Last night in a rehearsal in Brooklyn, NY the guitar player was gushing about Dionne Warwick singing the title song of the movie, "Alfie" and how our 24 year-old keyboard player-savant (who barely knew the Beatles) should learn it. I don't know much about film but I said, "Hold on, that was Cilla Black!" He disagreed and popped open RU-vid to prove it, and me right. I never actually saw the movie but I loved her performance of the song which was a fairly big hit on its own here in the States. Dionne later did a terrific version of the song too but Cilla sang it with such strength and authority that it remains my favorite. Same with Anyone Who Had a Heart, which I performed years ago in a bass/vocal duo with a Brit singer. Being in the States I never knew that Cilla had a long and successful career in British television because those shows were never broadcast here. I just considered her an amazing vocalist so this video was really interesting for me. Glad I watched it!
I just love Cilla. She makes you happy. I'm a Black Country "girl" and live people from Birmingham up! My dad was a Lancashire lad! Long Live Cilla. For me the 50's and 60's is indelible. R.I.P Cilla. Total joy! Today the Saturday night's are so forgettable. Xxx❤️👌🌈😘😀😍
Great memories! We was sitting in the front row. It was A FABULOUS evening! It was SUCH an honour to be there and see Cilla sing and perform! Cilla was SUCH a SPECIAL lady!
Such a legend , what a career , I loved her , and Paul's tribute that I just re watched brought tears to my eyes it is so heart felt and beautiful .. He did her proud with those touching and funny memories x x The world seems a lot duller without Cilla in it
It's very telling that every person who ever met her remarks on what a lovely, warm, friendly, down to earth person she was, both on and off stage, and how she never forgot her roots.
I'm just now discovering Cilla Black. Of course I've always heard of her and knew a few songs from the radio but that was about it. But I can now say that I love her.
I really loved Cilla. It was one of the few Brit shows I would watch on TV being an American Serviceman stationed in London in the late 1980's & early 90's. Best bloody time of my life . Tara Cilla!
That's amazing and thank you :) Yeah it was sometimes some of the shows incredibly cheesy but least they were decent thats all I say really :) Yeah was born in the very early 80s myself :)
You may really like this if you like this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kb86dydD7mw.html some really nice moments in that video I thought :) It's interesting looking back at that actually I thought :)
I loves cilla she was lovely. Great voice. So nice. & Paul o'grady loved her , & now he's gone, carnt believe it she will be with her , Barbara and dot cotton having a laugh . Bless them all of them. Xx
Tracey and Alison's performances underline how good Cilla's recordings are. The difference is, with Cilla, you feel like you've been through an emotional experience.
This is a beautiful work of art and an exceptional piece of history. There are extremely few people on the planet with Cilla's soul...thankfully I married one :)
I never cared much for her voice aside from liking a couple of her early recordings (I wasn't born until the 70s so I wasn't around in her heyday). Love love love her personality though.
@@k.wilkie3814 same here rather myself though in the very early 80s, I mean there's two sides to her dying wouldn't wish that kind of pain she realistically must have been in real physical pain from a form of arthritis thats not fair but then just part of me wishes she'd been around for a lot longer than just over 70 it's so unfair on that side too :) With another post in reality it may look like I hate her, far from it just see things in black and white though things can change so fair play to her about her being a Tory supporter bollocks do I hate her, as I said fair play to her :)
Well what I said being black and white there's no emotion to it and nor could I ever hate Cill ever she was a wonderful amazing looking lady and very much respect her, she probably was more apolitical after her supporting the Tories :) Watching (just bought he biopic) Cilla on Amazon and seriously loving it! Beautiful name is Priscilla I think is the correct spelling.
Cilla Black was an amazing lady, no airs and graces about her. I met her back in 1995 when I arranged a surprised meeting for my Mum to see her brother who she hadn't seen in 41 years, it was surprise surprise. Cilla just made you feel at total ease, she had a beautiful warmth about her, and made you feel like you had known her for years, like meeting an old friend. She was a genuine person, one who didnt let fame go to her head. Thank you Cilla for your music, your light and your love. RIP dear sweet lady ⚘
What a wonderful lady. I love her music, and had the pleasure to talk with her for almost a half an hour three and a half years ago. She was a complete sweetheart. No other celebrity could possibly have been as dear.
Oh how I enjoyed cilla ,and Paul it was wonderful an hour of memoryswith two very special people I remembered all the places Villa went back to so sad her bobby couldn't have been with her so sadly missed wish she could have stayed longer bless her she was the one and only thanks for a great show Paul lol from Liverpool xxxx
I can promise you Ringo, you haven't lost your accent, only the power of it. If I met you in the street and you said to me where do I come from, I would definitely say Liverpool.
A delightful, talented, down to earth and lovely woman.l remember seeing her in Harrods in 1970 when l was a kid.l think l pointed her out and rather loudly said 'that's Cilla Black',and she turned round and smiled.Shame she's gone.RIP Cilla. You were great❤👍!
What a fantastic lady! R.I.P. As non-British, never saw any of her programs, and it was a surprise to see this video. Such a comedienne, such a talent. And such a nice and warm person.
How lovely that CIlla was able to see just how well-loved she was, as many tributes are done after someone dies. This brought back lots of memories for this almost 50 year old English 'girl' living in the USA. Thanks so much for sharing :)
Speaking without any disrespect, whilst Cilla Black may not have had the looks of the stereotypical popstar or the voice of Dusty Springfield, that was the whole point - she was the girl next door. She had a glow about her and a charisma.....a true star!
Amazing what people considered "scary" in those days. We could go anywhere, any time, without worrying or our parents worrying. NOWADAYS it's SCARY! Great video!
Keep Surprise Surprising in your next life Cilla and go on that long awaited Blind Date with Bobby. Till we see you again, Tarra Chuk. You will be missed enormously. R.I.P. xoxo
Cilla’s Funeral was the same day as my uncles. Loved Cilla Black used to watch Blind Date when I was younger ♥️ & just seen Piers Morgan life stories.I think they should repeat Blind Date out of tribute very funny & lovely lady & have also seen the royal variety performance numerous time’s with Paul o Grady & Babs Windsor (Gypsy) Wow those legs are AMAZING.2 legends lost (Babs Windsor & Cilla Black)Rest In Peace Girls 🌹🌹
I was only talking to my 86 year old auntie last week about how we loved the telly when we had Blind Date, Bruce Forsyth, Terry Wogan and Paul on his chat shows. RIP to all of them, Doddy as well. So many happy memories, and they were happy days.
As someone just said cila never let fame go to her head . Get real she left Liverpool as soon as she found fame . But she only returns to talk about her childhood .
I've only just discovered this wonderful British talent (thru my love of Cliff Richard); such a beautiful voice and personality. I'm sorry I wasn't able to know and appreciate her when she was alive.
I enjoy the show so much with two great great pals Mr Paul O'Grady and the late great wonderful person fabulous singer and one of the greatest Entertainer The late great Miss Cilla Black . My wonderful sister -in - law was on holiday on the island that Cilla Black and Cliff Richard holiday homes are . My sister-in-Law was in the same Restaurant that Cilla Black and her wonderful close friends having meal with . It made her evening go with a bang . With manners she never went to ask Cilla for her Autograph as bad manner when Cilla is entertaining her close friends, . I had a wonderful time watching and Celebrating 50 years in the Entertainment RIP Mrs Cilla White
Paul OGrady really looked after Cilla in her later years and I think give her back some of the confidence she had lost after the loss of her husband god bless you Cilla you gave us all a "lorra lorra laughs"
