That little court yard is looking good after weeding and pruning of the olive tree. Lovely area. Good idea to extend the water channel along the wall. Keep the fall to the side where you already have the outlet hole in the wall. The waterproofing paint you are using will do the trick. Door sealing done well. Farm is looking good...all the trees and vines heLthy and sprouting. So many projects...you are getting there! Good going.

Thank you! It was satisfying to see that area nice and clear :) It's difficult to see on the video, but that area falls to two sides, kind of split down the middle around the tree - one falls to the outlet I have, the other to the back corner on the granite block perimeter wall (where I had wanted the outlet originally) so I might just make two outlets. xx

Better to do it right before you have to start treating water problems...well done. The courtyard would be good with tiles so water can run off. Maybe even a gate at the end where the 2nd wall is would be good to go outside...if you need access to that area. You are doing a great job🙂
@GirlMeetsFarm
@GirlMeetsFarm 6 месяцев назад
Thanks Mel! I'm also starting to think about paving now - for the water, but also those weeds! haha A gate has also crossed my mind - but that is my border wall - and it borders my neighbour and a public camino (walking) road on the door side - but I might still put one in anyway :) Thank you! x

Love the progress you’ve done on the house. The olive tree has so much character, I love it. Just want to mention that I’ve seen other homesteaders relocate their olive trees. Putting it on the other side of your stone wall might give it more freedom to grow and still give shade you need to the court yard. Just a thought.

Hi and thank you! I do love that olive tree and would like to keep it there if I can. Unfortunately that wall marks my boundary so I can't really place it on the other side - but thank you for the suggestion :) I may just need to prune it more shapely annually instead! :)

Nice going with the little court yard and clearing that out, much needed pruning done as well. Although it's illegal to cut them down it is not illegal to relocate them, not an easy job but do-able :) Did you mention you where going to paint the doorframe as well? You could also make a french drain alongside the wall and connect it to the other drain underneath the doors. And is it really moldy that wall or just a bit green from the weed and what not? Is your wall on the inside moldy in that section? Have a great week Chris!!! Cheers Bert. 🙏🏻❤
@GirlMeetsFarm
@GirlMeetsFarm 6 месяцев назад
Hey Bert! yeah, as I was watching it back it's not quiet mold, it's really just stain from the grass and weeds (good catch!). Thankfully no mold on the interior walls, but I think I will pull back that earth by the wall and do the same as by the door and put a drain in, just in case. By doorframe I meant the cement around the door - not the door itself ;) Thanks!

Adding patio stones to your courtyard would be beautiful. I guess moving the olive tree would cost a small fortune 🤔

I’ve seen before that olive trees can be moved and transplanted well, thy are very resilient Could you move it too the other side of the wall to still give you shade? Then revisit whether the air con unit needs to be moved A pergola with climbing flowers would be beautiful . Will you shingle or pave the area?
@GirlMeetsFarm
@GirlMeetsFarm 6 месяцев назад
Hi Susan, Ooh, I actually love the idea of a pergola with climbing flowers! The idea was that I wanted grass on that side, but seeing just how many weeds grow here, I'm wondering if I should rather pave that area instead. Also, I think you have a point with that aircon unit as well - perhaps later on I could move that lower down if it won't be in the way. The olive tree - unfortunately that outer granite wall is my border so I can't move the tree beyond that. I'd prefer to keep it in the courtyard as a little feature - but may need to reconsider that down the line if I can't keep it pruned to a shape that works for the area. Thank you! x

With all the problems you've had with the builder, I hope that you gave them a negative review and that you told others not to use them as well. I like the idea of door from the other room leading out to your little patio but can not remember what that room was. If it was close to kitchen or dining area it would be nice for a table and chairs, herb garden, Pizza oven, entertainment area.. keep on keeping on 😊
@GirlMeetsFarm
@GirlMeetsFarm 6 месяцев назад
Thanks Kathleen! That little room will feature again when I finally get to the wall painting. I had envisioned it to be one of my dry storerooms (food pantry, clothes in storage bins, etc and also possibly function as a second bedroom when I need. But I am starting to toy with some other ideas as well ;) I love the idea of a little herb garden in that courtyard too! I can definitely see some flower/herb planter raised beds on that side too. :)
@kathleenschmidt7074

You could also dig out some of your soil to make level expectations around olive tree there you could have a raise area of bricks to cover roots and plant it with flowers etc. and have your pavers with ground cover underneath for weed free just a thought.

Eu colocaria ladrilhos nesse espaço, mas por baixo colocaria plástico, para que as ervas não aparecessem. Ficaria um espaço mais agradável e sempre limpo. Na oliveira cortaria todo esse tronco grosso do lado da casa. A oliveira cresceria no outro lado.

Hi Jacqui, although that makes the most sense - I love that little tree :) I think I may just need to prune it into a better shape and see how that goes!

Wow, you butchered that tree. There is a technic to prune a tree, you should ask your neighbors. Trees need leaves to breathe, to survive. That’s a massive tree and the amount of leftover leaves are possible not enough to get through the summer. It will be struggling for sure.

How does everything become so over grown and wild like that? Doesn’t that bother you?
@GirlMeetsFarm
@GirlMeetsFarm 6 месяцев назад
Hi Ruth, Oh, it bothers me! But I have to choose my battles I guess, and I don't really look out into that area as much as I see the other side where I walk daily. But now that I'm aware, it's another area that will receive attention more frequently. :)

I don’t want to be nasty, but there’s too much talk about what you’re going to do and to little action. I can’t imagine painting the house when you don’t have that tree taken care of the large branch heading towards the house needs to come off or you will always have it growing towards the house and your air conditioner. Get some help.

HI Arlene, Unfortunately that is just life - my videos are real-time so you journey with me as they happen and in the reality of my life - unlike other channels that can dedicate full-time to their reno, or are weeks ahead of their channel, or maybe have two people. The weather also influences a lot of the projects I want to do. I am one person and I do my best. As for "getting help" - finding good help in Portugal is very difficult - which is why most people end up doing a lot themselves. Thanks for your comment. :)
