Fun fact: Vinicius' name is inspired by Brazilian poet Vinicius de Moraes and Tom's name by Brazilian singer Tom Jobim. They were the creators of one of the most famous Brazilian songs: The Girl from Ipanema!!
I heard rumors that the Bosnian team used him as their own mascot when they were in the 2006 winter olympics, it's said that they did as somewhat of an honor to Italy where the winter olympics where held at the time since the Wolf is the country's national animal, tho that could still be just rumors
I would not be surprised if the phrynges will still become very popular after the end of the 2024 games. probably the same with the 2028 games in los angeles
@@FoxGalahArtStuff probably, but I don't really think Paris will still make the phrynges as popular as miraitowa and someity is in Tokyo. We will just have to wait and see I guess
I’m Brazilian and therefore biased towards Vinicius. My little brother also has a vinicius plush. Also why hasn’t this man gotten more attention this is a good video and the best tierlist I’ve ever seen.
@@marleyrios1573unfortunately meltan is technically either a Hawaiian (Alola in the anime) or Japanese (Kanto remake) pokemon unless you count melmetals gmax form being introduced in England
Cobi is my favorite of these mascots. He, along with Petra, just look so soft and adorable, and they don’t have any distracting details or background lore like the other mascots. Waldi, Phevos and Athena, the Vancouver Mascots, Vinicius and Tom, and the Uterus-looking Phryges are other favorites of mine as well. I also really like the mascot for the 1968 Winter games in Grenoble, Schuss. He has a really stupid, but silly and retro looking design you can’t forget: a ball with a face with one leg on some skis.
No shout out for the 2000 Paralympic mascot Lizzy? Who was so popular that she not only upstaged the Olympic trio AND Fatso, but she had a comeback as mascot for the Australian paralympic team in 2021, with brand new artwork done by a straight up furry artist AND IT SHOWS.
yeah, I might be biased for having a Vancouver 2010 DVD and playing flash games with the mascots so they're the first thing that comes to my mind when thinking Vancouver (the second is Canada), but on my personal tier list they're S tier (and the first korean tiger goes to B instead)
As a french guy, I absolutely hate the mascots we got for 2024, they look like something they shouldn't even represent. We were close to have "Toufeu" and "Touflamm" (literally "all-fire", and "all-flame") as mascots who were some cute looking chickens... But nah, they decided otherwise. Full-on disappointment.
So lil thing on the Snowlets of Nagano, their drawn like that cause children from Nagano schools designed them, no professionals. Therefore they look like a kid drawed them
Hey, I want to say that the 2026 olympics also have a mascot. Not, one, not two, but eight! They are Tina, a white stoat, Milo, a brown, amputeed stoat (as it was born without leg, both have a brothership, Tina is female) and six Flos, a flower-shaped snowflake sidekicks.
Where's the official merchandise of them? I don't think they have any yet for some reason. Update: There's now shirts of them so this comment is now irrelevant.
I personally liked Izzy. The animated version of him looked better than the in person version. And his name was a lot better than his original name: Whatisit. I like Sam the Eagle too. I’m hoping they’ll bring him back for 2028, and give him a companion for the Paralympics.
Bing dwen dwen is definitely cutest for me but I don't know why it has a very distinct style compared with others. It is primarily 3D while others are more of 2D cartoon style. It doesn't have many symbolisms and the design is quite conservative, in the sense that it looks just like a very common cute peluche design that would appeal to most of customers. If I want to buy a toy or peluche I would go for bing dwen dwen, but for being JO mascot, I prefer designs like les Phryges or Fuwa, they are more unique and cool representing cultural heritage in a wonderful way.
I live in Atlanta, I do personally agree with u that our mascot sucks, your right it has nothing to do with Atlanta what so ever. However there was a 30 minute special that aired on tv about Izzy, and it made me kinda change my mind about him, he is still not the best mascot in my opinion but I don’t exactly HATE it anymore. I guess when I saw him move in animation it made me change my mind about him. Here are my top 3 favorite mascots 1. Vucko 2. Snowletz 3. Sam
Having an art degree with a minor in Art History, if you were to tell me that Barcelona's Mascot was inspired by Cubism, I wouldn't believe it because Cubism was all about using flat shapes to make a 3D effect. I think the Mascot's design would have conveyed that message if it had actual shapes within the design. That's just me though. My fav are the recent Tokyo mascots because I got the anime reference and I love the patterns. But yeah huge anime bias lol. Let's hope LA and Milan don't drop the ball for their Olympic mascots for the 2028 Summer and 2026 Winter Olympics.
If you didn’t put Vucko in the top tier, I would have to question you. Vucko is the BEST mascot ever. I do, however, question not giving Magique an F!!! It’s bad. Very bad. (Also Powder, Copper, and Coal are pretty cute. They could be bumped up one level for that - especially since you gushed over Rio and PyeongChang - which aren’t bad, but certainly not that much better than Salt Lake’s.)
14:23 i personally put him in s tier also his design does remind me of one thing Japan loves to do Making cutesy creatures like hello kitty and animal crossing and much more Japan really loves making cute creatures so for me him and his girlfriend does represent a part of japan even tho it’s not Olympic ish
Me: NOOOO you can't just be angry at some snowshoe hare a coyote and a black bear all because Their Excessive Symbolism Dr. Dray: Of Course I Can, I have over 500 million power in rise of kingdoms
Also, I feel like if Salt Lake gets an NHL franchise, they could reuse copper since his favorite sports are ice hockey and curling. Just wait till you see him in a winter classic or stadium series
Miraitowa is the best and it deserves its own tier in my opinion! It makes the other Olympics mascots look boring by comparision! I mean, the little Legendary Pokemon-esque creature can teleport anywhere and is soooo cute! I want to hug Miraitowa in real life! We'd make such good friends! Why am I not sad over Miraitowa's departure after the games? Because it doesn't exist lol! Sure, some of it may be lost, Miraitowa has still returned multiple times after the games in the years 2022, 2023 and even 2024! 2024 is the year of the Paris Games, but Miraitowa still managed to appear multiple times before its fans. Although an article did imply it may be made inactive for real for a stupid reason but that's probably because it's too early in the past to see the truth! I think one of the main reasons Miraitowa still appears so often (along with Someity) after the Tokyo Games is because it's still popular today. This popularity got to the point where Miraitowa's designer made an unofficial fusion with it and Someity. There's also fanmade names, hashtags and even social media accounts still in use today! Miraitowa and Someity should go on to have their own multimedia franchise for the legacy of the Tokyo Games! I'd be playing the games, and watching the anime if it happens (which it will if we try hard enough).
I thought Wenlock was a good modern new millenia type design that made sense for the Olympics after the year 2000. Now, Wenlock was actually made as one of a set of characters they were said to be made from dropped bits of molten steel leftover from the construction of the Olympic stadium dome, which gave them a strong connection to the Olympic games venue, the story went on to say the construction worker who took those two dropped bits of leftover steel recycled them into the Wenlock dolls for his grandkids so there is the practice of taking leftover construction scrap/waste and recycling it into useful home goods, rather then letting it go to waste, you have family I think the Wenlock dolls had good strong valuable symbolism without overdoing it. Making the Wenlock dolls a strong contender for the A slot.
I wish sarajevo gets elected for the 2030 winter olympics and that they will keep vucko and the OG logo of winter olympicys just exept Sarajevo '84 they put Sarajevo '30
Unfortunately as Sarajevo Citizen that wont be possible due to Bosnia financial issue we dont have money for big organizations like Olympics, many places are abandoned. There is 0% chance its happening..
I was enjoying this list until we got to The Phryges. They are, in my opinion, the worst mascots, not just in Olympic history, but likely ever. They say it's a hat, but they look more like cIits 😂
thanks, just i think Vinicius is terrible ... horrible. and Misha and Cobi must to be in the first place. Just remember that Misha was just thw first one to crie and Cobi have a animate serie and was in everywhere in the olimpics venues. And the cuestion is... wy when the time goes by the mascots will be more terrible???
I really like your analysis, very similar to my opinion. I want to ask your opinion about my mascot I created for 2028. But I don’t know where I can reach out to you.
